Located in sunny San Jose, Calif, Positive Progression Inc. provides residential and outpatient treatment for clients seeking treatment for addiction and/or a co-occurring disorders. Positive Progression, Inc. offers medical detox and is among the 22% of California facilities to offer Suboxone treatments. Subutex is also available.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment at Positive Progressions, Inc. begins with an initial assessment to identify each client’s treatment needs. The facility offers free screenings for a range of behavioral disorders including substance abuse and mental health disorders. The results of the assessment are used to develop an individualized treatment plan for each client.
Positive Progression Inc. utilizes traditional and evidence-based therapy methods to construct treatment plans. These include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which is utilized through individual, group, and family counseling sessions.
The 12-step model of recovery is also used at the facility. Clients are encouraged to participate in weekly meetings, as well as to continue in a community-based group after the completion of the treatment program.
Specialized treatment options are available for common behavioral and co-occurring disorders. Some of these disorders include anxiety, codependency, grief, and loss. Clients work with counselors to address behavioral patterns related to these conditions in order to reduce their impact.
In terms of holistic options, the facility also provides methods of addressing the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of recovery. Clients work with a nutritionist and fitness therapists to develop the necessary plans to improve clients’ physical conditions. These may include related therapy types like adventure and animal-assisted therapy.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The facility has a staff-to-client ratio of 3:1. The treatment team includes a medical doctor with more than 35 years experience working in the addiction field, as well as a master's-level therapist specializing in anxiety, certified alcohol and drug counselors, a California Association for Alcohol and Drug educator, a licensed practical nurse, and certified counseling technician.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY
At the time of this writing, the one alum provided feedback to Rehabs.com about her experience at Positive Progression. The alum gave five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, and meals and nutrition. The alum gave positive feedback about the quality “organic food,” “one-on-one attention” from staff,” “nice pool,” and exercise opportunities.
Feedback from alumni on third-party review sites varies widely. On Google reviews, Positive Progression Inc. earned a perfect average rating of five out of five stars from 26 reviews to date.[1] Alumni appreciated the small group size, with a “6 bed max,” and the “super”, “friendly and accommodating” staff. Alumni gave specific praise for the “12 step and CBT combined approach,” personalized treatment, and the “tools and skills” taught. On Facebook, which the facility can manage, the facility has five perfect five-star ratings to date.[2]
However, on Yelp, the feedback from 35 individuals is extremely polarized (both in recommended and "not recommended" reviews).[3][4] Ten of the reviews are extremely negative, though many of the reviews are older. Negative reviews indicated that the program did not meet their expectations as a 12-step program. R.O. wrote that “When I first got here they gave me a packet of assignments to complete ,, not once the whole 30 days I was there did they go over ANY of the assignments.” Many reviews include mentions of the “childish staff” “run by interns.”
WHAT LOVED ONES SAY
To date, the sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com provided positive feedback about his nephew’s experience at Positive Progression. The loved one gave five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness. He wrote how the staff was helpful “experts” and helped him get to the “exact cause” behind the drug use to successfully reach sobriety.
On CiteHealth, Positive Progression Inc has three positive and one negative review at the time of this writing.[5] One loved one described how the program was highly effective for their sister. The anonymous loved one would recommend the facility to others and wrote how the staff “really care about the clients.”
FINANCING
The facility accepts some private insurance, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and United Healthcare. Financial assistance is not available through the facility. However, all out-of-network insurance plans are accepted, and help is available to ensure that you get as much of your treatment covered as possible.
