Specialization

  • Residential Treatment
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.
  • Detox
Though not all rehab facilities offer “medical detoxification,” all people with an addiction to drugs or alcohol will experience intense physical and emotional changes and discomfort as their bodies react to withdrawal of the addictive substance. Many people use the term “detox” to refer to the period of time (ranging from a few days to a week) when the body is reacting to an addict’s decision to stop using.
  • Individualized Treatment
Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.
  • Holistic Therapy
Facilities that offer “holistic therapy” see and treat patients in the context of their entire lives and health status. They treat the “whole person,” not just the addiction.

ABOUT ELEVATE ADDICTION SERVICES

Located on 28 acres of mountainside in Watsonville, Calif., Elevate Addiction Services is one of California’s 471 private, for-profit residential drug and alcohol treatment facility for adults. The facility offers a holistic alternative to traditional 12-Step treatment, and most clients stay for an average of 90 days. Elevate Addiction Services operates at facilities that were formerly owned by a nonprofit company with ties to the Scientology-related Narconon program. Elevate is an entirely separate entity from Narconon and has no ties to Scientology.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Elevate Addiction’s treatment philosophy does not view addiction as a disease, but rather as a manifestation of deeper emotional, physical, and/or spiritual issues. The program is designed to address the underlying causes of addiction in order to address the addiction itself. The facility uses a holistic approach to treatment in order to address these causes.

The facility is one of California’s 335 facilities that offers a short-term detox program. After detox, clients must be willing to wean off any medication that the facility does not deem medically necessary, including anti-depressants.

The four-phase program offers individual counseling, daily educational groups, family therapy, and regular SMART Recovery meetings. Clients also participate in holistic and experiential therapies including yoga and hiking activities, as well as individually tailored fitness routines once they are physically ready.

Consultations with a nutritionist are also provided, and essential oils are used to help clients deal with stress and/or common aches and pains. Regular recreational outings include off-campus trips to the beach and forest.

A free aftercare program offers counseling and support to clients once they graduate. At the end of the residential program, clients work with case managers to develop an individualized aftercare program. Unlike the other phases of treatment, the aftercare program does not have a time limit. Clients have access to the program indefinitely.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Many of the facility’s staff members are in recovery themselves. All counselors are licensed and certified in accordance with multiple accreditations. The facility is a part of the 19% of U.S. facilities that are accredited by the Joint Commission, but it is also accredited by the California Department of Health Care Services and the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Offering scenic views of Monterey Bay and Big Sur, the tranquil, 150-bed ranch-style campus has forested walking trails, landscaped gardens, a sauna, a gym, and an outdoor swimming pool. The facility has a relaxed, ranch-style that is designed to help clients destress between treatments.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, 31 alumni provided feedback about Elevate to Rehabs.com, though 28 only gave feedback on the website and did not complete more extensive surveys. Most of the feedback is positive, though the negative feedback details some serious concerns.

Alumni praised the program, describing staff as “extremely caring and compassionate” and treatment as “a really cool holistic program with a lot of helpful life skills and emphasis on fitness and nutrition.” Alumni expressed gratitude for its holistic offerings: “They have art classes, music, exercise so you can really take advantage of things that appeal to you and keep you busy so you don't just sit and get inside your head all the time.” Alumni also provided positive feedback about the “friendships formed here.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The five loved ones polled by Rehabs.com gave Elevate mostly positive reviews, except for K.H., who reported that their sister had a terrible experience at the rehab, echoing alumni complaints regarding its lack of treatment for co-occurring disorders, despite assuring K.H. they would be addressed.

But the other four reviews reported that their family and friends had positive experiences. The loved ones gave positive feedback about the staff and the facility itself, such as Dan who wrote: “[The] facility is beautiful - on about 30 acres with an ocean view and there is a lot of space to move around…”

On Google, Elevate Addiction Services earned an average of 4.3 out of five stars from 29 reviews to date.[1] Alumni generally provided positive feedback on how the program focused on “emotions” and getting to “know myself/values.” Other alumni indicated that the staff “are all amazing, empathetic and compassionate.”

On YellowPages.com, the facility earned three five out of five star reviews.[3] Alumni provide compliments for the staff and the facility itself. As one alum wrote, “The enter is aesthetic, the rooms are comfortable, and the amenities are great.”

WHAT STAFF SAY

The two staff members who were surveyed by Rehabs.com about Elevate to date both gave the facility positive feedback and five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness. “I've worked with various addiction treatments for over 20 years now and this program encompasses the best of everything I've ever come across,” wrote W.T., while Dan told Rehabs.com: “Elevate is a modern and new approach to addiction treatment. It is a non-12-Step approach utilizing holistic and empowering therapies designed not only to stay sober, but to live the life one was meant to live.” The staff members did not fill out a more comprehensive survey.

FINANCING

Fees for treatment at Elevate Addiction start at $37,000 for 90 days. The facility also accepts numerous private insurance plans, including Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Cigna.

CONCLUSION

Elevate Addiction focuses on a range of therapy options that are arts-influenced. Music and art therapy sessions often lead to performances and exhibition work for clients and the facility promotes their work on social media channels. Clients can be seen on the facility’s social media pages participating in a variety of activities that they would not otherwise find themselves involved in, and with positive results.

This is an excellent facility that provided the services, counseling and support to my son that has made a significant difference in his life to be sober. They provide a very supportive environment for their clients to live a healthier life both physical and mental while rebuilding relationships with family and friends. They also work with their clients to build life skills that will help them going forward. The staff was also very supportive and provided regular updates to our family while my son was under going treatment. Truly a very caring and amazing place!

It’s been a long and difficult journey, but now our son is finally sober and on his way to start a new life thanks to the staff at Elevate. After years of substance abuse and unsuccessful attempts to treat his addiction using other forms of treatment, we reached out to Elevate for assistance. Theirs is a holistic approach: treating mind and body rather than using drugs to treat addiction. Along with good nutrition and exercise, they help the individual heal the past, emphasize the positives in one’s life to help reclaim their self-respect and confidence, all in an effort to empower the individual to return to living a healthy, drug-free life. The staff is professional, knowledgeable and experienced. The facility is clean and orderly and the programs well-structured. Staff members continually provided on-going support and compassion by keeping us appraised on our son’s status and well-being. We feel that Elevate saved our son’s life and we will be forever grateful. They have and always will be there for support and guidance. Thank you all at Elevate!

I was a client at this facility and agree 100% with the negative posts. They claim they have medically supervised Detox which isn't the case. The staff are all former clients who after going through the program were hired on as trainees. Amends is when they pull you out of the program to perform laborious chores, raking leaves, pulling weeds, cleaning the bathrooms, mopping floors, etc. When you don't work the program your completion of the program is then delayed. You progress in the program by doing coursework in "educational block" that's why it's not a 90 day program and they call it progress based. If you are educated then the coursework is easy and you'll finish the program quicker. Elevate has no housekeeping or janitorial staff - they require clients to clean their rooms everyday (wiping down your bathroom countertops, cleaning the mirror, vacuum everyday, make your bed everyday - making the bed every day isn't a big deal but they are nit picky and look for any tiny flaw to issue a CV - conduct violation. My roomate & I are very clean and orderly but were issued CV's because there was a couple of small tree leaves that had been tracked in & they said the room wasn't clean enough. The everyday chores are assigned & changed regularly. Your room is then inspected telling you if it's up to par. Then once a week is the building's deep clean. One gets CV's if they didn't do their daily chore "good enough". They have NO medical professionals 24/7, not even in their detox (which is a cabin and coed. Men share rooms with other males and women share a room with other females, however, the cabin is small and you share the bathrooms, kitchen and living space with both sexes. Any woman who has had past trauma - ie assault, abuse, etc from a man this is NOT the place for you! They have a hired doctor who is off site and they have one nurse who is there during the day and another contracted nurse practitioner. They have NO psychologists or psychiatrists. All staff, or "counselors" are clients who went through the program themselves and when they "graduated" the program, they were immediately hired on as trainees. When I was there, 4 people graduated the program then 2 days later returned as trainees! Elevate still operates as they did when named Narconon and just renamed some of the program terminology. I would NOT recommend this program to anyone.

This place truly is wonderful. When my parents came for graduation, they were blown away by the positivity and friendships that we formed here. I could tell it gave them energy and a fun afternoon. My favorite thing about this place is how all of the counselors have been through this program themselves. It made talking to them very easy because we could both relate to each other. The food was very good. The physical activity was really important to me. I ended up doing crossfit and getting in some of the best shape of my life during my stay. That helped give me a way to create endorphins and feel really good both physically and mentally. All in all, this place is amazing and I would recommend it for anyone that is struggling. Especially if the 12-step model didn't work for you. The holistic, science based approach they take really works.

Everything upon arrival at Elevate Addiction was great. I had a broken ankle and they made very specific accommodations for me and gave me and my family a tour. I got to ask a lot of questions and got a full understanding of what the program was like upon getting there and before signing anything. It was a really good intake process. Also, the staff throughout the entire program were very helpful and knowledgeable. Most of them were in recovery themselves so, they were definitely very relatable and what really helped to feel comfortable was that they had all done it themselves. It was an extremely positive environment and I feel like I’ve been in a really good place since graduating. It’s the longest period of time I’ve ever had clean and sober and I feel very confident about it. I also feel equipped to deal with anything that life brings me. It was an amazing experience and I would definitely suggest it for anyone who is seeking treatment.
