ABOUT SOUTH COAST COUNSELING, INC.
Costa Mesa, a city located in California’s Orange County, is home to South Coast Counseling, Inc. (SCC), an organization with an almost 50-year history of treating adults struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. The center provides both residential and outpatient programming, though detox services are not offered on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, clients undergo a series of comprehensive psychological tests and assessments. Based on clinical findings, on-staff therapists create a individualized treatment plan for each client.
South Coast Counseling uses the disease-model approach to treating substance abuse, employing a wide variety of therapies. These treatment methods include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) as well as cinema and art therapy. Clients participate in a mix of individual counseling, group therapy, addiction education workshops, life skills training, and 12-step groups.
According to SCC’s website, the center’s staff of counselors and therapists is led by a leadership team consisting of medical doctors, a licensed clinical psychologist, and a certified alcohol and drug counselor who is also an intervention specialist. The center has an intimate staff-to-client ratio of 3:1.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The 16-bed facility sits a few minutes from the beach in Hollywood, Florida. Clients stay in semi-private, comfortably furnished rooms in a large main residence. Healthy and nutritious meals are served family style each evening and the facility employs a professional chef. There are few luxury amenities, but residents can enjoy all the comforts of a relaxed home including wireless internet, cable TV, and laundry facilities.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
At the time of this writing, there have been two alumni reviews submitted to Rehabs.com. Both Brittany and B.V. reported positive experiences and both gave the program five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness. B.V. described the staff as “supportive and helpful” and credited the treatment they received with saving their life.
Brittany also commended the clinical staff. “You feel like family when you are here. There is a lot of staff always accessible to you from nurses to counselors to therapists. You really get the feeling that they care about you and your recovery,” she wrote.
On the facility’s Facebook page, which it may have the ability to manage, 24 reviewers all gave five-star ratings. One alum, R.W. wrote “South coast Counceling saved my life... SCC allowed me to lay down a foundation of sobriety and take the right steps the right way, while also having fun doing it too! I highly recommend scc to anyone who wants help and is serious about getting sober! Also they have an incredible staff who really does care about the clients.”
On Google, four individuals gave the facility an average rating of 2.5 out of five stars.  A.A. recommended the facility and wrote, “South Coast Counseling is an incredible addiction treatment facility. They helped me get my life back on track.”
On Yelp, the facility has an overall rating of 4.5 out of five stars based on six reviews. One alum, M.H., who gave the five stars, noted that he has been to rehab several times but felt that South Coast Counseling gave him the most effective treatment. He wrote, “If I was considering a substance abuse treatment program for myself or a loved one, I would undoubtedly chose South Coast Counseling above all others. Those who attend there are transformed and revitalized. It is a place where miracles happen.”
One day of treatment costs $500, one month is priced at $15,000, and 90 days costs $45,000. Some financial assistance is available, and the center accepts a number of private insurance companies, including Aetna, Cigna, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.
