Using Tennessee Cigna Health Insurance for Addiction Treatment

Cigna Healthcare offers various high-quality healthcare plans covering multiple services, including addiction treatment.¹ You’ll have plenty of options for addiction services, like medical detox and outpatient programs, through rehabs that take Cigna.

Tennessee Cigna separates health plans into multiple tiers, or “metal plans”. Each provides a different level of coverage with variations in co-pays and deductibles.⁶ You’ll have a network of providers covered under your plan within each tier. Here are the different metal plans available through Cigna:

• Bronze health plan. With the Bronze plan, Cigna covers 60% of healthcare costs, and you cover 40%. This program is the most affordable.
• Silver health plan. The Silver plan is more expensive than the Bronze plan and covers 70% of healthcare costs through Cigna.
• Gold health plan. With the Gold plan, you receive 80% coverage for healthcare costs through Cigna.
• Platinum health plan. The Platinum plan is the most expensive but covers 90% of your healthcare costs.

Cigna covers inpatient rehab in Tennessee to some extent. Multiple types of care are available to meet your specific needs in treatment.⁷ Since addiction treatment differs for everyone, the types of services you need will vary depending on your specific situation. Many facilities accept Cigna for inpatient rehab, where you receive 24/7 attentive care while living in treatment.⁷

Cigna also covers Tennessee outpatient drug rehab to some level. Outpatient rehab provides similar services to inpatient treatment, but you can live at home.⁷ Outpatient programs can vary in intensity, from highly structured care to less rigid programs.⁷ Again, your level of coverage depends on your specific insurance plan. A co-occurring disorder happens when someone has an addiction and a mental illness like anxiety or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).⁷ Mental health professionals recommend treating both illnesses at once to promote the best outcomes.⁷ Here are some common types of therapy used in addiction and co-occurring disorder treatment:

• Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
• Contingency management (CM)
• Rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT)
• Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)
• Motivational interviewing (MI)
• Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)

• Addiction aftercare. Addiction specialists recommend ongoing care, like 12-Step programs, individual counseling, or sober living homes, after treatment.⁷

Most major insurance companies cover at least a portion of the cost of addiction treatment.⁸ You could receive coverage for rehab and other addiction services through the following:

• Aetna Insurance.
• Humana Insurance.
• Kaiser Permanente Insurance.
• Blue Cross Blue Shield.

You might still have additional fees even when paying for treatment with insurance. Thankfully, there are other ways to cover costs or pay for rehab if you don’t have insurance. You can still access the support you need by paying out of pocket. Many use cash, credit, loans, or grants to fund treatment.

Many states offer state-funded programs or free rehab. These programs have quality, affordable care at reduced prices based on your income.
