Facility Highlights

  • The Discovery Model
  • Energy Healing
  • Relapse Prevention

  • Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.
  • Detox

Though not all rehab facilities offer “medical detoxification,” all people with an addiction to drugs or alcohol will experience intense physical and emotional changes and discomfort as their bodies react to withdrawal of the addictive substance. Many people use the term “detox” to refer to the period of time (ranging from a few days to a week) when the body is reacting to an addict’s decision to stop using.

Rehabs 360 Guide

Located in the community of Encino, Calif., 20 miles north of Los Angeles, Sanctuary Treatment Center is a luxurious residential program for women struggling with chemical dependency or co-occurring mental health difficulties. If necessary, Sanctuary Treatment Center offers medical detoxification services on-site. As a gender-specific residential facility, it is part of the 736 (51.5 percent) of facilities in California to offer specialized treatment for adult women.

Sanctuary Treatment Center’s gender-specific programming utilizes a combination of 12-step practices, evidence-based approaches, trauma-informed care, and holistic treatments.

Major elements of the facility’s programming include individual and intimate group counseling sessions, as well as family therapy and educational groups. Utilizing rational-emotive behavioral therapy (REBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), these counseling sessions help to develop skills for regulating emotion, forming healthy boundaries, improving communication skills, and applying life skills. Clients also participate in creative arts therapy and experiential and psychodynamic process groups, such as anger expression, empty chair, and role playing.

In addition, clients attend psychoeducational classes to learn about the disease model of addiction, relapse prevention techniques, and identifying triggers. Clients also attend on- and off-site 12-step meetings. To educate loved ones on addiction and the process of recovery, Sanctuary Treatment Center invites family and friends to attend weekly family groups, which address issues of codependency and the family’s unique role in recovery.

Along with clinical and traditional treatment approaches, Sanctuary Treatment Center emphasizes health and wellness as integral to recovery. Clients participate in regular gym outings, on-site yoga, and therapeutic massage. Residents also have the opportunity to enroll in Rock for Recovery, a well-recognized music therapy program, and attend religious services.

Sanctuary Treatment Center’s treatment team consists of licensed substance abuse counselors and recovery specialists. The facility also employs a team of chefs and support staff. Due to Sanctuary Treatment Center’s six-client occupancy, the facility is able to provide a very low client-to-staff ratio. Two individuals polled at the time of writing had positive opinions about the staff's level of training and experience, awarding the metric a perfect five- and a high four-star rating.

Sanctuary Treatment Center’s upscale, six-bed facility features comfortable communal rooms, high-end furnishings, a yoga studio, and an on-site pool. A team of private chefs prepare nutritious cuisine customized to each client’s preference and any dietary restrictions. In addition, clients have access to a premier gym and enjoy regular boat outings on a nearby lake.

Both individuals polled by Rehabs.com gave the facility's accommodations and amenities a perfect five-star rating. An anonymous Rehabs.com review didn't leave any ratings, but in their commentary offered specific praise for the facility's chef.
