Rehabs 360 Guide

Brisas Recovery and Wellness Center is an addiction treatment facility in San Diego, Calif., offering an intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP) for adults struggling with substance misuse disorders. Brisas specialize in drug, alcohol, and process addictions such as sex, gambling and overeating, as well as co-occurring conditions such as ADHD, bipolar, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Brisas is located blocks from the Pacific Ocean in the seaside community of La Jolla.

Prior to treatment, each client undergoes a medical and clinical evaluation, as well as a comprehensive psychosocial assessment, to establish a customized treatment plan. The program lasts anywhere from four to 12 weeks based on the client's needs.

The weekly schedule is comprised of 10 total hours of substance misuse treatment, nine of which include a combination of group and family therapy, according to their website. The other hour is an individual, one-on-one therapy session.

Brisas IOP uses the harm reduction model as well as a strengths-based method that puts clients at the center of their own recovery. In general, the center espouses a holistic, biopsychosocial approach to treatment. The center primarily uses evidence-based modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), biofeedback, and motivational enhancement therapy (MET).

Clients also participate in relapse prevention training, substance misuse education, and family education and support. Holistic options offered at Brisas include mindfulness, stress management training, acupuncture, massage, and creative arts therapies.

Aftercare and relapse prevention services are also available, including access to 12-step and SMART Recovery programs. While Brisas does not offer detoxification or inpatient treatment, according to their website, the center does collaborate with local detox and sober living facilities and can coordinate admission and provide daily transportation to and from these facilities.

According to the Brisas website, the team includes an M.D. board-certified in addiction medicine, a clinical psychologist, and a team of licensed psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists, all with extensive experience in treating various addictions and co-existing psychological conditions.
