    Jess BeckClinical Director, LCSW
    Jessica comes to Ascend with over 10 years of experience in mental health treatment with both adolescents and adults. As the former Acting Director of the Addictive Behaviors Clinic at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center, she developed expertise in the field of evidenced-based addiction treatment. At the VA medical center, Jessica trained colleagues on therapeutic practices and provided treatment to hundreds of at-risk veterans. Jessica also gained extensive experience in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and trauma while working at medical facilities, community-based outpatient programs, and a residential treatment center. Jessica is passionate about helping her clients identify their personal values, strengthen their resiliency, and learn ways to effectively manage emotions. Her therapeutic approach is holistic in nature and builds upon her client’s strengths to help them live a full and meaningful life. Jessica received her Masters in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California.

    Dr. Egan studied neuroscience at the University of Texas before moving on to medical school at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). After having her first child at the end of medical school, she became interested in child behavior and development, and pursued residency and Child and Adolescent fellowship at UCLA, specializing in the early diagnosis and treatment of childhood disorders and working with families to improve communication and relationships in order to help children thrive. Since her early training, Dr. Egan has devoted part of her work to low-income community clinics in the Los Angeles area.

Located in Encino, Calif., Ascend Healthcare is a luxury residential rehab center for adolescents struggling with substance misuse and mental health disorders. Ascend's family-centered personalized recovery programs integrate evidence-based treatment with creative therapies.

Ascend is one of 279 rehabs in California (comprising 21.3 percent of all rehabs in the state) to offer a program specifically tailored to adolescents. This facility is also one of 197 rehabs in the state (15 percent) to offer detox in a residential setting.


The focus at Ascend is on holistic rehabilitation involving each client's whole family when possible. Teens receive individualized therapy twice per week, group therapy weekly, family therapy weekly, and group family therapy weekly. Families can expect daily communication with both staff members and their loved one.

According to the website and information provided to Rehabs.com by the facility, treatment team members are prepared to provide cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapies (DBT), trauma recovery-oriented eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and expressive therapies, including art, music, and theater. Ascend also offers treatment tailored to LGBT+ individuals.

Dual diagnosis treatment is tailored to meet each individual's needs and circumstances, addressing mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, and OCD. Additionally, accredited teachers work with individual clients to pursue their educational goals and explore their potential.

The facility's extensive aftercare program features home visits, intensive outpatient treatment, and referrals for sober living and support groups.


Among the treatment staff listed on the facility's website are master's-level licensed therapists, a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, a medical doctor with special interest in nutrition, a doctoral-level social worker and educator, and a registered yoga teacher.

Ascend is one of 182 rehabs in California (comprising 13.9 percent of all rehabs in the state) to be certified by the Joint Commission.


Website photographs feature bright, modern accommodations with amenities for several physical activities, such as a swimming pool and a basketball court. Inside, shared bedrooms and bathrooms appear spacious, lounge areas have plush furnishings, and a workout room is well-supplied.

In keeping with the emphasis on creative arts in therapy, elective courses are offered in photography, music production, fashion design, and creative writing. An executive chef also offers cooking classes.


Though Rehabs.com has not received any feedback from alumni, eight loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave unanimously positive feedback. All eight gave five-star ratings to most aspects of the facility and indicated that they were very likely to recommend it to others. Particular praise was directed at the "caring staff" and "trained mentors." Two noted the highly qualified staff, describing Ascend as being "run by dedicated and passionate people." Additionally, as of the time of this writing, Ascend holds an average rating of 4.5 out if five stars on Google based on eight reviews.[2]


Though Ascend's website does not list specific costs, it does note that the facility accepts a variety of insurance plans. To date, the six loved ones polled on the matter approved of the facility's cost.
