Everything Sharla said was true. My child was there at the time. I personally took my child to this place & did not rent a car because I was told by their telephone person we would be provided car transportation to and from Discovery Pointe. We arrived at DFW at 11:30am, were transported 1 hour south, where they took 6 hours to in-process my child. No one discussed anything with me about how long most patients stay or what their process is. They just gave me 9 different telephone numbers. I did get the tour of the facility (house) that I had demanded from the telephone guy --but my child didn't.
Then I asked 6 times about who would be taking me back to the airport? Never got an answer but as , one of the owners, was leaving for the day, she said I should try to find someone soon or there would be no one available to take me to DFW. I was eventually dropped off in a very deserted part of the airport & had to find a bus to take me to the airplane departure area. Staff sat on the dirty floor in front of the door while going through my child's luggage for contraband, placing all the clean folded clothes on the floor, then shoving the clothes back in a messy pile. I was very uncomfortable leaving my child there but my child insisted they would be ok bacause they wanted to at least go through Detox. Upon my return home, I was still upset so I sent the owner a very long email stating all my concerns. I NEVER got an email or telephone response from her or anyone but I did get call from the director of admissions for Niznik Health Systems. He tried to waste my time telling me his story of how he was an addict--to which I said I was not interested.
During one of my child's few/rare calls, I was told that during Detox my child vomited in bed, no one came to clean it.
My child had no shower for first 2 days there because they had no towels & toothbrushes available & would not give access to the brush that was brought in the luggage.
These people are the most unprofessional, immoral & unethical people and are just in it for the money
At exactly 4 weeks, after our child's admittance, they called my husband to offer to pay for our child's ticket if they stay at least 45 days. When we refused, they denied all contact with our child for 10 days and told our child we were dysfunctional people & our child should
consider abandoning their familys, & go to their "sober-living homes" (only partial or no insurance coverage) in Calif.- they offer to pay for the airline ticket, with the intention of patients getting re-addicted & returning to this place in 6 mths,.
The patients promised 2-->15 min calls per day--my child went days with no phone calls, they gave us 9 phone numbers & never got an answer to calls, vm, texts & emails.
Doctor has no bedside manner--tells patients, "you're an addict, it doesn't matter if you're in pain." My child is lactose intolerant & they promised to buy "lactaid milk" but everytime they tried to buy food & supplies for the facility, their "corporate card" was maxed out. My list of things they did wrong is too long for this review but now that my child is home.
