ABOUT RESURGENCE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH
Resurgence Behavioral Health is a substance use and behavioral health treatment center in Costa Mesa, Calif. One of just 197 (15 percent) of facilities that offers detox in the state of California, Resurgence Behavioral Health follows an integrated approach to treatment with two parts to it: changing unhealthy habits and behaviors and replacing them with coping skills, healthy habit development, and other practices dedicated to long-term recovery.
Many clients begin with a brief detoxification - one that’s supported by 24-hour medical care and lasts one to three days - prior to beginning active treatment.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The treatment approach at Resurgence Behavioral Health is integrated: it offers both faith-based and 12-step groups and evidence-based SMART Recovery meetings on-site and in the community. As the facility’s website notes, “every member of our staff is trained in, and supportive of, all kinds of addiction support groups.”
Following a thorough interview, intake process, many clients begin with a brief detoxification that’s supported by 24-hour medical care. Detox typically lasts one to three days.
Once they’ve reached residential treatment, clients begin learning coping skills and developing habits related to health and hygiene, money management, communication skills, and stress management. In groups, they’ll gain exposure to cognitive behavioral (CBT) and dialectical behavior (DBT) therapies, relapse prevention and life skills training, and what the facility outlines describes as “vulnerability studies” and “happiness projects.” Programming also befits individuals dually diagnosed with a substance use disorder (SUD) and a mental health disorder.
Resurgence Behavioral Health also run an intensive outpatient program (IOP) - one of just 517 (39.4 percent) of IOPs statewide - that’s available either as a stand-alone option or following a residential stay. Outpatient services, available seven days a week, consists of an initial assessment, process groups, and individual and family sessions.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Resurgence Behavioral Health has a team of medical professionals, therapists, counselors, admissions and support staff. Day-to-day programming is led by a certified alcohol drug counselor (CADCII), a board-certified psychiatrist, and a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT).
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Resurgence can accommodate up to 22 clients at a time in modest gender-separate homes. On the ground floor, the residence has a full kitchen as well as multiple common room with couches and wall-mounted TVs. Rooms sleep to three per room, and outside are shaded seating areas with tables.

Feedback provided by a pair of alumni was positive. The two individuals who shared their personal experience with Rehabs.com described the Costa Mesa facility as a “very nice place” with clean facilities and “great” food. “The staff here cares. It’s rare to find a place like this,” alum Matthew wrote to Rehabs.com.
