ABOUT DESERT STAR ADDICTION RECOVERY CENTER
Located in the desert north of Tucson, Ariz., Desert Star Addiction Recovery Center offers outpatient treatment to adults struggling with substance us disorder, co-occurring mental health disorders, eating disorders, and sex and relationship issues.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Desert Star is among the 48.4 percent of outpatient facilities in Arizona to offer an intensive outpatient program (IOP). The facility provides four distinct programs: Oasis (for substance abuse issues), Mesquite (for eating disorders), Grace (for men with sex and intimacy disorders), and Mariposa (for women with unhealthy relationship patterns).
Across all programs, treatment plans include group and individual counseling, 12-step support meetings, psychoeducation, and process groups. The facility also offers holistic therapies such acupuncture, which is available in just 8.8 percent of Arizona treatment facilities.
Clients enrolled in Oasis, the substance abuse track, receive screening for detox and medication management. Desert Star also makes use of evidence-based modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), the latter of which is available in 62.5 percent of treatment facilities in Arizona.
Those attending the eating-disorder Mesquite program benefit from a range of additional services including nutritional consults, meal planning, community meals, and post-meal processing. The Grace program utilizes a sex addiction therapist.
All programs feature a second phase of continuing care, offering clients an additional three hours of counseling per week, for three to six months. Desert Star also offers family therapy and couples counseling.
