Akua Mind & Body

20271 SW BIRCH ST SUITE 200, Newport Beach, California, 92660
Psychodynamic, client-centered clinicians and trained therapists Holistic approach that truly honors the individual’s mind, body and spirit through yoga, reiki, harp, dream work, shadow work, and unconventional approaches which get to the heart of the pain and suffering of the addictive cycle. Family systems, codependency, trauma and inner child work helps clients detach from shame and identify origins of their low self-esteem or self-worth. Akua is a family that helps model a functional, healthy family to our clients. We choose our staff based on their ability to provide an environment of healing and compassion. We help clients run a healthy AA/12-step program of recovery by not “forcing” the principles on them, but helping them see how lacking the principle of the programs are what keeps them sick. We keep groups very small and process oriented to get to the root of their disease, instead of 20-30 in a group.

Facility Highlights

  • Group Trauma Therapy
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
  • Individual Psychotherapy

  • Holistic Therapy

Facilities that offer “holistic therapy” see and treat patients in the context of their entire lives and health status. They treat the “whole person,” not just the addiction.
  • Detox

Though not all rehab facilities offer “medical detoxification,” all people with an addiction to drugs or alcohol will experience intense physical and emotional changes and discomfort as their bodies react to withdrawal of the addictive substance. Many people use the term “detox” to refer to the period of time (ranging from a few days to a week) when the body is reacting to an addict’s decision to stop using.

Rehabs 360 Guide

A program of Akua, a drug and alcohol addiction treatment facility in Southern California, Mahalo is a state-licensed and Joint Commission accredited detox facility for men addicted to, heroin, meth, Vicodin, and other substances.

The gender-specific detox process at Mahalo consists of three separate phases: evaluation, stabilization, and continuing care. In evaluation, men are assessed for the severity of their substance abuse as well as for any present co-occurring mental health disorders. The stabilization phase uses medication and psychosocial interventions to facilitate a steady and safe withdrawal. Following stabilization, men work together with their counselor to determine the next step, be it residential, intensive outpatient (IOP), or traditional outpatient care.

Additional offerings include trauma and music therapy.

Mahalo is overseen by a licensed vocational nurse who has clinical experience in psychiatric, surgical, pediatric and other areas.

While at Mahalo, men stay in large, shared rooms with simple, pleasant décor and high ceilings. Depending on their energy level while in detox, men can practice yoga or mindfulness, or, weather permitting, go for a swim in the outdoor pool. A private chef prepares “brain healthy meals” daily.

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, affiliated friends or family members, or staff.

To date, Akua as an organization has an excellent average rating of 4.6 out of five stars from 18 Google reviewers. They helped me to be as comfortable as possible throughout my detox.”[1]

Mahalo is in-network with Blue Cross/Anthem and accepts other major PPO plans. Private pay options are also available.
