Meet The Staff

Mike Lazar
BHT Supervisor

When Mike was 13 years old he found himself experimenting with marijuana and alcohol with friends. Soon after he began taking pills and eventually harder drugs to deal with life. Mike got sober for the first time when I was 18. He left Philadelphia, his hometown, and travelled to Los Angeles and was taken under the wing of a staff member at the sober living where he lived. Mike says, “I’ll never forget what that person did for me and ever since I have set out to do the same for someone else who was as scared and hopeless as I was. I love recovery and if it weren’t for the staff of a few facilities I don’t think I could have learned how to be a person in recovery.” “Damn right I like the life I live, cause I went from negative to positive and it’s all good” -Notorious B.I.G.

I was greatful to have the opportunity to to go to ICFR . It gave me an opportunity to slow down the war zone in my head and focus on what I needed to get and stay healthy. I was given the opportunity and support to get that done.

The Director lied constantly to my family and withheld information. The therapists was more concern with trying to get me to leave my husband than my addiction. The techs told me they were ordered by the Director to not give me information about my husband being in an accident. They were also ordered to not give my husband any information about me even though I signed a Consent form on the day I got there. The meals were Pizza and Mc Alister's brought in and dinners were made by the Clients with food they buy themselves at Kroger. A staff member promised to call my husband and never did. We went to at least 1 AA meeting a day and had group meetings 7 days a week. Some were ok and some were crappy. Overall the best part was getting out of there.

MY wife is currently at this center. She called multiple places to get help while I was at work and this place scammed her into letting them come take her out of our home while fully drunk promising that it would only cost $300 with our insurance. Turns out our part will be $2000 for the first month 28 days and $2000 for the second phase 4 months. The person who scammed us never said a word about the second phase until they had her in and locked away from our family. I was told that I would have full access to what's happening to her but now he and the director refuse to give me any info. Every time I call the clinic a person answers who says they are only a tech and can't answer anything and it just becomes a runs around to get anyone to contact me back. I have been told by my wife that she signed a disclosure from to release info to me but when I ask about it they refuse to provide one and refuse to tell me anything about her. When I first saw her and the first 2 times I spoke with her on the phone she was like a zombie. She had no emotional response and just kept repeating that the people there are amazing and wonderful and that she wants to stay there a long time. They now continue to bounce me between their tech center in Bloomington and their actual headquarters in Florida telling me I need to call different numbers to get any info but all refuse to tell me anything. When I spoke with the director and questioned what was happening to my wife I was told that if I question anything about them during phone calls with them my wife or during our visits that it would be stopped immediately. Our children feel that they have lost their mom and believe she will not return home to them. They prey on someone at their lowest and lie telling them what they want to hear to get them there so they can lock them away from loved ones and milk the insurance. I have had to get the Bloomington police involved just to speak with my wife. For the first week the director gave me a fake number and didn't give me her actual number until the police contacted her to force her to contact me. My wife tells me her therapist has sent me emails about her treatment yet I have received nothing from them. Heck I have not gotten one single contact from them in any way that wasn't pushed by someone like the police. And if you dont agree with what they are doing they use it to turn your loved one against their family. The pain and hurt we all have is horrible and the center doesn't care in the least they only want to keep her longer so they can bill the insurance. I fear for her health when the insurance runs out. The phone calls we have had are on speaker only and monitored and I can hear someone in the room telling her what to say to try to keep me at bay. She doesn't say she loves us or wants to come home unless they first tell her to say it. I don't know what they have her on to zone her out and turn her away from her family but its horrible. She has always been a loving and emotional woman who loves to hug and show affection. I had no idea the day they took my wife from our home that I would have lost my wife and mother of my children but that's exactly what has happened. We are not allowed to talk alone in person or on the phone and in person they sit feet away from us and monitor everything said to use against us. If you question anything they call you a control freak and stop the visit or call. When I ask my wife about her treatment all she wants to talk about is they going to the gym or doing their nails or hair. She says she has therapy meetings but makes it like she is not allowed to talk about them with me. They claim to have meals prepared my someone for them but when I have been there it has been pizza from a local place. No one in our home drinks or uses any kind of drugs yet they act like we are the enemy. Literally the first time they spoke to me at the clinic they made it a point to say they aren't a cult. Why would someone say something like that? I pray no one else ever goes thru the pain and hurt they have caused our family. PLEASE research centers carefully!!! My wife sadly didn't and in a drunken state went to the first one that could get to her. I can only hope that at some point my wife comes out of the fog of whatever they are using to control her and remembers she has a family that loves her very much and that she comes back to us. I am so sorry I didn't leave work to come home and stop this nightmare from happening and help her find a good caring honest and loving rehab clinic. I love you Brandy a pray you one day return to us.

They lied on their website about different things they offered. They claimed living quarters were similar to luxury hotel, when it was just a crappy old apartment complex that was nasty and felt gross no matter how much you cleaned. They didn't have art therapy, equine therapy, yoga, any of the other things they said. the "chef" was just catered lunch every day and we shopped for food to cook our own breakfast and dinner. They had like 35 people in the program, and we all were crammed into a little room all day and people were always just messing around all the time. I didn't even see my therapist till friday, and then she spent half the session talking about herself, and the other asking me some basic questions for an assessment she had to fill out for their database. When I came back to her office to ask to call my parents she said we'd do it after group. After group i was the only one left in the room, obviously waiting. She walked right past me to her office and closed the door. I went and knocked and she was like "oh i'm busy i'll come find you after I'm done with this." Nope. I waited and waited. I had the behavior tech's text her and ask for permission to let me call. No response. so finally, around 8 o clock, I decided to take things into my own hands. I ended up having to leave and walk through bloomington in the dark with no phone or way to protect myself to the local hospital to use their phone to ask them to come get me. This place just wants your money

The Indiana Center for Recovery treated my family member with dignity and respect. They continually offered extended help and walked us through the treatment progression. Addiction is a lifelong recovery process and I am glad the staff at this facility take a interest in their clients. Their caring and continued treatment of my loved one is the one of the main reasons that our family member continues on the road to recovery. I really recommend this center for those searching for sobriety.

Started out great our daughter excelled with leaps and bounds, but once she reached 90 days it was a kick her to the curb whether she was ready or not. Owner decided she needed to go, there was a waiting list and he wanted the Ins $ over the care of our daughter, plus 7 others! $$$$$ its all about the $$$$ If they relapse he gets more $$$$$$ sick just sick!

This place is a joke, it started out great for our daughter and she has done really well, however now she has been kicked to the curb and forced to move out of the facility's property because they were told they have new people that want in and their Insurance will pay more. They say its not about the money but it is totally is about the $. They make them sign a lease, however do not abide by any of the lease's details or requirements. Made several people move out in less then 24 hrs! Watch out this place is a wolf in sheep's clothing! It was the owner that forced them out, the staff had nothing to say about it! SAD and sick to prey on those that struggle!

I was told "the people at ICFR are the best at what they do " - they are. I was surrounded by welcoming staff who were were obviously committed to my goal of recovery,, and were always supportive during my 31 day stay. Staff/Techs/Therapists/Owner: Dedicated to the clients' well-being, but firmly committed to their recovery, understanding to my situation and always available to listen and discuss concerns or questions. Fellow attendees: Lifelong new friends, solid support system and resource for ever evolving concepts and concerns consistent for all of us. The facilities were adequate, particularly for cooking nutritious meals after a trip to the grocery as a group. Lunches catered with observance of dietary restrictions. Daily time spent in numerous group meetings, including addressing issues that were gender specific, family and parenting concerns, dealing with emotions, trauma, dual and cross diagnoses, but also involvement in daily AA/NA/12 step on-site and off-site. Bonding also continued with community service ventures, cinema and off-site adventure outings of various types, as well as our assignment to a dedicated therapist. Overall, this life changing stay has provided e with the educational tools, support and motivation required for my long term recovery that I am so dedicated and prepared to sustain.. Thanks to all at ICFR!

I found my stay at the Indiana Center For Recovery to be very beneficial. I had been through treatment programs before but theirs was a different approach. They stress a 12 step program for recovery. One thing that stuck in my head was that I needed to ….. "Trust God, Clean House, and Help Others". Since leaving the Indiana Center For Recovery I have reconnected with my "Higher Power" (which I call God). I have completed all 12 steps (with a sponsor) and I have carried the message to other alcoholics. The staff was very helpful and caring in getting my emotional sobriety in check. I would recommend anyone to go to this center that is willing to WORK a program of recovery. Sixteen months later I am still "Happy, Joyous and Free".
