Philosophy

Servicing Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding community, at Recovery First we know that when it comes to recovery, no two people are the same. That’s why the same treatment plan doesn’t work for everyone. At Recovery First, our main goal is to offer you freedom from your addiction through a personalized continuum of care. Throughout each level of care, you’ll receive an individualized plan of treatment catered specifically to your needs. You may move through treatment levels by moving from one facility to another. You’ll also find that the curriculum stays the same as you progress through treatment, keeping you grounded in the same main principles. So whether you started in detox at our Hollywood facility or came directly into the partial hospitalization program at our Ft. Lauderdale facility, you’ll be learning the same concepts and ways of thinking. We’re proud to offer our clients a diverse array of therapiesaimed at helping you change maladaptive thinking, work through issues such as grief or trauma, and increase your motivation for positive change. Changing the way you think about yourself and the world around you will increase your chances of lifelong success in recovery. Some types of therapies we might integrate into your plan of care may include dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), which helps you learn to alter your emotions and build better relationships with people, or process group therapy, where you work with others in recovery to talk about past experiences. Beginning your recovery is turning point in your life, and often an overwhelming and scary step. We want to reduce your burden and help you relax as much as possible. That’s why we have a number of amenities and features in our programs. From a stocked gym and recreation rooms to apartment-style living, our Hollywood location has just what you need to feel comfortable in rehab. A highlight of our Ft. Lauderdale location is its proximity to the beach. The feeling of warm sand between your toes and the sound of the turquoise ocean waves lapping upon the shore are just a short, five-minute walk away. Our goal is to help you feel as good in treatment as possible so that you can give all your attention to your recovery. our recovery doesn’t end whentreatment ends, and neither does our support. We offer a number of alumni and aftercare groups to help you stay on track and complete your goals. Recovery First offers a number of alumni and aftercare support sessions to keep you motivated and on track. Our alumni program hosts monthly events where you can learn to socialize and have fun with other people in recovery without using drugs or alcohol. You can also come to our aftercare meetings, which are held Saturday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. at our Hollywood facility, to talk more in depth about your recovery.

There is nothing provided for the weekends. The marketing strategy is good but it doesn’t deliver. They don’t explain the Financial responsibility until you are well in your treatment. They are understaff but the working staff is excellent.

While the medications they gave me worked for my detox everything else was a disaster. The staff were missing clothes they had washed for someone, the beds were lumpy and uncomfortable, several people were missing clothes and sandals, the food was terrible and someone got sick from it, med lines lasted 2 hours on the weekend, and the classes they made you attend didn't really teach us anything. You get asked a million questions by your counselor that get logged in the computer for what reason I don't know. And you can only smoke when everyone is ready. You can't leave the building ciz they yell at you to get inside. I'm glad that the meds worked and im clean today but they really need to get everything in order. They were painting the walls and doing construction during yoga class one time. It's hard to relax when you hear all those loud noises. Some of the techs are cool and care but other ones just saw it as a job and were very rude.

Please if you need help for recovery from alcohol or drugs, don’t go here. All the photos on their website are fake. The facility is old and rundown. The beds are terrible and you have to buy your own food. They are liars and aren’t upfront with their clients. They never told me I would have to buy my own food after getting here. Some of the staff are very nice. Others are extremely rude and are on a power trip. I’ve had staff walk into my room when I was dressing without knocking. Harness me when I’m outside class until of politely asking what’s going on. They are understaffed and you and expect to do absolutely nothing on the weekends. All but one of the dryers is broke and I don’t expect them to ever fix them. If you loved to be treated poorly and like a number this place is for you. They only care about getting as much money from your insurance as possible. I’ve waited over a week to see a doctor about my medication and I’m still waiting. They don’t care, it’s thats simple. Please don’t let your loved ones go to terrible place

All of the staff were excellent. They changed and saved my life. They for me in 3 months what doctors could not in 10 years. Yoga, classes, medical, staff and administration top notch and in some cases life changing. As with any organization you find flaws. A few staff not there because they love the job but just to collect a paycheck. They are very few in numbers.

I have been to a lot of treatment centers, from Posh to state run. Fortunately I was lucky enough to make it back. This is one of the best!!! Dont expect a luxury spa experience. Lol, that is NOT what you are in treatment for. The staff all the way from detox to treatment facility are amazing, they care. They do get overloaded so dont be shy about tracking down someone for what you need. You will get a lot of support from clients also. I rated the food 5 because we are able to choose what we want to eat and cook it. This all helps prepare you for the real world because a lot of us have to go to the grocery store and cook for ourselves. Also, if you listen and dont expect to walk out of rehab cured, you can make this your one and only rehab! SO SO WORTH IT.There is always someone to talk to if you ask. I think 99% of the staff there truly care. It is Amazing how they can remember everyone's name. Sometimes there may be 50 or 60 people there. Depending on which one you go to. Dont let that scare you. It really works. Sometimes they are overwhelmed and unorganized.

I did the 30 day program. Singer Island is not a country club experience, but if you participate in the program and cooperate with your fellow clients it will be effective in establishing sobriety. Most of the clients are in their twenties or thirties, and many have been deep into the drug culture. But there are also a few “old timers” in their fifties and sixties. Client demographics cut across all races and financial backgrounds—we had a CEO, a policeman, and a military officer, along with second- and third-time drug offenders facing significant jail time when they got home. The therapists and counselors are knowledgeable and professional. They do have a high caseload, so you usually have only one individual meeting with them per week; but you have a couple of additional group sessions with them each week. Guest presenters have strong group lessons and most of them are worthwhile; some are outstanding. Technicians run the living quarters with enough discipline to keep a safe environment, but the techs aren\'t always synched up with the treatment staff when it comes to rules and policies--this is an irritant to clients. Almost every employee is a recovering addict who has turned their life to helping other addicts—they know what you are going through and help with equal measures of empathy and tough love. The schedule is designed to keep clients busy and focused on recovery. In addition to 6 hours of classes and meetings at the treatment center, busses take clients to AA or NA meetings each evening. Saturday schedule is the same as the weekdays. Sundays include church in the morning and an outing in the afternoon, often to the nearby beach. A unique aspect of SI is that the living quarters surround a common patio area in the middle. Days begin and end with clients conducting self-directed meditations and meetings under the grass-roof hut. If you and your fellow clients are dedicated to achieving sobriety then these gatherings are some of the most powerful and effective aspects of treatment. While the SI treatment facilities are top-notch (including the Wellness Center with outstanding gym, massage, acupuncture, and yoga opportunities), the living quarters are in comparison subpar. It is a 1960’s beach motel or apartment building that shows its age. Maintenance has been sparse and you learn to live with minor inconveniences such as a missing closet door, broken desk lamp, or rusting shower head. Some of the room air conditioners can’t keep up with the south Florida summer heat. Apartment cleanliness suffers because client turnover is high and the maids never get an empty apartment to do a thorough scrubdown. Two or 3 or even 4 clients are in each apartment. You get a budget with which to shop for groceries every week and cook your own meals. If you combine your budget with your roommates, you can eat like kings. Most roommates alternate cooking dinner for their entire apartment. On Sunday evenings clients contribute to a pot luck dinner that happens outside in the patio area. Would I recommend SI to a friend? Yes, if that friend is looking for a structured treatment program that unplugs you from the world and enforces a space to heal with the help of a trained staff. But you need a tolerance for living in somewhat spartan and cramped quarters, wisdom to understand the restrictive rules exist to help you achieve sobriety, willingness to cook meals and cleanup after yourself, and patience to endure the constant “hurry up and wait” that’s involved in bussing clients between the residence and the treatment center. SI is best for the person who doesn’t dwell on the negative, is prepared to take a hard look inside and embrace the needed changes, and is willing to proactively reach out to help his fellow clients, thereby also helping himself heal.

Group speakers, especially Jorge. Budget cuts reducing staff at location. Family weekend only once a month and it happened very shortly after my arrival. Website pictures are misleading, but don't let that deter you. The fellow folks dealing with addiction are a great support system and the nightly meetings are a great support for recovery.

The positives: -Their commitment to us to help us though this -the programs offered for us -the facility its self. Some negatives: -the tech's attitudes and understandments -miscommunication. I loved my experience to the extent of putting my mind to it. Focusing on what's being taught will help a lot but looking at the little things like how the place is run some of the rules that aren't meant to be there, there's a lot of miscommunication between the tech's and the clients here. Theres a lot of things that are said to be done but never get done like mentioned as often as expected. But still a beautiful enduring place if your mind is set to the right thing about this program.

Staff member are always available to comfort patients. The staff is really understanding and helpful. Groups are really focused on recovery. They take us to outside meeting. They do alumni once a month. They bring in speakers a lot durning groups and in house meetings. The staff shares their strength and hope with us and helped me want to better myself and be able to have the willingness to overcome the craving of using again. Can't think of any. This is my second time at singer island and I was so glad that I came back, singer island is an amazing treatment center, I would recommend it to anyone struggling and anyone who wants to get better because at singer they open their arms to you and love you and show you it's okay to love your self. They help guide you and teach you what to do and show you how to live without using drugs and alcohol. Singer changed mylife and I believe it can change anyone's.

Making individuals aware of underlying issues that need to be addressed in order to be happy and successful in recovery. The "techs" are often unprofessional and ignorant, handling things insensitively and breaking the hippo law by discussing clients information with other clients or staff members. This treatment center is great, I am extremely grateful and I learned alot about myself, the main thing that needs to be changed is the problems with the techs.

Groups every day are the most helpful. Everyone is very supporting and friendly, and are willing to help you. No health plan. I got a scholarship to Singer Island and it was the best thing that has ever happened to me. I got most out of the groups and the ladies I was with. Everyone here actually cares and wants the best for you. But YOU have to put in the work! Thank you Singer Island!

Great groups and facilitators, Address problems beyond just the addiction Very helpful case managers, Structured day, Good amount of strictness Website is not representative of what the facility truly looks like, Some techs are not the best drivers and are rude to clients. Not as many extracurricular activities as expected.Go to meetings at one place way too much. Mainly NA meetings and not many AA My therapist was not as involved in my recovery as I'd hoped. This facility has been very accommodating since the beginning. They helped me manage my insurance so that I'd be able to pay for treatment. I have really liked the majority of groups I've attended. I feel prepared to leave. They were really helpful in finding the right aftercare for my personal needs.

It is very well organized, the overall condition of the facility is great. The staff is more than fair in all aspects. I can say that it is the nicest facility I have ever seen and would recommend this facility to anyone that asks me. The counselors are very straight and to the point and have helped me more than I can put into words. It is a place that makes you feel at ease. I love that the place has us go to narcotic anonymous meetings 6 days a week and for those who are alcoholics in the facility they are aloud to attend Alcoholics Anonymous. The clinical staff is so nice and has so much to offer in a since that they are well educated in this field and put you on a treatment plan that best fits you.

The staff is very personal. They take true pride and care into the clients. Many of the staff were addicts themselves so they could relate to the clients and better understand to tend to their needs. The groups we go to are awesome and the meeting locations we go to were fabulous.

Strengths: Many of the techs are recovering addicts themselves and they share their experience, strength and hope. The therapists are compassionate but also intuitive in that they will see through your bull. The speakers are experienced and inspirational. Weaknesses: There are two or three techs who are not recovering addicts, and therefore are not as compassionate as the other techs/often give us attitudes because they do not understand what we are going through. If you need to change your people, places and things and flourish when given some restrictions, but still have some freedoms (aka not a boot camp rehab) then Singer Island is for you.

Strengths: The groups, the therapists, the staff, the facility as a whole had many strengths. Weaknesses: Understaffed. The structure of the facility made it very easy to learn how the days went, the groups are very thorough and my therapist is amazing I can literally talk to her about anything and she gives me great advice and my case manager helped me with my after care plans all in a timely manner.
