Using Virginia Cigna Health Insurance for Addiction Treatment

Cigna is an international health insurance company that provides health plans to millions of people.1 There are various types of Cigna Healthcare medical benefit plans that are offered across different markets, including in Virginia. What Is Cigna Health Insurance?

Cigna health insurance is a large international health insurance company that serves people across 30 countries.3 Collectively, more than 190 million members are covered by a Cigna health insurance plan.3 Cigna Healthcare provides medical and dental insurance plans, Medicare and employer-sponsored health plans, and other supplemental insurance plans.4 You can call the phone number on the back of your Cigna insurance card to learn more about your plan type and benefits.

Virginia Cigna Health Insurance Plans

There are four main types of health plans offered by Cigna through the Marketplace: bronze, silver, gold, and platinum.5 Depending on where you live and your situation, you may also be able to consider a catastrophic plan. The main difference between the health plan categories relate to how you and the health plan split medical costs.5,6

  • Bronze plans offer the lowest monthly premiums, but you will have to pay the most out-of-pocket for healthcare costs as these plans have the highest annual deductibles. Cigna pays for 60% of costs, on average, while you pay 40%.
  • Silver plans offer moderate monthly premiums and out-of-pocket healthcare costs. Cigna pays for 70% of costs, on average, while you pay 30%.
  • Gold plans offer high monthly premiums, but lower out-of-pocket healthcare costs. Annual deductibles are typically low, and the plan pays for 80% of costs.
  • Platinum plans are the most expensive in terms of monthly premiums but offer the highest level of coverage for healthcare costs as plans pay 90% of costs.

Does Cigna Cover Inpatient Rehab in Virginia?

Almost all U.S. health plans are required to cover mental health benefits in some capacity as they are considered an essential health benefit.5 This means that Cigna plans are mandated to cover inpatient rehab costs to some extent in Virginia. Your Cigna plan may cover some or all of the costs associated with inpatient rehab services.
