ABOUT ADCARE RHODE ISLAND - PORTSMOUTH
Clinical Services of Rhode Island of Portsmouth, recently consolidated into AdCare Rhode Island, offers outpatient-based treatment services for adults struggling with addiction, and it is among the 30 (62.5 percent) facilities in the state to offer specialized programming to treat co-occurring mental health conditions.
Part of American Addiction Centers' nationwide network of treatment facilities, AdCare Rhode Island of Portsmouth is one of the state's 20 (41.7 percent) facilities to offer an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and one of 15 (31.3 percent) to provide outpatient-based detox services. The facility also offers general outpatient programming and group therapy.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon intake, clients participate in an initial assessment and urine screening to assist clinicians in developing an individualized treatment program. The facility does not conduct physical examinations, psychiatric assessments, or blood work services.
During outpatient programs, clients are introduced to the philosophies and practices of the 12-step model of recovery and are expected to perform accompanying “step-work.” Utilizing evidence-based treatment modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), clinicians also facilitate counseling sessions in group, individual, and family settings.
In addition, clients participate in classroom discussions with others in recovery, helping clients to learn techniques for controlling impulses, avoiding triggers, and other relapse prevention strategies. Lasting three hours, IOP sessions are held in the morning and evening to accommodate client schedules.
Depending on the client’s needs, referrals for medication management and psychiatric care may be incorporated into care plans. AdCare Rhode Island also encourages family participation during the treatment process, and loved ones are invited to a monthly educational support group.
To support ongoing recovery, AdCare Rhode Island also hosts monthly “Meet and Greets” for alumni of any network facility and organizes quarterly alumni outings, such as sporting events, concerts, and dinners.
Supervised by clinical directors, AdCare Rhode Island's multidisciplinary treatment team consists of licensed therapists and counselors.

Accomodations & Amenities
We really appreciate you leaving your feedback. I am so pleased to hear that the flexibility of our program made the process easier for you. I'm sorry the counselor desk space seemed inadequate to you. A large desk can sometimes be a barrier to a positive exchange between counselor and client. We strive always to put the counselor in close proximity to the client in order to facilitate good communication. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us!
