Skyway House's mission is to treat the whole person —mind, body, and spirit — instead of simply focusing on the symptoms of drug and alcohol addiction.     David Deichler, RAS II Director of Operations
    David Deichler has been working in the field of addiction treatment since 2002. In January of 2005 Mr. Deichler came to work for the Skyway House in the capacity of a residential counselor and over the years has had the opportunity to work in all aspects of our treatment programs including administration. This unique set of experiences has given Mr. Deichler a great understanding of the treatment we provide, the population we serve and a more in depth understanding of addiction and how it is negatively impacting the families and communities of Northern California.

ABOUT SKYWAY HOUSE

In the quiet city of Chico in Northern California, about 100 miles north of Sacramento, Skyway House offers residential and outpatient treatment to adults struggling with substance use disorder. Detoxification services are not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at Skyway House begins with a comprehensive assessment to determine the best method of treatment for each client. Clients must commit to at least 30 days of treatment but may stay for up to six months in residential care. The facility is among the 33.6 percent of rehabs in California to offer residential programming lasting longer than 30 days.

Treatment includes 12-step programming, individual and group counseling, and workshops on topics such as relapse prevention and anger management. The facility regularly hosts family activities, and family counseling is included when appropriate.

Outpatient options include a intensive outpatient program (IOP), which is a modality offered by 39.4 percent of treatment facilities in California, and an outpatient program {OP), a modality available in 63.2 percent of California treatment facilities. Both programs last 12 weeks. In addition, a free weekly aftercare group is available for graduates.

Skyway House is staffed 24/7 by medical personnel. Residents sleep in dorm-style rooms that sleep six to seven people each in bunk beds. The facility also features sprawling green space, lounge areas, and recreational areas. To date, the seven individuals polled on the matter by Rehabs.com felt the facility was well-maintained.

Of the five former clients surveyed by Rehabs.com to date, two gave Skyway House positive feedback, two gave it negative feedback, and one gave it a mixed review. The two satisfied clients reported that the facility was comfortable and the treatment was effective. "I spent 3 months there and was very satisfied," one wrote in a representative review.

The two unhappy reviewers complained about bad food and poorly trained staff, and almost all of the respondents noted that the facility lacked adequate exercise and holistic offerings.

On secondary sites, the rehab earned an average rating of 3.4 out of five stars based on five Google reviews[1] and a 4.1 out of five-star rating based on the opinions of 17 people on Facebook, which the facility may manage[2]. Comments about the rehab were mixed — some credited the facility with saving their lives. "Honestly the greatest decision I ever made," Darin wrote in a Google review representative of positive feedback.

However, others complained about untrained staff and a lack of resources. "They do not have the time to give much one on one attention. Based on the shoestring budget apparent at their program," Shellie wrote in a Facebook review representative of negative feedback.

WHAT STAFF SAY

The one staff member surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave Skyway House positive feedback and awarded it four out of five stars for its counseling options, its administrative and discharge procedures, and its affordability. The staffer noted that they would recommend the program, though they did note that the buildings were small.
