  • Greg Doss, CATC
    Greg Doss, CATCPresident, Founder
    Greg opened his home and heart to alcoholics and addicts in 2003. He is a Certified Addictions Treatment Counselor (CATC) and a member of CAADE (California Association for Alcohol and Drug Educators). Over the last 10 years Greg has fostered the growth of Ocean Hills Recovery into one of the most respected and effective treatment centers in the area and has been working with people with addictions since March of 2001. Greg believes in a holistic approach to recovery. His focus is on drug alcohol addiction treatment with a combination 12 Step work, therapy and counseling, and the rejuvenation of the body through healthful eating and exercise. He has designed his program to foster a family-like atmosphere and believes that people in recovery are just beginning their lives. He encourages the people he works with to learn to enjoy life in sobriety. Greg is married to Nicole; they have two adorable sons together and an energetic yellow Labrador Retriever.

    Nicole earned her Master’s degree in marriage and family therapy and is a doctoral intern at California School of Professional Psychology. Nicole graduated cum laude from the University of California, Irvine in June of 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. While there, she received honors recognition by Psi Chi and Golden Key honor societies. Nicole has been working with alcoholics and addicts in our California drug and alcohol rehab center as an advisor and counselor since 2004. She is passionate about providing quality counseling and care to her clients. Her main focus is on integrating the 12 Step and disease models of addiction with experiential therapeutic theory. She is married to Greg; they have two adorable sons together and an energetic yellow Labrador Retriever.

Located four miles from the beach in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Ocean Hills Recovery offers residential treatment, a dual diagnosis program, and sober living facilities for adults struggling with chemical dependency. The facility is also among the 15 percent of facilities in the state to offer non-hospital residential detox.


To help individualize treatment, clients may undergo an initial behavioral and mental health assessment upon intake. According to the center’s website, residential treatment at Ocean Hills Recovery lasts 30, 60, or 90 days, which combines the principles and practices of 12-Step with a range of evidence-based psychotherapy approaches.

Ocean Hills Recovery utilizes various treatment modalities, including group and individual counseling, family therapy, relapse prevention training, and life skills training. Additional amenities include yoga classes, home-cooked meals, art therapy, beach and movie outings, and access to a fitness center. Medication management may also be available to dually diagnosed clientele.

The center also operates transitional living residences in Dana Point, Calif. A member of Ocean Hills Recovery’s staff manages each sober living home. Residents in this program are expected to follow house rules, are responsible for some household chores, and regularly attend 12-step meetings.


Ocean Hill Recovery’s website notes staff members include a psychiatrist, two clinical psychologists, master’s-level therapists, certified addiction counselors, and a licensed practical nurse. It is part of the 27.9 percent of facilities in California to be CARF-accredited. To date, the four individuals polled by Rehabs.com concerning the matter appreciated the staff's aptitude.

Ocean Hills Recovery’s website indicates that it operates two houses for detoxification, plus three homes to facilitate the men’s, women’s, and co-ed residential programs. Photographs published on the facility’s website show comfortable, family-style homes with shared bedrooms and full kitchens. Images also indicated that some facilities feature gardens or patios. The four individuals polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing concerning the matter praised the cleanliness of facilities.

The five alumni that were surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mostly positive reviews. Of the five alumni polled, four gave Ocean Hills Recovery five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, while the other alum gave three stars for this metric. Mary submitted a glowing review, offering a five-star rating concerning the likelihood she'd recommend the facility to others. “I got a new lease on life at Ocean Hills Recovery,” she wrote. “I arrived broken, and the clients, under the watchful eyes of the staff, put me back together again.”

One alum rated the center well for accommodations, meals, and treatment effectiveness. “A lot of experience and success with treating people with dependancy,” they wrote. Offering perfect five-star ratings for the amount of family participation and discharge planning, another alum added: "They were able to get my addiction under control within a couple months, I'm very grateful."

Reviews on third-party sites were extremely positive. Out of eleven reviewers on Google, ten gave perfect five out of five-star reviews and the remaining individual gave four stars.[1] On Facebook, where the facility may manage its own page, 41 people gave an average rating of 4.9 out of five stars.[2] "The expertise and knowledge of the staff is absolutely outstanding" wrote A.R. in a representative review on Google. "I was hopeless and had nothing and no one and now I have everything! Thank you OHR for saving my life!"


The three loved ones polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing also provided positive reviews, and all three loved one gave five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness. Two loved ones gave perfect five-star ratings for family participation, the facility's ability to treat co-occurring disorders, and discharge planning. "I am so grateful for their services and the attentive staff," one parent wrote in a representative review.


According to Ocean Hills Recovery’s website, the center accepts numerous private insurance policies, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, and United. In California, only 56 percent of facilities in the state accept private insurance. The facility’s website also states that other financial options may be available for uninsured clients. To date, the three individuals polled on the matter gave four- and five-star ratings for the facility's affordability.
