ABOUT ABC RECOVERY CENTER
Located in the desert city of Indio, Calif., ABC Recovery Center offers a full spectrum of addiction treatment programs for adult men and women. Clients may undergo medical detox (since ABC Recovery is among the 15 percent of California rehabs that offer medical detox in a residential setting), as well as residential care, several intensities of outpatient treatment, and sober-living facilities.
ABC is also among the 29.7 percent of California-based facilities that offer some dedicated programming for pregnant or postpartum women. At ABC, this takes the form of a perinatal residential program. ABC Recovery is also among the 33.8 percent of facilities in California that operate on a private, for-profit basis.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Admission begins with an initial assessment that reviews the client's medical history, mental health status, and any legal issues. If detox is necessary, clients are referred to the center's sub-acute program, where they're monitored 24 hours a day, and their vitals are taken every few hours. Clients typically remain in detox for between three and 10 days.
Residential treatment is rooted in 12-step principles and lasts 30 to 90 days, positioning ABC among the 33.6 percent of California rehabs that offer residential treatment lasting longer than 30 days. An individual therapist and a certified addiction counselor collaborate to create an individualized treatment program. Clients in the program participate in daily group therapy, continuing education, relapse prevention training, experiential therapies, and weekly individual therapy.
Pregnant women can enroll in the perinatal residential program, which includes the offerings of primary residential treatment as well as medical care and parenting classes.
Clients who have completed residential treatment but need to taper into outpatient care gradually can enroll for individualized day treatment. Clients must attend outpatient meetings and live in a bungalow owned by ABC. They may secure employment or attend school during this period of treatment.
An intensive outpatient program (IOP) lasts four months, with meetings three to five nights weekly. Treatment is based on the Matrix Model and includes group and family therapy as well as relapse prevention. An alumni association also offers regular activities such as barbecues and breakfasts.
