My son relapsed with alcohol, and was feeling suicidal when he made the decision to check himself in here. He was brought to detox, and I was told that he would be out in a day or so! he had another dangerous drug in his system, and since he contemplated jumping off the “highest bridge,” I would have certainly thought that they would have kept in for the maximum ten days for residential psychiatric care, but instead, they shipped him to the first extended residential program because they had a bed. How about a bed at your facility to further evaluate my son, and see if he is even capable of making the next step? To make matters worse, I wasn’t even given the common courtesy of a phone call that our son was leaving for another facility. No wonder mental illness is so prevalent in our society. Most of these places are just looking for a paycheck with little to no regard for their patients and their families. Insurance have to do a better job of finding facilities that have a much higher success rate. Otherwise, our children will just be a statistic or part of a vicious cycle of one hospital after another.

I have been to both Silver Hill (Main I /inpatient and River House) and McLean (Proctor II) McLean is sort of like a full-on insane asylum which is scary. The food is revolting and I have no other words to describe the polyester bedding and peeling paint in the shower. Silver Hill on the other hand, is dignified, comfortable and I felt like I was supported by other like-minded patients. At Silver Hill, I felt more like a valued client than some random ill patient.

I've been at McLean inpatient about three times and did ECT there. I got the best care there out of any place I've ever been. It's clean, the staff is awesome, and there are good groups to attend. You make it what you want it to be. I did have a problem with one of the nurses and it was handled in a professional and immediate manner. Highly recommend it. Go on the walks!

almost zero one-to-one support. staff tend to huddle in office area and rarely come out to engage with patients unless absolutely necessary. more than one staff member were necessarily abrasive with patients. food was pretty sub-par and there really wasn\'t enough of it. was grateful to be there in many ways but treatment wasn\'t comprehensive. i have public insurance and did notice that those who had better health insurance received more attention and better services, also got to stay longer. felt bounced out the door without much of a good explanation. won\'t be back, wouldn\'t recommend for those with limited resources or who do not have boutique insurance.

Lots of therapy, lots of staff. High cost, not easy to be admitted. My friend went there but it took more than a few weeks for a spot to open for her. She got a lot of helpful information, enjoyed all of her therapies, and even though it has been a struggle, she is really glad she finally got in.

National leader in research and treatment. This program has a partial hospital component which was required day time participation. This was convenient and effective.

My mother knew what to say to make it seem like she was better, when she really wasn't. Her issues were a lot. My mother received electric shock therapy, which really works for some people, but for her it did not. It actually made her act like a vegetable. She didn't know what she was doing, and would have stayed in bed had I not gotten her up. It got rid of more recent memories than the past ones that caused her depression and other issues.

The reputation is unbeatable. It's costly and the environment isn't great. They need to cut costs, and keep people longer.

We called the facility to try to get my son in the partial hospitalization for substance abuse program. Four calls were made over a period of three days without so much as a returned call. I think this is unacceptable.

The staff is very dedicated and highly trained. My son has detoxed here approx. 4 times. The program is structured and follows a consistent routine. My son prefers this facility over the several others that he has used for detox. This program makes my son feel like a respected patient and makes the process of detoxing as comfortable as possible. However, it is very difficult to get a bed....as most facilities in MA.

The connection with major teaching hospitals was great. However, it was too expensive - needs to be more accessible to all in need.

What I really think was important is the medical staff and research that they have. I had ECT and my experience was awesome. They also offer TMS. However, it would have been nice if they were able to offer more 12 step information and AA interaction.

I was sent there for structure because I was out of work and stuck in life. They explained everything that was happening which helped. However, it was not worth the cost because it didn't change the way I was feeling.
