Philosophy

Established in 1989, Synergy Treatment Center provides an effective one year program to individuals who have a primary alcohol and drug and/or co-occurring problem and a desire to overcome their addiction. The name Synergy is derived from the Greek word synergos, meaning a combined action or operation. Synergy has formed synergos in the Memphis community by creating an extremely effective and necessary public-private partnership model. Synergy is licensed by the State of Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities to provide residential, outpatient and intensive outpatient substance abuse services to adult men and women in need of treatment. Synergy also provides treatment to individuals with co-occurring disorders.

Meals are not provided. AA and NA are not held on site. You have to go a mile and a half to the neatest meeting. They like to throw you out then wait a few days and let you back in for an additional $800 entrance fee. You pay $200 a week and if you are behind, they take basically all of your money and don’t care that you starve, have no cigarettes or can afford tools needed for work. You cannot get money to pay people yo give you rides because you aren’t left any money. This establishment is a joke. There is no “Sponsor” at hand for those who are truly trying to get straight. . That’s not impressive to me. There is no structure. There aren’t enough washers and dryers for the amount of people there. Most rehab facilities provide meals, have support staff on hand at all times and the person is more important than money. The facility is an old run down hotel and are three families living in the dorms as well. It’s aboit mineynit rehab. I k ow because I was there, I was giving it my all.

I recommend synergy only if there are NO court issues pending. My son had court issues and Synergy was aware of this. They allowed him to attend 1 court appointment then after 6 months of successful treatment and the second court date came around they denied him this. He was forced out of synergy. Even though he was being successful and had made many gains towards his goal. I was heart broken and very disappointed. We were out of state therefore put up 5000 dollars for first six weeks of treatment and he had been successful in the next 4 months of treatment. He was forced tonleave a successful treatment program because of a mandated court date. So is the client the real focus? This made me take a second look.

An overall good program; however, they need better holistic options.

They taught me how to prioritize, taught me structure(which I needed badly) and also taught me work ethic. To be completely honest my opinion is that they don't have a weakness. That place really saved and changed my life. This is a year long program but if you really want to change your life for the better then i would recommend going to synergy. Also, the staff is there for you. They treat everyone with respect. So if you have an alcohol/drug addiction and want to change your life please don't hesitate to call them before it's too late.

Strengths: Interest in each client, individual; assistance with job post discharge; great counselors; they celebrate the clients with a very nice graduation ceremony. Weaknesses: No aftercare or follow- up after discharge; little family involvement ; some employees are not very professional in their actions. Good program where the benefits definitely outweigh the negatives.
