I think all programs can be beneficial if the person seeking treatment is ready and willing to change. It is inpatient format which gives more group energy and change of environment benefits. My friend was court-ordered to attend. She also has no real desire to quit her addictions. Needs help with her denial and family issues. I have had experience with other programs more, but generally speaking, a client would need to be able to admit the problem has made their life unmanageable. They really have to want to change. Until then, sometimes self-medicating may be the only option they feel they have, and might prevent them from other ways of dealing with their problems (i.e. suicide, hurting others, etc.).
