Rehabs 360 Guide

Located in Sacramento, Calif., Cedar Point Recovery provides individualized treatment to adults that combines evidence-based and holistic therapies. The rehab center coordinates with local sober living facilities to house clients enrolled in its partial hospitalization program. The facility also offers step-down outpatient programs and aftercare support.

Specialized programming for professionals and detoxification services are available. Cedar Point is operated by Sprout Health Group, a national addiction treatment provider with headquarters and outpatient programs at its Advanced Health and Education facility in New Jersey.

To begin the assessment process, clients first undergo a 10- to 20-minute phone consultation. Admission can often be arranged within a day, and its PHP with sober housing typically runs from 30 to 90 days.

Clients participate in a full day of programming, which includes trauma-informed individual, group, and family counseling sessions, and clients are also immersed into 12-step fellowship. While cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the central modality used at Cedar Point Recovery, several other approaches are utilized, including mindfulness training and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to address trauma.

Among the holistic therapy offerings are yoga, equine therapy, and meditation. Clients who have co-occurring disorders receive integrated dual diagnosis treatment, which may include medication management to address mental health symptoms.

The intensive outpatient program (IOP), typically recommended following completion of PHP, meets for up to nine hours per week, usually for 16 weeks. Once a client completes IOP, case managers help them form an effective extended-care plan to support relapse prevention. Aftercare is also supported through Cedar Point Recovery's alumni association activities.

Under the direction of a chief operating officer, who holds a doctorate in clinical psychology, Cedar Point Recovery’s treatment team is comprised of master's-level counselors, case managers, licensed alcohol and other drug counselors, and a dietitian. The facility is one of the 182 (13.9 percent) Joint Commission-accredited treatment facilities in the state.

Cedar Point Recovery arranges supportive housing for clients, which includes a gym membership, comfortable indoor and outdoor communal areas, and, on some sites, a swimming pool. Clients also receive meals customized to meet their dietary preferences.

The facility's website notes that visitation and phone use can be arranged following an initial blackout period and at least one family session. Smoking is allowed in designated times and places.

At the time of this writing, 16 alumni polled by Rehabs.com offered highly positive feedback. More than half of the reviewers specifically mentioned the facilities, describing the center's settings as comfortable and beautiful. “They make your stay as comfortable as possible,” wrote Joshua, while Kent praised the nutrition and "plush" amenities.

Alumni also praised the staff, whom alumni characterized as caring, knowledgeable, and responsive to individual needs. Treatment highlights included increased self-awareness, life skills, and understanding of addiction.

On Google, Cedar Point Recovery has an average rating of four out of five stars based on 49 reviews.[1] Reviewers noted that the staff is “caring and professional,” with “5 star quality” food and effective treatment. However, there was also a number of negative reviews that claimed that the positive reviews were fake.

The sole family member polled by Rehabs.com to date reported a negative experience with Cedar Point Recovery. Leanne, the daughter of a client, gave one out of five stars for most aspects of the program, including the qualifications of the staff, family participation, and counseling options. She depicted the facility as chaotic and expressed confusion about why her mother was released early.

Feedback provided to Rehabs.com by five Cedar Point Recovery staff members was extremely positive. Their ratings indicated that 12-step and faith-based treatment modalities were not central to the facility's programming. Four of the five reviewers agreed with alumni who highlighted the program's accommodation of client needs and preferences, while one cited this as a weakness.

Holistic Offerings: 5/5
Family Participation: 5/5
Counseling Options: 5/5

On Indeed, Cedar Point Recovery had an average rating of 2.3 out of five stars from 12 reviews to date.[2] On Glassdoor, the average rating was 2.6 out of five stars.[3] While a few reviews provide positive feedback about the compensation and the environment, current and former employees tended to provide negative feedback about everything else. One former anonymous employee wrote: “This company is Unethical, unprofessional and unorganized. Greed rules.”

Cedar Point Recovery accepts private insurance, which is only accepted at 56 percent of California’s facilities. The facility’s intake coordinator can help clients to understand their level of insurance coverage to locate third-party financing options, if necessary.
