Great
The staff and Technicians were extremely caring and sincere. The techs who I saw almost 24/7 became people I trusted and would call friends. The daily format in rehab was a great mixture of group classes/discussions, free time and activities . I am grateful for my experience and am still going strong in my sobriety. Also, my personal therapist was an amazingly understanding, intuitive and encouraging counselor.

UNETHICAL, SLOPPY, AND HARM CAUSING CARE. I had a loved one spend 5 tragic days in Sacramento location's detox. Mistake. It is of my opinion that when the medical director of a treatment facility is off site (because apparently they only communicate via skype), there is a lack of accountability and oversight which results in terrible care. You want some proof? Keep reading. 1. One ten minute skype session with a doctor throughout the entire stay with a poor connection, and no questions answered. 2. An unnecessary prescription for Seroquel - which is a very heavy antipsychotic that is not recommended for insomnia - and my family member did not even complain of sleep issues but apparently its protocol. When the staff was asked if it were safe to take in combination with the detox meds he was prescribed, he was told "I'm not sure exactly. You may have to wait an hour or so? But I am going to go ahead and give it to you anyway." Are you kidding? You, as a staff member in a medical treatment facility aren't sure if you are giving a patient a potentially harmful medication combination - and you do it anyway? 3. The medication combination in fact ended up affecting my family member in a negative way - he told staff this - and they SENT HIM HOME with 25 100 mg pills. 3. No discharge plan was made. No encouragement to stay for residential. No follow up. Nothing. They basically drop kicked someone with a heavy opiate habit to the curb with nothing to arm himself against the disease. Except the Seroquel. Good job, guys. 4. A staff member told my family member that it was ok to "just smoke weed". NO AWARENESS OR EDUCATION ON CROSS ADDICTION. Giving a newly detoxed person the green light to trade substances because "weed isn't as bad" is ridiculous and harm causing. 5. Due to an error on Akua's part - my family member was left to deal with incessant phone calls and emails putting their mistake on him to correct. Right out of detox. Causing him unnecessary stress and anxiety. No one called to check in, or followed up about their empty promises for IOP help or doctors appointment. No one cared about him at all. They only cared that they got this TOTALLY SHADY document signed. He was asked to text a photo of some unsigned paperwork to a cell phone, potentially violating his HIPPA and confidentiality rights. 6. If for some reason after reading all this you are still considering Akua, ask for a copy of the financial agreement up front. See if you can figure out why they are saying they charge almost $4000/day for detox and then grant scholarships. Because I couldn't, and no one could tell me why it said that or what it meant. All I was told was its "just a document". Um. No. Its not lost on me that the total just happened to be the same amount that your average 30 day stay in residential would cost a private pay client. So what are you doing, Akua? Changing numbers in your Kipu system to get people to sign off to pay for treatment they didn't receive? Akua is a clown show.

Akua made the beginning of my recovery journey a positive one. The staff are excellent and the programs and classes top notch. I couldn't of chosen a better place to get and stay sober

I spent two weeks at akua and was shocked at the low paid staff who had barely any sobriety. One woman was even homeless and had 60 days of sobriety. This is the same woman who drove the van to meetings at 70 miles an hour with the radio blasting. We were required to go to these meetings and be in this unsafe situation. After 2 weeks of unable to think straight I found out I was on the wrong medication from the start. The staff was upset at me because of this. After I demanded going off all meds they prescribed me I decided to leave because I felt unsafe. The staff put me out on the street with my luggage and a dead cell phone I had to use a neighbor's outside outlet to charge my cell phone and call a cab. The director laughed at me as she left to go to lunch. This place is dangerous. I wish that I had seen a review like this before I went there. This is a review of the women's program. The positive reviews are mostly from the men's program. Beware!

I am so glad that my higher power placed me in the presance of akua mind amd body. Before akua i had lost touch with who i was, not really knowing what tomorrow would bring. I was ashamed of who i was. Akua mind and body really helped me open up and heal. Akua is like a family to me. They have truely changed my life for the better. If you are going through akua. My suggestion to you is to open up and get as deep and uncomfortable as possible. Its not every day you get a golden opportunity to let your true colors shine :)

I am originally from Orange County & I Have Have been an addict for over 12 years. I know allot of alcoholics & addicts that have been in treatment before and most of there experiences shared from there mouth they have not had the best experience! BUT AKUA MIND & BODY Blows any other treatment center out of the WATER! I have recently graduated the detox, residential & iop program and I can\'t explain how pleased I am with this place. The therapist and clinical techs are the BEST! This place treats you like adults they will not work harder then you as a patient which changed everything for me! I worked my ass off and it all paid off! AKUA MIND & BODY IS NOT A LOCK DOWN TYPE OF TREATMENT CENTER! The teams allows you to have responsibilities. You as a patient can walk out of you want! It\'s about how bad you want to stay clean & sober! I AM PROUD TO BE APART OF THE AKUA FAMILY. The fellowship is unlike any other treatment center I have ever heard of! I RECOMMEND THIS SPOT TO ANY ALCOHOLIC OR ADDICT THATS WANTS TO BE SOBER! My name is James & I hope to meet any of the new comers that get the chance to experience Akua Mind & Body like I did! Again My name is James Ask About me..

My treatment at AKUA was outstanding. The residential program truly encompasses all aspects of the mind body and spirit, necessary for a successful recovery. Art and music therapy, mediation and yoga, individual and group therapy were all outstanding. All of the clinical staff and group therapists are knowledgeable, insightful and supportive in an overall calm and balanced environment.

My stay at the Akua treatment facilities was very positive and benificial. The detox house was very clean and organized, provided excellent food prepared by a chef, and the atmosphere helped me get through the initial phase of getting off alcohol and drugs. The residential facility far exceded my expectations. The clinical director was the nicest person I have ever met. The therapists and staff were excellent and compassionate. They were always there for me. The councelors that came in were truly amazing and helped me so much. They brought hope and confidence back in my life that I had lost. The IOP program gave me the guidance and encouragement to start a new life. I am forever grateful and highly recomend the highly effective program Akua provides.

Akua Mind and Body is unprofessional and clearly shows it has been in business for about a year. The company is plagued with staffing issues in the billing and insurance departments. Due to INTERNAL issues at Akua with insurance codes, they are holding $2,573 of mine for an undetermined time. My insurance has no claims from the company and Akua admits they are in the process of figuring out how to properly bill Blue Cross. The last thing someone needs to be concerned about in seeking out treatment for themselves or loved ones is if they are going to be stuck with a huge bill at the end due to incompetence from the company they sought treatment from.

Akua is a great program! The staff is amazing and truly cares about their clients and dealing not only with the substance issue, but the issues that caused the use. The facilities are very nice and homey and they have tons of fun activities to help you focus on recovering. The outpatient also really does set you up for success. Thanks Akua!

Don\'t lie and talk about herbal supplements, brains based personal diets, aqua therapy, massage therapy etc if you don\'t offer absolutely any of that .. Before going I was told they could accommodate Celiac\'s .. They failed miserably I kept my cool and tried figuring it out with them.but after losing 15lbs in 2 weeks I was done. I came in on suboxone. I had no desire to leave and get high in fact I would have absolutely loved it if they would have done what they said they were going to do.

Strengths: Strong therapeutic/clinical staff, Clinical staff focuses on the underlying issues that contribute to the clients' behavior rather than focusing on the behaviors alone, Akua has a high clinical staff to client ratio, Groups are on the smaller size which allows for individualized attention. Weaknesses: Operational flow - this facility is new (6 months old) and has been ironing out operational problems. However, clients feel like their concerns/complaints are heard and are being acted upon. Clients have left Akua saying, "I am sad to leave this place because it feels like I am having to say goodbye to my family." Akua creates a safe environment for clients to develop self-awareness and insight into their addiction as well as how they "show up/interact with others" in the world.

Clinical, Amenities, aftercare, and detox were strengths of the facility. However, it is new. Staff is like a family and hand picked from the doctor from therapists to drivers. We pride ourselves in being above reproach within the industry.

Strengths: The Staff - all master's level or above clinicians. The environment and homes...feels like the "W" hotel. Very fresh and clean The therapeutic approach based on psychodynamic theory. Weaknesses: Not facilities fault but insurance wouldn't let my loved on stay as long as he wanted. He could have stayed there for a year .. he loved it. One of the doctors is a national leader in addiction treatment.... My loved one trusts him and his team

Strengths: Clinical program is very strong. All therapists are masters level clinicians qualified to work from a variety of frameworks including individual, group, and family therapies. Weaknesses: Has room to grow in the area of easy access leisure activities. Akua treats staff and clients with the utmost respect. I have never been a part of an organization who regards people with such a high level of care and respect.

Therapists are excellent, client care is always put first. Groups are meaningful, informative, and focused on the underlying causes of the problem, rather than just the problem itself. With growth means a lot of change, but also positive change to ensure that client's needs are met. The people here are what make the program. Akua is like a strong, tight-knit family and all staff and clients are considered part of this community.

I have never experienced a company that invests in its team as much as AKUA invests in theirs. This is really very much a team of professional and compassionate individuals that care about each other and the clients they treat. Our facilities are warm and welcoming in the heart of Orange County and accessible to beaches, the best restaurants, the best shopping, hiking and biking trails, amusement parks, art galleries, movie theaters, and so much more. The company culture is very inspirational and supportive with friendly and fun team members. This place makes me excited and motivated to get up everyday and come to work for AKUA.
