Inpatient for eating disorder and substance abuse issues 6+ years ago. The facilities are nice but I feel like there needs to be more security... Additionally taking an approach other than the disease approach to substance use could be more beneficial to more people in the long run. In all though it was a decent facility for my specific needs

Today I found my husband of 56 years, an Alzheimer\'s patient at Ridge View, unclean and sad. HE HAD NOT BEEN SHAVED FOR THREE DAYS AND WAS WEARING THE SAME YELLOW GOLF SHIRT AND WHITE UNDERSHIRT as Sunday when I last visited him. He was sad and wanted to come home. My plastic bag of \"things we can do together\" (family photos, a golf joke book, over-the-counter eye drops for his dry eye problem,) was searched THOROUGHLY as if I were a security risk. (I am a retired university professor though I look more like a suburban housewife;) I brought music as I had on previous visits to play on a head set, but today this was forbidden. How can we bring happiness to our loved ones in such a restricted atmosphere.? My husband has always loved music and it makes him happy. The CD\'s I brought were, \"My Fair Lady\" and \"The Best of Jeff Foxworhy\" -- highly inflammatory? seditious? dangerous?? Joy, happiness are sorely missing from the atmosphere at Ridge View. How can anyone expect recovery here?

Wasnt aware of any Didnt help rehabilitate at all, He started smoking cigarettes here, which is yet another addictive problem and which was "ok" by their standards. Just temporarily replacing one problem for another... he also nevr got co-occuring diagnoses help here. They dont look for the cause of addiction just try to treat the symptoms. Not a place to go if you really want to get to the root of the problem and get better.

Better doctor's staffed onsite to help with medication management. Staff seem to be well organized. Doctors and staff spend more time with patients. Peaceful setting like a nature retreat. Very expensive. Have to leave before ready due to insurance rules that only cover short periods.Options to finance do not always work due to struggles with credit rating affected by the high costs of loved ones needing this expensive care and expensive medications. Though I did not give the top rating in the individual categories, I gave it the highest recommendation for others to try because it has been by far the best facility we have used. Every facility needs work, but this one has done the best job in trying to get it right.

The facility has reasonable counseling and good medical monitoring. Some of the counseling sessions were not effective for me. I also met two women who had previously been in this facility and I just did not feel they had gotten the proper treatment. For myself, I was highly motivated for stopping alcohol use which was one of my main problems, but I don't think my depression (which is what I checked myself in for) was properly addressed by the counseling sessions. Group therapy is very difficult for someone like myself who also had many anxiety issues, with social anxiety being one of my worst demons. This facility is good for someone who has addiction problems. The medical monitoring is good, the staff makes sure the patients are taking their medications and eating properly. Since I had a severe problem with depression I felt only half of my problem was really addressed properly. The focus at this facility is the addiction component and at that they perform well.

It would be well to remember that people struggling with active addictions; and, when they are beginning to work a program to straighten out incredibly difficult lives usually cover their life problems by blaming others. This was true when I was a patient ten years ago. I have relapsed twice and each time I returned to living a life I learned at Ridge View; a good life without using the usual addictive excuses to put blame on others for my screw ups. Regardless of what addicts may say, ADDICTION is a lifetime struggle; so work with it. Dealing with addicts requires professional help unlike anything the addict has known prior to seeking treatment. Addicts are self centered and not used to living a sober life. Doubt it? Then find an addict active in his or her addiction and see what your amateur knowledge can do to help. Recovery begins and ends with the addict. Sobriety is a life style that begins and ends with the addict. No one gets SOBER by working a program be them selves. It takes work and as a former addict, I testify that addicts are some of the laziest, self centered, hypocrites one can ever find. Like me, these folks have a disease that will last a lifetime. Recovery does not equal a cure; and, more often than not, complaining is another symptom of an Addictive Lifestyle. Complaining is easy; working a Program of Sobriety is tough!

My regular therapist told me after I got at out that Ridgeview is \"one of the best in the country.\" Well if that\'s the case, the rest of the country is MESSED UP. The only one-on-one therapy I received was when my case manager pulled me aside to point out the rules ban cursing (REALLY??? THAT\'S WHAT YOU\'RE WORRIED ABOUT????) and then later to tell me I had been disruptive because someone in my first group therapy session had made a joke and I laughed, and therefore I was no longer to attend group therapy sessions. The joker and I were then ordered not to speak to each other, like kindergartners in time out. But that is NOTHING compared to what they did to a 15-year-old victim on the ward.... She mentioned what her therapist said to her about her trauma in the single other group session I was allowed to attend, and I, rather than the case manager, jumped in to tell her it is not her fault some grown man decided to hurt her, and that she was brave and loved and had a right to her bodily integrity, and that she DEFINITELY NEEDED A NEW DOCTOR. The case manager instead was all like, \"Oh, psychiatric relationships are just like any personal relationship, you need to communicate and give him a chance.\" NO. I don\'t know how some victim-blaming bozo like that would be allowed within 100 feet of a ward specifically designated for female trauma victims. The teenager was also not allowed into the trauma group session because grown-ups have \"really serious issues,\" as if what happened to her when you\'re 15 is not a serious issue, so I ended up sitting with her (being banned myself from group therapy) and trying to validate her and tell her how brave she was and how there are a lot of people who understand and care about her. Ridgeview should be paying me for undoing their damage on that poor girl. They offered me outpatient treatment afterward, and I told them I wanted absolutely nothing to do with that cr*p they consider \"therapy.\" Go if you\'re on death\'s door, but be ready to deal with really dumb, infantilizing, incredibly harmful treatment from the \"therapists\" there.

I used to just have simple insomnia, but since the horrendous experience of meeting Dr.Weichbrodt I have been diagnosed with PTSD by 2 different doctors. It developed after I received a completely false and fabricated diagnoses in order to detain me in a psychiatric hold and milk insurance money. This man abused his power while I was locked up in a ward to degrade and deprave me. I was forced drugged for a condition I did not have. I was stripped naked, violated and dehumanized. This atrocious \"Dr.\"Gary Weichbrodt should not be allowed anywhere near people with Psychological disorders, especially Girls!! Lord have mercy The LAST place on Earth this \"MAN\" should be working at is a LOCKED DOWN WOMEN\'S PSYCH UNIT with young girls trying to recover from TRAUMA and eating disorders. This vile and corrupt man needs to be put under investigation by the Board of Medicine and have his licence revoked.

I voluntarily checked myself in for depression and wound up being recommended for residential treatment for drug/alcohol addiction due to a remote history of substance use. They have no effective mental health only treatment program and everything seems geared toward those with substance/alcohol abuse problems. I think they looked at my insurance, which covered 100% of my treatment, and tried to convince me I had a substance abuse problem to keep me there so they could make money. I do recommend this program if one has a substance abuse problem, but if you are looking for only mental health treatment, Ridgeview is not for you as they do not offer individual counseling.

I VOLUNTARILY checked myself into Ridgeview for depression and anxiety that did not result in suicidal/homicidal ideation or intent, but severely immobilized me for my activities of daily living, including my job. However, I admitted to a remote history of substance use, not abuse, and I was labeled an addict and put into the dual outpatient PHP, where my mental health issues were not addressed. There were people there who attempted suicide due to drugs and MH symptoms, had multiple run-ins with the law due to drugs and public displays of inappropriate behavior due to drugs that deserved to be there. However, I had no history of severe/chronic drug use with serious consequences, and several counselors and the pill happy doctor assigned to me individually and literally argued with me that a remote history of drug use makes one an addict. In addition, although I came to Ridgeview voluntarily for mental health issues, they threatened to put me in the residence for substance abuse, and upon hearing this, I checked myself out against medical advice. I had participated in the outpatient program for three weeks, waiting to see the good of it before I left due to their threat to hospitalize me. This place is primarily focused on addiction and offers little to no treatment for mental health only issues. They make their money by labeling anyone who admitted to so much as having had a beer in their lifetime as an addict, try to convince them they are an addict, and keep you their to receive addiction treatment. I was told that weed I smoked during high school in the 1970s makes me an addict even though I have not smoked any since. I had good insurance that paid 100% of my care, and keeping me there by labeling me an addict was, of course, money for them. My warning to you, if you have mental health only problems with no substance use or abuse, Ridgeway is not for you as they don\'t really have a MH only treatment program and label any and everyone an addict to justify a longer stay. Also, they do not offer individual counseling as everything is group therapy that is not always comfortable for everyone. This place is like a cult, as they keep you doped-up that is visible by anyone who is still somewhat lucid themselves, and try to convince you you are more fucked up than you yourself think so they can basically kidnap you. BEWARE OF THIS CULT-LIKE ENVIRONMENT. If you fall into the hype, you will be walking around Zombie-like (from the meds), with your arms straight ahead, introducing yourself as \" I\'m So-and-So, and I\'m and Addict/alcoholic\" even though you aren\'t.

I was taken to Ridgeview for severe depression and anxiety. I was starting to have suicidal thoughts - not necessarily implementation, but I was debating different options. I accepted that I needed to be there. I waited 3.5 hours to be assessed, but everyone was nice. I was told that I would be placed in the Women\'s Trauma Center, seeing as my depression was caused by a sexual assault. Instead, I was just taken to the Psych Unit (which I guess I understood). All of the nurses and Clinician Assistants were extremely nice. My psychiatrist was okay, but I only saw him for 5 minutes a day - I got more help from the CA\'s and other patients. It\'s a good place for stabilization, and honestly, if I could have afforded to stay for the IOP (intensive outpatient), I may have. My main complaint was being told I\'d be in one unit, then placed in another.

Staff is generally competent and knowledgeable. Facility is modern and well-maintained. Program has enough diverse options that makes it fairly easy to identify what "path" to take. Doctors are overbooked and do not have time to go in depth with any one patient -- seems like if you don't ask the right question, you don't get the right answer. I was exposed to some information that was new and different and led me to ultimately identify what was wrong with me. Since I had been struggling for more than 30 years, it was a huge relief and I am very grateful.

I was never a patient (inpatient) here, but I have had many positive experiences on an outpatient basic and have also benefited from free support groups they have offered. Although not all the women I met across time who had been treated on an inpatient basis were cured of their disorders, I would say that I never heard anything that made me think it would not be an excellent facility to attend should the need arise. This facility offered wonderful follow up care for her as well as for me (on an outpatient basis). In my opinion, it is the most well equipped facility in the Atlanta area to treat women with eating disorders

The detox and IOP was very good. After Care is run by an individual who has no formal training as a CAD, only 25 years in AA. The Alumni Group, which is also run by the person in charge of After Care, has allowed an individual with less than a year of sobriety to head up Patient Relations. This individual coordinates AA Meetings in Detox staffed by former patients of Ridgeview, who are part of the Alumni Group. What about the patients who are often cross-addicted? Clients are paying hefty sums to be patients at Ridgeview and deserve better!

I am a registered nurse who sought help for anxiety and depression at Ridgeview Institute. I drove myself there and checked in at the front desk where I was ushered back to a room. I was told I would owe a $500 deposit before my insurance was even verified. I have an HMO and had checked my benefits before going and should be covered at 100%. Then I was left in a cold, dreary room for 3 hours by myself not knowing what was going to happen next. Finally, someone came to take me by a security guard to the womens unit for eating disorders? Really? I couldn't believe it. Instead of being admitted to their professionals unit as advertised, I was with women who weren't eating, purging and literally walking skeletons. I am definitely not bulemic or anorexic....The entire staff was rude and demeaning to me. I was ordered around like a prisoner...They put me on a detox protocol. Not what I was there for. They lied and said that my family had told them I was under-reporting the use of a prescription medicine...I wasn't abusing - I didn't have any....I finally checked myself out against medical advice after 48 hours. Worst mistake I ever made in my life. DO NOT GO HERE FOR TREATMENT!!!! TAKE IT FROM A REGISTERED NURSE....

It is supposedly a world renowned place, very comfy and easy going pace. No real consequences except for your own shame or somebody informing the staff about your abuse of the program...It was very educational about addictions, etc. but it didn't work. It educated and took care of you while you were there. I drank as soon as I left. Later I went to another program with strict testing and zero tolerance that was a two year program and that one worked for me.

They said they had special programs geared toward older adults and there was no such thing. They did nothing but house our mother for a month. Useless.

Our son was clean and sober for over 25 years, married with 2 daughters. Very active in his 12 step programs. We went to 12 step program meetings for quite some time with him. Unfortunately 3 years ago he suffered a massive coronary and passed away. Over 500 people came to his memorial service and his Facebook page still receives messages of gratitude to him.

I reached an understanding about myself and my addiction to degree that I have been sober for 26 years. I would call that a success.
