Group therapies are tailored to the patient’s unique experiences. The various levels of care we provide at Sunrise House range from medical detox and residential treatment to outpatient treatment and aftercare planning. At Sunrise House, you’ll participate in various types of group and holistic therapies that are tailed to meet your specific treatment needs. From trauma-focused treatment and age-specific groups to gender-specific treatment and LGBTQ+ tracks, Sunrise House can provide you with access to relevant information about recovery. You will also have at least one individual therapy session a week. Our facility has a variety of amenities and features that will help you to feel comfortable while in treatment and also help restore both your physical and emotional health. We’re located in an old convent, with historic architecture and scenic views of Sussex County. We also have various amenities, including but not limited to table tennis, an expert culinary staff, basketball, a nutritionist, a fitness center, and more. From intake to discharge, you’ll have access to discharge planners and alumni coordinators who will work to make sure you have a support network waiting for you to help continue your recovery. Discharge planning will ramp up as you near the end of your treatment and will focus on tailoring a recovery plan for where you are in the process. Additionally, you’ll have the option of joining Sunrise House’s alumni network, which will keep you in contact with the facility staff and with a national network of alumni living in recovery.

Testimonials

  • The lifestyle I was living just wasn’t working out for me anymore. I just knew that I deserved better. And I just didn’t want to die, because I’d lost probably seven people in the past… two years from the stuff that’s on the street right now. And I just didn’t want to be one of those statistics. Everyone’s here for the same thing, you know, everyone’s here trying to get well and trying to get better and turn their life around. I was just tired of being tired. I was ready to live life, not just be in it. It definitely is structured, I would say, but it’s good-- It keeps you out of your head, it keeps you busy. It’s very relaxing outside because you’re allowed to walk around the building and I remember a few of us would always just walk around and kind of stop at the top of the hill over there and just look out into the valley. It’s a very beautiful sight to see, I would say. It’s like a big family here… all the staff, they actually care about your wellbeing and they want to see you succeed in recovery and in here, which to me was huge to have that support from all the staff. Being comfortable in an uncomfortable situation is huge in recovery. God willing, I will never have to come back to a place like this, but if I did, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back because it’s more important to make it back than to be afraid or embarrassed to go back to a treatment facility.

Alot of good people there. As usual the nurses were lazy, only one actually had good nursing skills. The place needs updating, especially to have at least a bathroom in the rooms. I learned alot and continue with treatment to this day! Thank you! Strengths: The non nursing staff were very supportive and always there if u needed anything. Weaknesses: If a person is detoxing, they should be able to bring your meds to you if you are too sick to walk up for them. At least during detox. No one from nursing checked up on me once during the day. Second shift did.

Some good relapse prevention and coping skills sessions. Facility was under staffed. Facility was filthy. Someone needs to have the health department do an inspection. Some staff members were truly concerned with patient welfare. Many staff members were nasty with major attitudes, food was all salt and starch and they kept running out of food. There was little staff on weekends. No exercise activities. Too many breaks, not enough focus on teaching skills for living in the real world.

Would not recommend this place. It's dirty, it's sad, it's not a "recovery" at all. In fact you need a recovery from this "recovery" center. Also AAC and this place do not communicate at all. They tell you lies upon lies about how you'll have Netflix in your room, you can have amenities, how much it'll cost, etc. First off there are no amenities at this place. The gym is barely useable. The staff are rude and condescending. It's completely understaffed and you barely get to talk to your counselor at all. Overall just a terrible vibe. Sorry to be harsh but it's true.

Treatment Centers are suppose to help people with their addiction and most importantly help them heal. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. Besides their overall lack of management skills, misconduct, abuse of power, nursing staff lack of competency, and complete disregard for the well being of the clients, they also will milk your insurance, drug the client and then manipulate them to stay longer. If that isn't bad enough, they regularly dispense the wrong medication. Our family member was given the wrong medication and had a severe adverse reaction, yet received zero medical attention. No one called the family, we received a call from our family member, who we picked up and took to the ER. This place should be closed for numerous reasons. I could go on with other examples as there are many. It is sad that people that just want to get help, would ever have to experience this place. They run it like a prison, not a treatment center. ACC who owns this facility is located in TN, they bought this place in 2016 as part of an expansion. (615) 732-1616. They apparently do not monitor what is going on with their other locations.

Good counselors. Poor organization not enough staff Several continuous Hippa violations Several Safety/OSHA vilolations. Health violations such as stopped toilets and sinks, only 2 working clothes washers for 100+patients, so on. Rampant vaping-about 1/2 the patients were openly vaping in the buildings, as well as using dip.

Overall the treatment center was great the only complaint is that the CEO is the most unprofessional person we have ever met and refuse to take even constructive criticism and would strictly minimize any concern brought to them. Otherwise, the staff was extremely caring, helpful and genuinely cared about our well being and our process both in here and after I left. good staff genuinely cared about our current progress.

Staff really care but are understaffed on a regular basis - upper management needs to listen to the staff that acctually work on the floor with the clients - being that doesnt happen you have a high turn over rate and high AMA rates- bottom line the client deserves better and staff that actually care are left hearing constant complaints from the clients as a result of poor management skills. Cure staff truly care. No consistency. No consequences for negative behavior if the client has good insurance Part of recovery is learning there are consequences for negative behaviors- hello !!!

I put in a comment just yesterday to have it excluded. Though there may have been some staff members that were helpful, there were more that did not help my son. He was there for a week, and was hurt there by a male. After reporting it staff, they did nothing but try to gaslight me with the idea that my son had violated protocol, when in fact, the place has very loose rules. They do not respect LGBTQ addicts. Though I understand they are all substance abuses, each and every person who enters that place has a specific history, and feelings. They made not attempt to investigate the situation, nor did they offer him medical assistance, but insisted my son needed to be placed in a psychiatric hospital. I urge anyone who is interested in going to Sunrise to do a bit of research on other facilities. As a matter of fact, I witnessed 7 people leave the facility on Saturday, and it was not because they had graduated.

The Sunrise House in Lafayette New Jersey was a great place for me to get the care and information that I needed to move forward as a sober person. I learned a lot, the staff are great but the connections I made with the other patients is a bond that is unbreakable. I woudn't have been able to make it through this without the women community always there for me when they saw me having a bad day. I strongly reccomend the Sunrise house for you or a loved one.

This facility is very old and not updated. They promised to give my child they help they needed to overcome their addiction. They told us they would leave free of medications, not so. They told them they would be able to talk to a psychiatrist. In the time there was never able to see physchiatrist. Everything there is done by emails to different staff members. They were not able to send my child who told th them that they did not feel well and was told by the nurses she was not still withdrawing she must have the flu. She was nauseous it took 2 days to get to see the doctor. The CEO, was at a meeting meeting once and said to my child your father must have left you at an early age. You don t say something like that to anyone. Her father never left her at all. Her fater has lived with us all of the childs life. The counselor was very nice, and helped my child out a lot. There was no aftercare or Doctors set up or IOP set up like they told us. I don't think they kept their promise to us. I paid out of pocket for the facility. My child did not get the services that were supposed to be provided. I did not like the woman codirector she was nice at first but at the meeting we requested when my child was leaving. As I said nothing was set up...no doctors, no IOP set up. Also the medication was not given to her. Dr there said my child was no longer his patient and he would not give it to her. She did not tell us , she was looking for my Child to tell them. If I had known I would have asked for them before we left I had to run around looking for s pharmacy to see if they had the medication and.paid $140.00 for it out i of pocket. Very unsatisfied with some of the staff Not a satisfied client...🙁🙁

It was a very pleasant first-rehab experience. Not at all what I was expecting going into treatment. For the most part (there are a few bad apples who are not worthy of the following praise, and some who definitely had a negative impact on other patients as well as my own experiences at Sunrise) the staff is wonderful, kind and you can tell they truly care about you.

I attended Seabrook House in 2008 - I would give them a 10, rating-wise. Sunrise House would get a distant 2 - and I kindly hope you would let her know that. Honestly, if I ever hear another lecture fro her, I think I will drink again. She is not an addict, and has no real knowledge of how it feels to be an addict - she's strictly by the book, so she will ever completely understand us. She thinks her degrees and years of babbling the same drivel will somehow impress us. NOT!! I will be writing a complete detailed account of my time spent here, which I paid $12,000 of own funds toward my "treatment" - my details will follow, but aside from a few really knowledgeable counselors and BT's, nobody really knew what they were doing. I am a non-smoker, and had to deal with not only smoking on the breezeway on a daily basis, but fraternization along with it (three "hook-ups" while I was there alone, which went completely unnoticed)- all these things combined absolutely affected my recovery - honestly, the 28 days was pretty much like a bubble - some sort-of decent food, met some great friends, but the staff, nurses, counselors (except for one - she was AWESOME), you will be reported to the authorizes that are posted on your bulletin board near the cafeteria. Blessings!!

I am eternally grateful for Sunrise House, it was an amazing facility with the best level of care I could have asked for, the administration, counselors and BT's (many of which I became very close to) were just amazing and essential in my recovery. I would not be where I am today without caring support and words of wisdom I received during my stay, thank you so much. In my opinion Sunrise House is by far the best and most effective rehab facility in which I will forever credit in saving my life, it will always have a special place in my heart. A special thanks to them. Words can not express the level of appreciation I have for all of you and all you have done in helping me get my life back. Much respect to you all.

My comments hold the most water. I was self-pay 90 days from Oct 12 to Jan 12 2017. This place has made me sober, alive, and well. Take your recovery serious. Overall experience was good. Few changes need to be made, however Treatment is an A- Accommodations is a C-..... you have to use pay phones to make calls. (yes pay phones still exist) Meals and Nutrition was a solid A. I would love to actually leave a review of this place but I didn\'t even get that far. after years of struggling with my addiction I finally decided to get help!! I have insurance that is in network with this place. thought I was finally going to get the help I need. had my bags packed and everything to then be told I have a 2,400 dollar deductible still and can\'t enter treatment unless I pay that in full upfront before entering! well guess what??? I don\'t have that kind of money! and no I can\'t borrow it from a relative! obviously if I\'m finally ready to seek treatment I\'ve got rock bottom and I\'m broke. I\'m not young and have mommy or daddy to help me any more. the funny thing is I have insurance! they will get paid! I\'ve never been so disgusted in my life! no wonder why addicts are dying every day! no money no help!! oh wait just read the fine print...

I sent a loved one to this facility, and while she survived the detox stage, and the following 3 weeks of treatment, the facility management is so unorganized and uninterested in providing quality care to the people sent there for help. There are some very caring staff and counselors at this place that are the reason many receive the care they need and the support. Doctors are understaffed and overworked, and many of the patients go through several days of detox before ever even seeing a doctor. There were avoidable miscalculations on methods of detox that caused unnecessary pain and trauma to patients. There is a large amount of theft...There is no documentation of articles retained during intake, so patients may never see their belongings again, other than clothing, toiletries, and appliances, it also included identification cards, bank cards, etc. When an inquiry was made as to the whereabouts of the items retained, I was told by the assistant director that we were \"out of luck\", there was no paperwork and they couldn\'t find anything\"! It seems that the easiest thing possible, to log belongings taken from the patient, obtaining a signature from the patient, and placing them in a container with their name on it, was just too much work for this facility. (If a jail could manage do this for thousands of inmates, why can\'t this be done for patients under the direct care of a medical facility?) Yes, so the thousands of dollars I paid cash for wasn\'t enough. Now I need to replace all those items out of my pocket. It is very sad, and was not the only incident as reported by several others.

This place was good, until I was discharged. But seriously, this place will help you build that foundation, that is for sure... Anyways back to my review, my stars went from 5 to 1 when I called asking for some help again and they turned their backs. The counselor I had said their is nothing they can do and basically said do not call them again. AA/NA always welcomes us back.. Doesnt matter. I found help at another facility and I am doing great.. I find this institution to be unethical . . .taking chronic alcoholics back again and again and again for their \"hotel facilities\" and not treating the disease. My sponsee has been there at least 10 times...Additionally, they do not have the medical staff onsite to address the medical complications with low bottom alcoholism. Their luxury accommodations DO NOT HELP the chronic alcoholic. They are more interested in getting the money, than treating the patient!!!!! --

Strengths: Nonjudgmental staff and a true desire to help clients. Weaknesses: Organization and communication. This program opened the door to help me fight for my life. I've never once said I wanted to leave and just go home because I truly love and believe in the treatment here at Sunrise House. This facility will forever be a part of my life and I am ever grateful to it's staff for helping me build a new foundation to rebuild myself from the ground up.

ATTENTION PLEASE READ!!!! My name is Melanie, I attended sunrise house for 6 days and my entire stay there was filled with fear, coldness, lack of sleep, lies and NO help at all when it was needed, not only for myself but for the other patients as well. This place is disorganized and no matter what you need no one has time to help you because they ALWAYS have something better to do. I got kicked out for \"negative behavior\" HA and it was the most relief I had in days. Although I was shocked for this reasoning considering I was coming off of drugs, they didn\'t even give me a warning or try to accommodate me and my needs. PLEASE DO NOT PASS UP THIS REVIEW. I know addicts are hard to believe but this review is nothing but the TRUTH. As I got signed out it was like a domino effect, I watched many others walk out right behind me. I want people like me to get REAL help and to never be put on the back burner and that is all you will receive at sunrise house. If it weren\'t for the other patients in detox I couldn\'t have gotten through those 6 VERY long days. We took care of each other while staff didn\'t know what to tell us. The counselors don\'t have time for you and while in a detox/rehab program they play one of the biggest rolls in your recovery. I never even got told what my treatment plan was. The BT\'s are rude and talk to you like you are garbage. I am not writing this review to scare anyone, I am writing it out of concern because I fear for anyone that goes to this place. I wish whoever reads this the best of luck in the next step they choose to take.

Sunrise house saved my life after a suicide attempt. Since being bought out by AAC, some of the staff have left for personal reasons, which is upsetting. However, the facility itself has been updated quite a bit. New mattresses (which are AWESOME by the way), remodeled rooms, hallways, etc, floors redone, new furniture. It is still under construction but is improving quickly. The counselors are almost all in recovery and are very understanding and empathetic toward clients. The staff, also, are mostly in recovery. The BTs are fantastic (generally speaking, there are always exceptions), and in my experience they really do want to help. You get out what you put into your time there, and those who really want to get better will. Some of the rules are annoying, but they exist for a reason. If you can\'t follow some stupid rules for like a month out of your life, can you really expect to be able to succeed outside of there? The food is pretty bangin. I gained a lot of weight there.

Staff are able to relate on a very personal level with client needs and experience. Staff are very passionate about clients receiving the needed information and wanting clients to get well and stay well. Older premises in need of renovation. A real gym/fitness area is sorely needed as well as a participatory music program and a library. Also, there should be a central, neutral area where men and women may talk especially to discuss the impact of some of the lessons. It is not a natural situation to be a bi-gender facility with NO communication. Staff observation and redirection as required may be appropriate. I feel that everyone was treated with respect even though some of the clients did "push the ticket ". Again, I feel that the staff, professional or other express a personal interest in clients welfare and health. I have difficulty imagining anyone getting more personal treatment, anywhere.

The behavioral technicians and administration were amazing. They all share their story for the most part and someone like myself could identify with them very easily. They all come from experience and I really got that personal feel to it - I didn't get the feeling that they were just reading from a book - but they truly care about the patients and they show it with their actions. The only weakness is that the building was very old and they were in the middle of renovating. At the same time, I learned that I didn't want to be comfortable there - What I took away from the facility and my experience is a wealth of knowledge and that was number 1 priority. My counselor mentioned during one of our small group sessions that the Sunrise House offers a "Following the Rules" program. Meaning that all of our lives, as addicts and alcoholics, we did what we wanted to do, how we wanted to do it, and when we wanted to do it. The Sunrise House has very minor rules to get the patients used to doing things that they may not always want to do. It was to prepare us for when we were back out in the real world. If we couldn't follow the simplest of rules, like smoking in designated areas, coming to roll call on time, or even making your bed every morning, then how could we expect to follow the rules on the outside. At Sunrise House, I quickly learned that I wasn't there just to stop using drugs or alcohol, but to change my way of life. After leaving Sunrise House, my toolbox was filled and was ready to put my tools and strategies to the test. I owe the staff and administration my life - without them, recovery would not have been possible. Thank you Sunrise House - You will be forever in my heart.

SUNRISE HOUSE IS THE WORST REHAB I\'VE EVER DEALT WITH—and that\'s saying a lot. I have a long history with addiction and rehabilitation. Over the past two decades, I have helped two of my relatives and countless friends make their way through the treatment community. I myself have been a patient at three inpatient facilities catering to folks of varying income levels, from ultra-luxury to down-and-dirty-government-subsidized. Today, I\'m proud to say I\'ve been clean for four years. So: While I cannot speak at length to the quality of care from a patient\'s experience (though from what I glean that wasn\'t so hot either), I can tell you from a loved-one\'s perspective that Sunrise House was an ABJECT DISASTER of an experience. My brother recently spent 2+ weeks there and as his legal guardians with Power of Attorney who needed to be updated on his health and condition, my mother and I were only contacted by and given any consideration AT ALL during the short period before her credit card got charged at intake. During that day and half while we were choosing a facility, my phone was ringing off the hook with call after call from parent corporation AMERICAN ADDICTION CENTERS selling us on the endless healing wonders of Sunrise House! But after the Amex charge went through, everything changed. Although a HIPPA release had been signed by the patient for me and I left repeated VM messages requesting updates, NOT ONCE during the 15 days and nights did I receive a call or e-mail apprising me of his condition or recovery. When I finally got the program director on the phone to complain, she curtly informed me, \"If we spent all our time updating loved ones, we would have no time for treatment.\" To epitomize this aspect of our experience: At Day 12 of treatment, my brother\'s \"family counselor\" had yet to personally meet him or learn how to pronounce his name. During the facility-wide 75-minute \"Family Day\" I attended, this same counselor gave a rambling, obviously unplanned, incoherent talk about Scandinavian studies of addiction during which he was also unable to pronounce the word \"hypothalamus.\" It was a shocking, embarrassing, cringe-worthy excuse for a lecture. A total joke. Moreover: a standard legal letter of presence confirming my brother\'s inpatient status took 10 days, dozens of phone calls, and 6 staff members to procure. Let me repeat: 10 DAYS OF REQUESTS FOR A SIMPLE 3-LINE LETTER ON FACILITY LETTERHEAD. And to add insult to injury, the only unsolicited call I ever received from Sunrise House at all came on the day of his unplanned discharge, when on a Thursday at 3pm I was casually informed by ANOTHER staff member who had never met my brother that his insurance had denied more coverage and that I would have to come pick him up before nightfall—a direct contradiction to the intake counselor\'s assurance that we would be given \"at least one full day\'s notice prior to discharge.\" Although promised at the outset that an exit strategy for my brother would be carefully crafted involving outpatient therapy and set-up with a sober living community, NONE of that happened. Instead, he was simply booted out the door with the number of a single outpatient place scrawled on it, one that didn\'t even have availability when I called the next day! A perfect end to a perfectly awful experience. THIS PLACE IS A TOTAL DISASTER. STAY FAR AWAY.

Strengths: Hands-on approach, a wealth of amenities, and openness to working with family and friends. Results! Weaknesses: It is very expensive. A very good friend of mine with an alcohol addiction had been to a number of lesser rehab centers in the area without much results. The environment, staff, and programs did not meet expectations. However, as a last resort, family and friends put together enough funds to send him to Sunrise House to get him the treatment he deserves. The experience was worth the high cost.

Welcoming, Genuine, Empathetic &Compassionate, Great Food, Works in Tandem with 12 Step Programs, Knowledgeable and Respectful Staff, Loving Atmosphere .Funding was a downfall. Sunrise House took me in straight from County Jail and with patience, tolerance and experience began to guide me towards a way of life free from active addiction. Their staff knew how to handle an institutionalized, "street" mentality. I never felt judged or incorrigible, quite the opposite. I was given hope from other peoples experience that I was not a lost cause. For the first time, in a long time, I felt optimistic. I've been clean from all mood or mind altering substances for 7 years now and my journey started at Sunrise House. They introduced me to a 12 step program (Narcotics Anonymous) that has given me a life beyond my wildest dreams, and for that, I am forever grateful.

I am a 62 yo alcoholic female. 16 hour days (up at 5:30 a.m., up and down steps, getting written up for being 30 seconds late for a roll call (stopped to turn off a faucet someone left running in restroom), segregation of males and females ALL the time (we weren\'t even allowed to have a conversation with the guys in broad daylight other than \'Hi\'), bedtime not til 10 p.m., no reading material other than recovery, one woman called out for tapping her ring on cafeteria table, etc., etc. I could go on forever. Detox was fine, rehab was terrible. Took away my cell phone and charger, body spray, wallet, cash, and more. Had to pay to do laundry and dry it, had to pay for sodas, water and snacks, had to have a phone card for pay phones (only allowed late in the day & rarely worked), freezing rooms and common areas. Definitely NOT for an older person. Only spent 3 days in rehab, then burned out and I\'m a tough ole girl. Like a boot camp. Rules were arbitrary depending on staff. Beds were nothing but a mattress and bunky bed & flat pillows. I felt like a caged animal. Facility beautiful, but run down. Grounds were gorgeous (when we were allowed out on them, which was rare), women were 2nd class citizens. I was so stressed that it interfered with my recovery! I left AMA on Monday after staying up all night on Sunday thinking & praying on what to do. False advertising, e.g., NO pool, NO horses, NO holistic treatments, NO music, NO anything but arbitrary rules and lectures and group and other assorted garbage. Treated like children and regimented. My first AA meeting at home is tonight and just made an appointment with my therapist. I\'ll do 90/90 or more in AA.

The Sunrise Experience was my first and only rehab, I was admitted to a hospital with a .49 BAC near death. I picked up where I left off when I got out it was about 6 months down the road when I realized I wasn't going to fix this without help. My wife was instrumental in getting me to agree to it. She saved my life. After I got out, I went right to a meeting, got a Sponsor and followed his directions. Don't drink and go to meetings. He gave me the relevant sections at the time in the Big Book. Some days making 3 meetings because I had the time since I drank my job away, and with his guidance I'm still sober. Have to work the program it don't work itself. Not looking to far ahead but May 03 I celebrate 6 years never look back. I could go on and on but I'll save that for a meeting.
