Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a highly specific, research-validated form of therapy that can help people overcome traumatic stress, anxiety and depression. With EMDR, a trained practitioner uses bilateral stimulation, eye movement and touch to stimulate parts of the brain as a patient recounts certain experiences and memories as a way to more thoroughly process uncomfortable, painful feelings.Client & Family Support Groups
Group therapy is a vital component of addiction recovery treatment, considered as important and effective (sometimes even more so) than individual therapy. Benefits include reducing isolation and loneliness and providing the opportunity to learn from others in recovery. In the addiction setting, group therapy is run by trained professionals who guide participants toward a shared goal of recovery.

- Dr. Stephen Odom, Ph.D. LMFT,CEO/President/CCOStephen Odom is a distinguished healthcare and addiction treatment professional with more than 25 years of expertise in the field. Currently, he serves as the President, CEO and Chief Clinical Officer of New Vista Behavioral Health, the parent company of Simple Recovery, Infinity Treatment Centers, and now Avalon by the Sea. Within the vast scope of his professional career, Stephen is a pioneer in the addiction treatment industry, and remains grounded by the guiding principle that people can, and do recover. Stephen holds a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Behavior from Covenant College (Lookout Mtn. GA), a Master’s in Experimental Psychology (Univ. of Tennessee), a Master’s and Doctoral Candidacy in Clinical Psychology (Palo Alto University), and a Doctorate (Ph.D.) with a focus in Healthcare Administration (Capella University). He is also an LMFT in the state of California. Within his executive leadership role, Stephen's compassionate and therapeutic approach has enabled him to connect not only with his clinical teams but each client who walks through the door.
- Poppy Carmelo, CADC llExecutive DirectorIn joining the Simple Recovery team, Poppy brings 10+ years of experience in direct substance abuse/addiction work and a contagious passion of hope in Recovery. Her gentle and honest nature allows her to balance empathy with honest communication, providing a seemingly effortless, immediate gain of trust and accountability with clients and their families. Under the scope of her professional experience, Poppy is suitable to work with various addictions and co-occurring disorders. Poppy's professional skills continue to expand in her role as Simple Recovery's Executive Director and in her pursuit to continue learning through continuing education and counseling licensure. Poppy and her son Phillip reside in Orange County, California. As a family they share their free time camping, hiking and at the beach. In addition Poppy’s personal interests and hobbies are strongly rooted in her recovery and involvement focused on bettering the world through healing, love, and faith.
