Philosophy

Your comfort, well being, and recovery is our top priority at GenPsych. Our experienced and highly credentialed clinical team prides itself on providing discrete, high-quality care in a relaxed, welcoming, and empowering environment. Alcohol and drugs take a hard toll on the body, mind, and lives of users – and their loved ones. So, too, can mental health disorders. Our Dual Diagnosis/Substance Abuse Programs simultaneously address challenges derived from chemical dependence and those associated with mental health disorders. Many who struggle with addictions and mental health woes feel powerless and trapped, with little hope of regaining control. However, our clients possess reservoirs of strength and resilience that they often do not know exist. These keys to sustained recovery and mental health quality are emphasized in our Substance Abuse Program. We use proven, evidence-based treatment methods to break the chains of addiction – and to reclaim one’s life and help them to remain substance free. At GenPsych, P.C, we also specialize in the treatment of opiate addiction. We are a licensed Suboxone provider and offer medically assisted detoxification to adults in our program.

I believe GenPsych is a great place to receive help for your mental health and get support from the staff. At my time here I have seen many success stories due to the way the therapists conduct group and how much they care about the clients.

Absolutely terrible. I was in the ambulatory detox program. The women and men’s homes were very nice, but the whole program was completely disorganized. The classes were terrible. The food was terrible. They order from the same pizza place for lunch and then the same three restaurants for take out for dinner. There is no nutrition while in detox. The staff all quit because of how terrible the program was. At GenPsych. If you want to get better then I suggest going somewhere else.

Spent 28 days here. Staff are VERY friendly and professional, and most importantly, they care. If I had to do this again; I wouldn’t do it anywhere else. The housing was very comfortable and clean. The groups were helpful to my recovery. I could not ask for a better experience. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone seeking this type of help.

I was out of medication and had an emergency that left my medication not a priority because I was there for so many others. I called the office this past Friday and left a message. I then called again Monday and left 2 detailed messages in two different voicemails. No call back. They were aware I had no medication left and could not get there during their hours. I called this morning and answered from the main office and said no doctors would talk to me because they are in meetings and won't answer, and refused to take a message. She said I need to be seen there's nothing else she can do. I stated I had an emergency. She just didn't care. The front desk receptionist was one that didn't call me back. But she did today. She said she couldn't leave a message for the doctor. He wasn't in. And she couldn't get anything called in. I HAVE to be seen. I asked to speak to the director and she said she was in multiple meetings and could not talk to me. Yet she gave me the therapist I've never seens information the last time I was seen and also both doctors. So what is different for a last name of a receptionist? I had work during the hours. I called out of work and went in and the doctor let me know he was there at 9:43am when I spoke to the front desk and that it should have been put through or a message should have been taken. I was VERY upset, and they tried to use my "no medication" as an excuse, but wouldn't you be? No call backs. Nothing. They treated me like I was a child, and spoke down to me, all but the amazing doctor I saw. And guess what? When I said I was reporting them, who shows up during their busy schedule? The director. She put me on hold and never picked back up. I called 7 times after. I know excessive but I wanted to prove that every single one of those times I called, she picked up and hung up. Does anyone think retraining someone who hangs up on mental health patients is appropriate? I think that is taken too lightly. People are mentally ill who come here and this can cause a death, it can cause so much. It worries me as I come from a family who suffers from mental health and how you treat your patients is important. I was very calm by then, not crying or upset anymore. When we left and were walking outside I asked how she can be a director and tolerate this. And looked at me and walked away. A director. These facilities are so important due to so much. Outbursts of all kinds are done by mentally ill because of mistreatment and ignorance. This is one of them and should be addressed immediately.

Horrible. Does not answer the phone. Cannot get a hold of anyone in ANY office, and I’ve been trying for three days. Tried getting ahold of someone to solve this issue. Can’t get ahold of anyone, so I guess I’ll have to do without my medicine until I’m home. This place should be shut down permanently.

This facility is horrible. Not one sentence in their “info” section is even true. They don’t even pay their electric bill, or any of the lunch places they use. THey just keep racking up 10k bills and then leaving the business and going to do business with another one. Use serious caution with this facility. They will also bill your insurance company for drugs tests they test themselves onsite. This whole agency needs to go. It’s corrupt and you need to be crazy to send yourself or a loved one there.

THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE LIVINGSTON, NJ LOCATION: At best you would be wasting your money, paying for very expensive babbysitting, and worst case, as in my case, they can put your child in total jeopardy. Totally incompetent staff. How they are able to have a license to do clinical work is beyond me. I highly advise any parent to find a different facility. I had to give the one star to post this review, otherwise undeserving of any stars.

Wowww was this the worst place I have evee been, and as an addiction that's been on maintenance drugs for over a decade I must say this place is just horrible and have attended 9 prior ones within 15 years. They obviously weren't the answer. First and foremost they are super disorganized. When giving a drug test, I was watched, yet no males were. Secondly, HELLO expensive and for what exactly?!?! 3 days worth of my medication and a basic nah, we can't help you.. After taking all my money. Although the woman on the phone assured me that they would help me. Oh and the kicker? I had an appointment scheduled, and they didn't even know it. I was supposed to be there an hour max yet spent 6..I trusted a certain individual there with certain information, and I don't talk much.. Personal information, promises were made and broken.. Snap like that. Not only do I NOT TRUST THEIR DR'S/STAFF PERIOD... Unfortunately, due to their severe dysfunction, lack of knowledge about 'buphenorphine', and watching the staff screw around as you sit there twiddling your thumbs for an hour.. I'm good. I would NEVER go back even if you paid me! I have sought out a return phone call at least 5 times when my medicine ran out and had a question.. Do you think they had the decency to call back? Nope.. And that happened... 4 times. Smh! I wish I had talked to some other adults in recovery like myself, because unbeknownst to me they had used this place and said it was horrible. When entering the building, I approached a patient and asked how he liked the facility. His response? Uhh.. Lemme say this much, I'm stuck here for now but it used to be a little better, but it's always 'sucked'.. May I suggest places that actually follow through with their promises.. Somerset Treatment Services(like 5 min away from gen tec), guiding light in Somerville, if a buphenorphine patient, Dr Mona Doshi, the Hackettstown facility that offers inpatient /outpatient services and they have far more knowledge than these people do. In the event you were looking put of state or inpatient, The Caron Foundation and Hazelton are awesome places... Counseling : Paul Mehaffey is great and the counselors at somerset treatment services are more educated. Any place recommended to me I had been to before and had unfortunate experiences. To the point of severe trauma, yet that's all they did for me! Charge over $300 to answer a question I could have answered myself off Google. They may be 'services', but more of clueless watered down yellow pages to me b/c they're simply not knowledgeable.. Period. They didn't even get my medication classification right. Really? Even dealers on the street know that and that's sad! May I end this lovely reviewal with this much, if I get billed for I will fight. Sure they got my check.. And IMMEDIATELY cashed it, but they will leave you with a feeling or 'your safe' and 'there's hope for you', until you go back for your second visit!shame on the clueless receptionists, shame on how cold their Dr was I saw (a female I was told was sweet lol, try cold and not easy to warm up to) generally when someone cries in your office and the tissues are by you, is it below you to hand a 'addict' a tissue! Shame on the nurses! They fought in front of me, undermined each other and really, really misplaced my trust!!! And shame on Dr. O for allowing all this! This facility was shut down, my guess.. Due to incompetence. It needs to be permanently closed. I felt like I walked out of the twilight zone. No help. No answers. All promises on phone broken in person. I wouldn't even give this place a 1. I'm sure they'll pull this review, but I can assure you that several more people will be making complaints due to the fact that I was unaware the went and could have prewarned me.

Horrible place. They promise the world but deliver nothing. They claim to be a medical/behavioral facility but the doctor never really sees the kids. My son was there for 6 weeks and he never saw him once. The nurse practitioner saw him for the first time in week 4 and they kicked him out in week 6. Due to a behavior issue which coincided with our insurance down grading and them getting paid less per day. The nurse practitioner diagnosed him with RO asbergers (this never gets ruled out because the doctor never sees him) OCD, ADHD, mood disorder, depression and ODD. All of which she prescribed powerful brain altering medicine for. Being she jammed them in in 2 weeks and never really observes him... Our son is only 10! We never received the group or family therapy and left worse then when we started. Turns out he has brain tumor.... Again, this great placed missed everything but they did get top dollar from our insurance for 6 weeks! Don't even bother, look towards Morristown or Philly for real help.

Not impressed with the facility. As the parent of a patient, I find this off office to be disorganized, messages are not passed on to staff and if they are phone calls are not returned even though I expressed I was calling to give information not ask for information. Placed on hold for long periods of time only to be transferred to a voicemail. Extremely frustrating calling for three days trying to get a hold of my son\'s psychiatrist and finally gave up. Empathy not really a strong point for this office. Perhaps the other facilities are better. In hindsight, my son should have gone somewhere else.

I currently attend genpsych for SA IOP in addition to completing their Halcyon (ambulatory detox program)-about 7 weeks of treatment thus far. Staff on both sides are great. Granted if you\'ve been through treatment you are hearing a lot of the same coping skills, however they offer DBT which has put a new spin and brought greater understanding and insight relating to my core issues and offer new solutions I haven\'t heard before (or the approach \"clicked\"). My personal therapist is beyond amazing. She always makes her way around (daily ) to say hi and ask how her case load is doing...that\'s in addition to also teaching/facilitating group therapies on top of \"one on one\'s\". I\'ve heard from other patients that they like their therapists, however you know you can\'t please everyone. I\'m clearly an advocate for Genpsych and I currently have 45 days sober/clean so somethings working.

GenPsych is absolutely horrible, it fails complete for what it\'s meant for and BEYOND, I was a former patient there only because my middle school forced me to years ago because I got bullied. It is a place that teaches you that YOU are WRONG for being YOU. They don\'t help the drug addicts there they only put more pressure on them... Almost every case for people to go there is only because they were caught smoking high school in school, they tell people who have anger management issues to count to 10 and to just take a cold shower. The therapists there just play mind games to make people think they are wrong and like to always create problems between patients and parents that don\'t even really exists.

GenPsych is no better than a dirty nursing home. Horrible!!! Run the other way, GenPsych is not a Behavior Center nor a proper Medical Center- as they may claim! This group of people will tell you about their doctors on staff, the daily therapist sessions, group programs and other mind blowing concepts in which you are probably hoping for to aid in your childs situation. What really happens is the group sessions are merely playtime and movies, the therapist is in charge but rarely in group with the kids and the doctor, is a nurse practitioner and the doctor is never to be seen or heard from. The doctors are not staff, they are 1099 and are overloaded and to busy. GenPsych lures desperate families in, proclaim your in “Crisis Mode” to get services rendered right away, make you excited but to only drag the child along just enough to make you think things are working then to do less than half of promised services. Problems such as ignored phone calls, failed correspondences, not following through with care and worse, leaving you in a harder situation like not being able to get into another doctor because the heavy anti-psych prescriptions you need them to refill you can’t nor can you get an appointment with the doctor; oh and good luck getting back or into another child psychologist’s office on urgent notice. This is an insurance scam, medical abuse and you need to leave GenPsych’s phone number in the garbage. Be very aware and leery of their program and as explained by our attorney, there is no recourse or fixes for this ridiculous service except to complain to a medical review board. In closing, our insurance has been exhausted, our son is now worse and we are waiting for the appointment with the old psychiatrist without his medication. It will happen to you too.

I did not get the care that I was promised. In fact, in 5 weeks we only gotten 2 phone calls from the doctor, even after multiple messages left for her, she even has missed an appointment call. We were promised weekly contact with a doctor or nurse to get a handle on medication. Intense therapy for our son on an individual level and group level and family counseling. We did not even received anything close to this. We are suppose to be working on Aspergers treatment and regulation of medicine. Now, because there is a \"concern\" that insurance will be ending in a week, they are telling me they are terming him. The message from a staff member was he does not listen and they feel for \"safety\" and they are considering terming him from the program that\'s supposed to help this behavior. If the program staff was doing their jobs, then they should be able to handle him. If your doctor ever saw our son... maybe he would be listening better. We enrolled him because we were in \"crisis mode\" and now we are not getting the help that was promised when we enrolled him. Every time I call, it takes a week to get a call back. In fact, I had a scheduled call that was suppose to take place on Tuesday and simply the doctor could not be bothered; even after I left 2 messages that day. Communication with your staff is far from accommodating and appropriate.

My child goes to the Brick GenPsych facility; I was scared at first to enter into such an intense program ( Partial Care for ED). My child\'s therapist is AMAZING!!! The Nutritionist is AMAZING!!! The other therapists are AMAZING! The program has been life changing for my child, I took a photo of my child yesterday ; one month into therapy at GenPsych, and I cried, it doesn\'t look like the same child who went in just on month ago; she has NEVER looked healthier, I\'m so grateful for this place and the outstanding and compassionate people who have such a commitment to all their patients; EXCELLENT place!!!! God Bless all my child\'\'s team members, THANK YOU!!!
