I WAS a licensed healthcare professional. The medical director at the time spent 5 minutes with the social worker on my third day there, then diagnosed me with "addiction" and told me I was "in denial". Then he informed me I would have to pay cash for up to 90 days as an inpatient there. B/C my insurance would not cover needless inpatient treatment for the admitting diagnosis of "mild substance abuse," I couldn't afford it. They notified my licensing board that I had "refused" admission and the board revoked my license. At my subsequent hearing, a doctor testified UNDER OATH that he had spent several hours discussing my case with the social worker, counselor and staff psychiatrist before coming up with this "diagnosis" and "treatment plan." It's truly a scam.

I went to Glenbeigh and this is the bottom line. They will only detox you. That is all that you should expect. The rest is up to you and how you choose to stay sober. Rehab is a misnomer because you will not leave there rehabilitated. You will be sober that's all. The staff are mediocre recovering addicts/alcoholics that treat everyone like delinquent teens (which comprise the majority of patients). The counselors do not spend one-on-one time with patients unless you complain to the director. Sex counselors and staff seemed more like patients than professionalsand as recovering addicts they look for approval and want to be liked by the patients or just the opposite has and there just assholes because hurt people hurt sometimes they enjoy it Siri a little bit of authority after spending likely most of their lives being abused. So much time is wasted and a lot of the material is boring PowerPoint or old handouts and the lessons are repeated a few times even within a few weeks. Most of the staff seem tired of repeating the same things over and over and the patients seemed to feel the same. It's a lot of busy work instead of clinical counseling or curriculum that would helps individuals with various substance abuse disorders. It felt like a place where parents could stick their kids where they would be relatively safe and sober for a month at a time. Although, patients do use on occasion at the facility and there is quite a bit of sexual activity. These males and females are not kept completely separate as the website would lead you to believe. The food is pretty good and c facilities are fairly clean much like a very cheap motel or hostel. The housing outside of the clinic is disgusting. I recommend having them show you where your loved one or yourself will be staying both downstairs and upstairs and also the facilities after 2 weeks because the place I was assigned looked like a flophouse with broken furniture from the thrift store. And it smelled like a well used litter box. I believe the facility should be conducive to healing. And overall it is not. Glenbeigh is a massive money-making operation that relies on return customers and gets plenty of them over and over and over. I believe they may have started out with rehabilitation in mind, but it is simply a facility to detox and put up with a lot of nonsense and deal with individuals you may never associated with in your life. Do not expect glenbeigh to rehabilitate you at all or that you leave there not wanting to drink or use again because you will. It is not a cure. It is simply a bandage and you must find a way to cure the wound yourself. Whether it's a 12-step group or something else you need a strong support system and the desire do not use again. Glenbeigh is not there for that reason even if they claim to be. My best advice is don't get involved with anyone musically or emotionally and stay away from anyone so it isn't serious about their sobriety. And unfortunately that is probably over half of z patience at any given time. Utilize the staff and utilize the director. Go to her office and sit down and point out anything that is not happening that should be as it is listed on your treatment plan or their website. Demand treatment that you deserve and you might get at least a bit of it. You are just another insurance check so them to cash and it seems to be the perfect money making luncher because they can't guarantee anything and if you leave there and relapse then you weren't trying hard enough regardless of what they did or didn't do for you. So if you're looking to spend a lot of money to detox are you want to hang out with a bunch of kids and goof off and get away from your problems and family to live in a bubble for about a month then Glenbeigh is for you. The reviews that say they save lives is a lot of BS. Just like AA it doesn't save your life you do if you choose not to drink and you get the support you need. You can't do it alone Glenbeigh definitely won't do it or you and in my opinion thank you very much at all to get you there other than keeping you from using I'm drinking while you are there. I wasn't able to check the Stars for a rating.if I were able to check them I would have put one star next to everything except meals and nutrition which would get three stars. The treatments definitely is 1 * and the accommodations are possibly 1/2 * that's an option.

I went to this place hard headed and that was was my own fault. i didn't give it a chance. for the most part.your not allowed to make a phone call for the first 48 hours while you are there. on the second day my counselor refused to release my phone and personal property they take from you when you check in. She told me i could walk out the door whenever i wanted to but couldnt give me my personal property. (I was not ordered there by any court or law enforcement). So when i wanted to leave on my terms i was told yes you can but you cant have your property. Well how I am supposed to call a friend to come pick me up if i cant use their phones and they wont give me my phone back. Dont trust this place for anything other than their medical staff. The medical staff was excellent. They might wake you up for vitals all through out the night but thats what they are suppose to do. Great medical staff. its was night and day. Medical staff was great. I only met two counselors. anyone that can get your property out of their storage leaves at 7 so your stuck if you need to leave after 7. Yes i know thats not the idea but you have to respect a noncriminal human being that needs to leave.then when i ask my counselor at 330 pm when she has the power to discharge me and release me and my property i was told i could walk out the door but she couldnt release my possessions. (meaning backpack with my computer and other work items along with with my phone. i wanted access to my phone and i was going to leave. i was denied that. why wasnt i allowed to leave with my property?) Nothing but run around answers. The medical staff is great and if you have alcohol problems request Brian as your counselor. Out of all the people non medical he seemed to get it.

Went to Glen Beigh in April. Had the most incredible counselor, was a wealth of knowledge. Offered me insight to my alcoholism and helped me with my life problems.. They offer meditation, art therapy, music therapy, lectures, lead meetings, group therapy, and individual therapy.GB offers a workout facility, steam room, excellent food, sand volleyball, fishing, a walking path. Thanks to all at Glen Beigh.

Pros: Very clean, plenty of nutritious meals and snacks. Husband seemed to enjoy the lectures. Cons: not enough time being counseled. Wife called counselors numerous times and always put into voice mail. Husband expressed interest in speaking to psychologist but counselor said he didn't need to. Absolutely no aftercare program when you get home. You feel like you are left to just fend for yourself. No follow-ups.

Remove this review or not it is the truth. It is correct as said on this forum in the past that Glenbeigh is not nearly the sanctuary it claims. I was a patient for 28 days and not one time did I get to speak to my counselor. First she was off work.... so I didn’t meet her just threw us in another group where we knew no one. There is absolutely no one on one help which is one of the most important things possible and promised by this facility. When my counselor did come back she in the 3 remaining weeks could not even get my name right. Even with her file on me. She told me how ungreatful I was to my fathers help (in front of our entire group) which I was beyind confused about considering he and I don’t speak. I started to cry happy that he had shown this and so said “oh! It’s not your father!” ..... my father never called. She just didn’t know I wasn’t a different patient. How can you help someone that you don’t even bother to remember their name? Also my friend who I met at Glenbeigh his counselor wasn’t even recovering from anything! My friend felt helpless with no ability to learn from his closest helper in rehab. The reviews are correct. The food is good. They are “nice” to you while you are there but there is no real helping on their part during or after the rehab. Once you are gone they refuse to help in any way. So it’s all surface lies. The only good thing they do is detox. At least after that I wasn’t on substances anymore. But after that there was no more good and hardly any effort put in by the employees who hated being there. Don’t fall for it. Save your money for a basic place. Glenbeigh is not worth the extras thousands of dollars for their “caring and helpful” fictitious claims. Best of luck to you all

The treatment seemed to be great for inpatient. Once in outpatient, the Glenbeigh facilities fall short. nice facility, healthy meals, keeps the patients busy, allows contact with family. Don't truly care about patients, do not try to maintain short term relationship after being discharged, does not have a good outpatient program.

Good
Good intentions, but.... 1) absolutely no flexibility of the schedule or recognition that older adults (50's+) may have slightly different needs, especially when it comes to detox and the need for rest after detox is completed. 2) Most days included an hour and a half or so of group counseling, and this counseling was about as personal as it got, so it was an important piece of the recovery program. Unfortunately, it seemed that quite often the counselors who led the groups were off, sick, on vacation or just not there. The group would be merged with ANOTHER unfamiliar group, which made for one huge uncomfortable group. Noone would be comfortable sharing and it was a huge waste of time. 3) You are assigned a counselor (your group leader) and you get ONE HOUR a week one on one with this person. IMO, The hour was generally not well utilized, and the last two sessions were devoted entirely to the counselor making me Dr, appts for when I would be released. Um... I'm perfectly capable of making my own Dr. appts. So between the merged groups already mentioned and the waste of your ONE HOUR of personal counselor time, there was about ZERO personal attention or therapy. Not, not, not OK. 3) There was very little down time each day, and a Dr's excuse was needed to skip a group or lecture. Seemed to be no understanding of the physical demands of detox and very early recovery, and the physical and mental changes the body is adjusting to. As mentioned, older adults especially needed time to rest and heal, and it definitely wasn't even acknowledged let alone given. 4) There were many required lectures and I think they could have picked more varied topics. I personally heard the same lecture on how the brain heals 3 times in my 24 days there. 5) We had a few kind of hokey team presentations, including one where we had to act out a difficult situation in one persons' families of origin. It felt very kindergarten-y, silly, and somewhat embarrassing, and I'm a pretty good sport. 6) There were so many young counselors with attitudes and on power trips and we could all have done with less of THAT. All in all--- they need to make a MUCH greater effort to develop some sort of a program for older adults.. If I saw one more adolescent / young adult being reprimanded for talking to a person of the opposite sex, I thought I would lose it. I roomed with two girls in their early 20's and I felt so alone and out of it. Then again, it may have been the lack of rest and physical recovery that made me so jumpy. I do think they have good intentions, but ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL and they don't appear to make much of an effort to judge each person's situation on it's own merits.

I can't believe insurance companies actually pay for this, It's an old nursing home where they hold a bunch of 1st step groups and collect $28000 A POP!!, no different than going to an AA meeting. Except they give you free food, a place to sleep, corn hole, volleyball, a gym, download lectures off the internet and they pretend to be experts in the field of addiction like every other rehab on the block. DON'T BELIEVE THE PUFFED -UP other comments on here. They were obviously written by Glenbeigh. Please actually talk to someone that has actually gone here.

Glenbeigh served my family and I well. Every place has deficiencies whether in cost or amenities, but the value of the facility lies in the providers and staff it employs. This is where Glenbeigh shines. There are of course bad apples in every batch. A few individuals in "the back to work assessment" area were found to be at a minimum unhappy in their interactions with patients. This is a small aspect. The bottom line is that the evaluation of a facility in terms of treatment effectiveness by an alumni is truly subjectively based upon their willingness to accept treatment. I found it to the place I needed to be. Id refer, and have referred.

Glenbeigh was one of the worst places that I spent my time in. I am a professional with the highest degree in my field and I know how to treat people. The support staff, nurses, and even the custodial staff were very, very nice but the main problem was my counselor. I have been in counseling before but this gentleman knew next to nothing about counseling and even worse how to treat people as human beings. He was condescending and arrogant. Not to mention that he mumbled or talked very fast and cut people off when they were trying to speak and pour their hearts out. The Friday individual meetings with him were a waste and even my wife at the time when speaking to him reported that he was extremely rude. The homework assignments I diligently completed as I am in the field of education were seldom collected and at best cursorily discussed. What a sham of the person. I also mentioned that to his supervisor about this and do not know what came off of that. Also, I do not think Glenbeigh is really that interested in recovering people as it is in stuffing heir pockets. I say that because many people were let go as their insurance would not cover the treatment and seemed like these people would be unable to pay for their treatment and for the rest if the insurance coverage was great then these individuals would be kept behind longer. Towards the supposed end of my treatment, I did not even know when I was being discharged what the formalities were as mu counselor just blew me off. I have horrible memories and had the most excruciating time of my life at Glenbeigh and I wish that most inmates (I know should say patients) but inmates is a better term for that facility would do their best to stay sober and stay out of that facility.

I stayed 8 days at Glenbeigh dually addicted to alcohol and benzo's and couldn't wait to leave the facility. I HIGHLY recommend you make sure your counselor is an alcoholic or drug addict. That goes much further in your recovery. Also, your real recovery will be in AA with a good sponsor taking you through the big book, the steps and meetings.

I went here in 2013 when I had medical mutual as my insurance and they helped me a lot. Well I lost my insurance and now I'm 100$ medicaid. I needed treatment again. Guess who doesn't accept medicaid? Glenbeigh. If they really cared about saving lives, whatever insurance I have shouldn't matter. I ended up going to another facility. They're a great place to help you, if you have the right insurance or a lot of $$. P.S. Glenbeigh, accept Medicaid!

Glenbeigh was great, the counselors, the staff, and the nursing. They all rightly deserve an A+. However, as an alcoholic, I admit that many times I felt a fish out of water because the vast majority of patients were opoid abusers. No doubt, alcoholics and opoid abusers alike, we are all serious addicts facing serious tragedy, but there was definitely a disconnect in feeling a commonality with the others.

If you are an opiate/ heroin addict please do not go to this facility! The detox is terrible and they leave you sick in your room, it was the most terrible rehab facility I have been to. Yes, it was clean n they talked about a year gym an other things but who\'s getting out of bed detoxing to even utilize those things. I never ate the 3 days I stayed, you are required to go to the cafeteria even while detoxing, I was so dehydrated, it was a nightmare. They sounded so amazing when I called and it was a dream to good to be true! Please ask what and how many mg they detox you with when calling rehabs, find out if it\'s suboxone, subutex, methadone and how much they give you!

This facility saved my life. I had gone to another rehab center before but never was I treated as well as this one. The knowledge of the doctors, nurses and staff , who were almost all recovered alcoholics, were outstanding. I did relapse but only because I did not stay in treatment long enough due to insurance requirements. When I did go back to Glenbeigh for the recommended days of treatment, I fully recovered. Today, I celebrate twenty months of sobriety. I owe it all to this rehab and follow up services they provide. It is where I would only send my loved ones if they needed the help. It is your answer and many others answer to their prayers for having a new and meaningful life again.

Horrible place. I was sent there for opiate addiction... All in all it was unorganized, unfriendly, and lacked any kind of focus or plan. Kids and old men just wandered the halls all day and if a guy and girl tried talking to each other, they would be condescendingly scolded and treated like children. Most people were there for their third, fourth, fifth or even more consecutive times. What a sham. A waste of money and an embarrassment of a recovery facility. Folks, expensive rehabs won\'t do one single thing unless you want to get sober. If you want it, all you need is your will, some good support, and some good AA meetings. Glenbeigh is trash. The food was good but only the stuff that wasn\'t cooked there.

They have many trained counselors; it is a great facility with a comprehensive program. However, there is not enough counseling for family members, too much mixing of young and old, and the food is too carb-heavy. The facility has many great counselors but only a handful have a notable success rate. I do not think enough time is spent educating and preparing family members for the next steps, the young and old are inter-mixed and it's awkward.

Some of the people that work there seem to not care a lot about what the patients are saying. A positive aspect were all the options you receive.

This facility offers a very therapeutic setting. Working to meet the goals of each individual client. The majority of the staff is very professional and seems genuinely concerned about the treatment of their patients. It offers good meals and recreational actives. Plus strong lectures by recovering addicts/alcoholics. Glenbeigh provided a great educational awareness about the disease concept. I have been to 12 treatment centers across the county and even though this one is not perfect. I think it was the best and I would recommend it to a loved one. There is not individual counseling its all done by groups. The counselor meets with you individual very briefly to check your progress. However, there is a lack of individual attention.

It didn't work for my ex husband and they didn't do any kind of follow up. They do have great family and friends treatment though/

They encourage family to partake in being informed and have the most educated counselors, that are mostly recovering addicts themselves! Not only a 30 day in patient stay, they also offer 3 quarter way housing for men and women, and halfway housing! Affordable for those who can't go home right away. However, expensive for those with no insurance who don't meet scholarship queries!

I tried and was unable to get sober without treatment. The time I spent there set the foundation for me in a 12 Step program and I've been sober since Sept 17, 2011. Most staff are in recovery themselves. However, it was very expensive.

This facility took a family member of mine when others would not accept him. They also accepted his insurance. I felt the staff was professional but also very caring and empathetic. They offer a variety of services both for the patient and the families. They seem to accept anyone no matter what point they are in their disease. Like any facility, they cannot stop the person's addiction, only the person can. This facility had some follow up treatments, at least they did during my encounter with my loved one.

They were caring and well-intentioned. However, it was costly and there was a high failure rate. They could have benefited from better follow-up after release.

I had one of the best experiences of my life at Glenbeigh. It truly is one of the best in the country. It's costly, but well worth it. They give you all you need to feel better, learn, and recover. If anyone were to ask me where to go for treatment, without a doubt I would say Glenbeigh.

Ridiculous excuse for a staff. The staff was rude and refused to investigate the situation of our family member being treated wrongfully further. The bullies were never reprimanded. Do not go here unless you want to get treated like badly! I would never recommend this to anyone!

Glenbeigh is definitely a patient focused rehab facility. They are very organized and most of their staff are highly skilled and trained. They were very sensitive to my situation and addressed my problems accordingly. They developed care plans for me as well as written materials and IOP information. My insurance would only cover a portion of my stay once I was discharged from the detox unit so I was offered a grant to pay for the portion leftover after insurance. I used to work in healthcare and knew that they were a top-rated facility that would be able to meet my needs.

I am grateful to the facility for making the 12-step program available to my family member by a source that wasn't too close to the problem to assist with it. I have seen a major difference in him. Allowed for family visits and therapy on weekends.
