I don't know how I feel about these places in general, personally for my sister no treatment facilities have been able to help her because she was not ready to make that step. Hopefully with her time in prison she will get clean. I think that classes that are offered could potentially be very beneficial. But as I said before the pt has to be ready to make that jump. not strict enough.

My husband\'s drinking was destroying him, our marriage, and family. We live in Florida, but his parents lived in Washington. We planned an intervention and he was admitted to Milam Recovery in Kirkland. He is 10 years sober this month. First of all this is not a resort or spa. This is a rehab facility people. They are not there to kiss your behind, but to save it. The counselors, are not \"mean\" they are direct and firm. Alcoholics and addicts need structure, discipline, and someone to get real with them. They are not going to baby you. If you are there it\'s because you need to be there. No, the food isn\'t the best, but again your not there for the food. The family group sessions were I felt very helpful. I recommend you take them. No, your not allowed to have electronics, because your there to get well, not update your Twitter, and Facebook account. This is a distraction from your treatment. No, there is no sugar or caffeine. The lack of these help your body detox. Yes, they will search your bags when you go in. Almost half of the people my husband was with tried to smuggle drugs or alcohol in. Imagine that, addicts smuggling contraband in. This is for your own good. Yes, you have to attend AA meetings daily. to reinforce your treatment/counseling. Yes, you are asked to attend after care meetings. Again, these are to help you, when your out on your own. In my opinion most to the negative reviews are people whining because staff are mean, they had to follow the rules, the food was not 5 star quality, their beds were not comfy, People get real. I\'ll admit the place could use an update, it is a little dated and dark, (at least when he was there) however your there for treatment for addiction. My husband has kept in touch with several of the people he was in with most of them are still sober or clean. So I think that is what speaks volumes, in my opinion. From my own personal experience Milam saved his life and that was all I cared about.

This place is a joke. The staff had no communication. The staff was rude. The billing department told me a price up front for the full stay that had to be paid in full upfront. After mty child was there nine days. They asked her if she was ready to go home. I did not get any money back from her only being there 9 days of the 29 day. They billed my insurance the same they billed myself. The staff seemed over worked with not enough help. One staff member contiuned to yell at me one the phone because I asked him a question he did not have the answer to. He could have said Im not sure and transfered me to his boss. I would never recommend this place. If you are from out of state do not go here. I was told it was all female facility but there is a hallway that keeps the men and the women apart.

Excellent
My counselor read me like a book. I would say, the counselors are the strength. I really can't think of any weakness, it worked for me!! I was a patient back in 2004. I put myself into Lakeside. I had excellent family support, as well as great support from my counselor. I have recommended Lakeside to 2 individuals whom asked me where I did my treatment. I believe, if you are sick and tired of the way your life is, because of the alcohol or drugs that your addicted to, and you've admitted to yourself, that it's time to get help, Lakeside-Milam has the tools to give you. They will work hard to help you to help yourself, to get clean and sober, and they will teach you the tools that you will need to use once you are discharged from their facility. They also have an amazing follow-up program.

if I had known what I know now I would of gone some where else. They were not up front about how they were going to systematically gear you towards there out patient program once you were through the 28 day program. They used fear tactics and intimidation to try to make you believe you will relapse if you do not do what they are recommending. After I told them I was not interested in following through with the intensive out patient program they started calling my family and employer to let them know I was not going to follow their recommendation. They will not except you telling them no thank you ...it was very annoying in the end. Never was I told that this would be a requirement to keep my job. Recommendation,ya right!!!

Lakeside Milam is a joke! straight up the worst treatment center I could have ever imagined. Before going, I specifically askede if it was a medical detox and was told it was... I was so sick the entire time. I even lost 10lbs in 10 days because I was so sick from withdrawing and couldn\'t stomach the disgusting food. It was old, dark, and dingy, and the beds were very uncomfortable. After 14 days of pure heck, I had to leave. Since I was leaving the program early, they refused to let me take any of my belongings and told me I could return in 24 hours to pick up my things. I wouldn\'t recommend this place to my worst enemy, it\'s a joke. Also, there were over 100 patients which made me feel very uncomfortable.

What a disaster. I checked in for the 28 day in Kirkland and realized what a mistake I had made right away. They took my prescription drugs and all electronics and shoved me in a room of three. No privacy. I was there to detox a few days from alcohol then finish the 28 day program. Not only do they not give you your prescription medicine, but there is no coffee and no sugar allowed. They thoroughly search you belongings and then take them all away. So 8 hours after being in the detox wing, I get woken up in the middle of the night to learn I had to pack up and move to the other wing cause new detox patients came in. Its a $ factory. They didn\'t know or care who was in detox and who was in treatment. The staff is uninformed and unfriendly. Its pretty much the same exact schedule every day. AA meetings, group meetings, AA meetings, lecture, and its all about the 12 step program. (the 12 step program by the way has one of the worst success rate of them all). You can call home at very specifc hour of the day and you have to use their Pay Phones and stand right at the administrative desk with no privacy, to make calls out. I felt that they are very determined to not let any information out of the building while you are in there. While I was in detox, they refused to let me call home to check in on my kids and said I couldn\'t communicate with anybody outside for three days. Food was edible, but the meal order is very structured and no sugar and no caffeine. Long and short of it, is that after a few short days I decided to pack my bags and leave. I went straight to Shick Shadle. Shick Shadle was great! I met numerous people in there who had went to Lakeside Milam and walked out and went to shick. The staff is mostly former drug and alcohol addicts. There is little medical attention and the staff is very rude. They are just running bodies through there because the state approves their treatment and the insurance carries cover it. Don\'t waste your time in this place. Get REAL help.

Food was pretty good. The grounds were beautiful. The guest speakers and movies were very good. My assigned counselor was a bit abrasive and hostile. I would not recommend this facility and their program, as it was run 6 years ago, to anyone!

Outside AA meetings Safe medical detox Good aftercare. Only 12-step offered. Large patient to counselor ratio. Meals are heavy on processed foods, no life style or religious options. Good place if you're already dedicated to sobriety and just need 28 days to clear your head and have help in the process. Lots of Oxford houses in the area to transition to but they now try to get people into their own sober living facility which is expensive. They have a good aftercare program included in price, just be sure you get into an "aftercare group" and not stuck in a outpatient program or you'll just redo all the stuff you did in inpatient.

Consistent schedule and friendly staff. Old buildings, old beds, lighting, flooring. Feels like a run down retirement home. No menu options for patients on alternative diets. No care offered for a simple cold. No activities other than lectures and outdated addiction videos. No recreational facilities. There is a ping pong table, thats it. Drab, depressing color scheme. Curriculum is too generic considering the varying ages of patients. I don't think this is a place for healing. They accept more patients than they have beds. It is geared towards religion, a religion that does not accept alternative lifestyles. I watched a very strong opinionated person lose his identity. Just parroting what was drilled into them everyday. Judging anyone that did not "give in and let god". I thought rehabilitation was supposed to treat the individual and their disease. Not turn them into religious fanatics.

My new husband had a 30 yr drug habit. He has been sober 7 years. A few relapses early on but he followed the program and sees a drug counselor. Treatment works if followed. However, there were no holistic applications.

A close friend attended a 28 day inpatient treatment for alcoholism. They were very accommodating with visitations for his wife to spend time with him through this difficult period. It was in a good location with good staff. It is just very expensive.

This was my daughters second in-patient stay for drug addiction. Despite convincing words upon admission, it failed just like the first attempt. Insurance covered the cost bother times of over $11,000. But my daughter just had no true interest in quitting. If she did, it may have worked. Follow through and actually feeling like they cared were not there.

There was enough structure to keep me on track, but also move me towards what I needed to do for myself. I was ready and that is what was critical, even though I didn't know it, They gave me the tools and a reason to use them.

This is an intensive inpatient 28 day program. You are on a schedule from 7am to 9 pm starting with breakfast. My brain was so full of information that like a sponge in water, it could absorb only so much. I was definantly ready to get out and move on with my life using the tools taught to me by the end of my 28days
