I was hesitant to go into inpatient treatment, but boy was I wrong to worry. To a person everyone working at The House is earnestly invested and involved in helping clients recover. Sure I had some staff who I had friction with, but I always felt my recovery took precedence over personality differences. Bedding and infrastructure is a bit handed down and scuffed up, but everything is clean, as are the public and shared personal spaces. I did not have one bad meal in 2 months- NOT ONE !!! Amaaazing Latin American home cooked food that was healthy and tasted really really good. Alameda county decided I didn’t need 90 days and clients told me they could hear my counselor fighting for me to get a full program. That moved me- that I wasn’t just another meatbag to them, even if I am to the government…I give El Chante TEN out of five STARS !!!
The staff plain and simple was a strength. Most of the staff are recovering addicts who change their life around, went to school, and now want to help others. They do not act condescending, but more like people who know and want to Make a difference. They showed such success with my family member that it's hard to say something bad. Maybe offering more holistic activities like massage and yoga more often than they did would have been nice. But what they did worked so it's hard to not-pick. My family member was struggling. I didn't think anyone would help. I went to them and sent my family member there on a recommendation. I had heard they were strong but fair, and strong is what my family member needed. My family member was not happy At first, but in my opinion it's because it was working. I now have them back in my life and sober. Never been more grateful.
Most everyone there is age 20 to 30 and have considerable experience in going back to rehab over and over and over again. I was new to this and really needed some help for PTSD - they went through all my bags and took my ipad, ipod, eyeglasses, wallet, cash, listerine, cologne, the list goes on. I had to beg them for my cell phone which I did get back while I was there. They took my insurance card and did not return it. I had to order a new one. They LIE about everything.
