ABOUT DESERT COVE RECOVERY
Located on a busy commercial highway in northern Scottsdale, Desert Cove Recovery offers an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adult men and women who are struggling with alcoholism, drug addiction, or a dual diagnosis — positioning the center among the 48.4 percent of Arizona-based facilities that offer an IOP. The center specializes in treating individuals who have struggled with chronic relapse or who need something more than the typical 30-day stay in residential care. Medical detox is not available on-site, but Desert Cove can provide referrals to its local detox partners, when necessary.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Desert Cove Recovery emphasizes its commitment to a holistic approach to recovery that treats the mind, body, and spirit. The center delivers this approach through an adherence to 12-Step (which are in use at 59.2 percent of Arizona-based facilities), supplemented by some evidence-based therapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Treatment is offered between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The center is also among the 42.8 percent of Arizona-based facilities that offer dedicated programming for clients who have experienced trauma. Counseling is offered in both individual and group settings. In addition to core programming, equine therapy is offered bimonthly. Medication management may also be available to those struggling with co-occurring mental health concerns.
Desert Cove employs dedicated aftercare therapists who help clients to develop relapse-prevention plans and can provide referrals to sober-living facilities, when necessary. Graduating clients are also encouraged to attend aftercare meetings at Desert Cove, and to be active in their local 12-step community.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Alumni polled by Rehabs.com gave mostly positive feedback, with some notes of complaint.** The reviewers repeatedly credited the facility with saving their lives, and praised the center's staff and helpful programming. "Desert Cove Recovery saved my life in 2013 and I have been sober ever since. The staff here gave me the tools I needed to live a healthier happier life and I am so grateful," K.R. wrote in a representative comment. In addition, all three individuals polled on the center's counseling options and holistic offerings gave it five-star ratings on each category, and the facility's family participation received two five-star ratings and a four-star rating.
There's little overlap between the negative reviews. One reviewer wrote that the center tried to keep clients at the facility until their insurance ran out, and another wrote that treatment was effective, but prospective clients should "be ready for very restricted days."
Desert Cove Recovery also has mostly positive feedback on secondary sites at the time of this writing, with average ratings of four out of five stars based on 29 reviews on Google, 4.1 stars based on 27 opinions on Facebook (where the facility may manage its own page), and 3.5 stars based on eight reviews on Yelp (including "not recommended" reviews).[1] [2] [3]
Like Rehabs.com reviewers, the positive reviewers repeatedly thanked the center's staff and credited the program with saving or changing their lives. "My life has changed for the better! I have tried and tried, but have always failed. They gave me the tools and skills I needed to succeed," Michael wrote in a representative comment on Google.
However, the reviews also contained repeated references to subpar facilities, an unhelpful staff, and a hostile environment. "I wasn't welcomed or made to feel comfortable at all. Very unorganized, lacked professionalism and absolutely the WORSE counselors EVER!" Shawn wrote in a representative comment on Google.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
Of the three loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date, two would recommend Desert Cove and one would not. One reviewer gave the facility five out of five stars in all of the evaluated treatment metrics, including its family participation, safety and comfort, and holistic offerings. "Great facility, great staff, they saved my brother's life," Justin wrote. An anonymous reviewer praised Desert Cove Recovery's "staff, commitment, intent," and gave the facility five stars for its treatment effectiveness and its counseling options — but just one star for its family participation and exercise and leisure offerings.
Parent J.J. had a more negative experience. "At first it felt like they truly cared about our child, but in the end they seemed to only care about the almighty dollar," they wrote, giving the facility just one star for its leadership and the level of staff support it provided and two stars for its family involvement.
WHAT STAFF SAY

"Dedicated staff and helpful program," Christina wrote, giving Desert Cove Recovery five stars in all of the evaluated treatment metrics. However, J.M. wrote: "Nice facility," but added: "I would not recommend this facility to anyone needing to get sober," and gave the center just one star for its honesty and its willingness to put clients' interests first, as well as indicating that they had concerns about the quality of care offered at the center.
