  • Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.
  • Medical Detoxification

Drugs and alcohol have widespread effects throughout your body, including but not limited to the addiction and/or physical/psychological dependence that develops with substance abuse over time. Many organ systems are affected by addiction and will react to withdrawal. The term “medical detoxification” means that there is a trained and licensed medical professional onsite to monitor your vital signs and protect your physical and emotional health as your body goes through withdrawal.

Rehabs 360 Guide

Founded in 1992 and located in a residential neighborhood two miles from downtown Riverside, Calif., 10 Acre Ranch offers residential and outpatient treatment to adults struggling with substance use disorder or a dual diagnosis. The facility also provides medical detox, which is available in 15 percent of non-hospital treatment facilities in California.

Treatment plans are individualized to fit each client’s needs. The residential program is 12-step based and lasts 30, 60, or 90 days. It utilizes a social-model approach that prioritizes group counseling within its intimate intake of six clients at a time.

One-on-one therapy, nutritional planning, and stress and anger management therapy are offered, and all clients are educated on the nature of addiction. When appropriate, families are invited to participate in counseling.

Outpatient options include a partial hospitalization program (PHP), which is a treatment level offered by 18.5 percent of California treatment facilities, and an intensive outpatient (IOP), which is available in 39.4 percent of California treatment facilities. Both levels are recommended to clients step-down levels of care after completing residential treatment.

According to the facility’s website, 10 Acre Ranch has a staff-to-client ratio of 1:4. The treatment team includes medical doctors, nurses, licensed therapists, certified addiction counselors, and support staff.

The 10 Acre Ranch is a six-bed facility that offers yoga, horses, and plenty of outdoor space for recreational activities such as softball and hiking.

Of the 10 former clients surveyed by Rehabs.com to date, the former clients offered mixed opinions: four provided positive feedback and six provided negative feedback. Alumni who were happy with their experience described the rehab as an effective and highly structured environment for recovery. "I really feel they prepared me for life in the outside world with their structured approach for my addiction treatment," K.K. wrote in a review representative of positive feedback.

Unhappy alumni complained about unhelpful staff and misleading marketing. "The only thing that made it a ranch was the dirt," Jay wrote in a review representative of negative feedback. "No animals, no pool, understaffed, and incompetent... It does Not have a 4:1 patient:employee ratio."

On Google[1], the facility earned an average rating of 4.5 out of five stars based on 39 reviews. The majority of former clients who left feedback praised the rehab for its effective treatment, including Brian who wrote: "I could not have picked a better place to embark on my journey in recovery. All of my physical, mental and spiritual needs have been met at this location."

The two loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, both parents of former clients, gave 10 Acre Ranch positive feedback. They indicated that the treatment was successful for their sons and that the staff were helpful and kind. "I\'m so grateful to the staff at The Ranch for helping him get thru the difficulties and overcoming the challenges facing the newly rehabbed," C.A. wrote in a representative review.

Austin, the sole staffer surveyed by Rehabs.com to date, awarded the facility five out of five stars across almost all evaluated metrics, including exercise and leisure activities, family participation, cleanliness, counseling options, affordability, and treatment of co-occurring disorders. The only area that the reviewer noted as weak was the facility's 12-step implementation, which received just one out of five stars. "I would highly recommend the 10 Acre Ranch," he wrote.

The 10 Acre Ranch accepts most insurance policies as well as self-pay. Costs start at $416 per day, $12,500 per month, and $37,500 for 90 days. Financing options and sliding fee scale are available.
