Rehabs 360 Guide

Located on 28 acres of mountainside in Watsonville, Calif., Elevate Addiction Services is one of California’s 471 private, for-profit residential drug and alcohol treatment facility for adults. The facility offers a holistic alternative to traditional 12-Step treatment, and most clients stay for an average of 90 days. Elevate Addiction Services operates at facilities that were formerly owned by a nonprofit company with ties to the Scientology-related Narconon program. Elevate is an entirely separate entity from Narconon and has no ties to Scientology.

Elevate Addiction’s treatment philosophy does not view addiction as a disease, but rather as a manifestation of deeper emotional, physical, and/or spiritual issues. The program is designed to address the underlying causes of addiction in order to address the addiction itself. The facility uses a holistic approach to treatment in order to address these causes.

The facility is one of California’s 335 facilities that offers a short-term detox program. After detox, clients must be willing to wean off any medication that the facility does not deem medically necessary, including anti-depressants.

The four-phase program offers individual counseling, daily educational groups, family therapy, and regular SMART Recovery meetings. Clients also participate in holistic and experiential therapies including yoga and hiking activities, as well as individually tailored fitness routines once they are physically ready.

Consultations with a nutritionist are also provided, and essential oils are used to help clients deal with stress and/or common aches and pains. Regular recreational outings include off-campus trips to the beach and forest.

A free aftercare program offers counseling and support to clients once they graduate. At the end of the residential program, clients work with case managers to develop an individualized aftercare program. Unlike the other phases of treatment, the aftercare program does not have a time limit. Clients have access to the program indefinitely.

Many of the facility’s staff members are in recovery themselves. All counselors are licensed and certified in accordance with multiple accreditations. The facility is a part of the 19% of U.S. facilities that are accredited by the Joint Commission, but it is also accredited by the California Department of Health Care Services and the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers.

Offering scenic views of Monterey Bay and Big Sur, the tranquil, 150-bed ranch-style campus has forested walking trails, landscaped gardens, a sauna, a gym, and an outdoor swimming pool. The facility has a relaxed, ranch-style that is designed to help clients destress between treatments.

At the time of this writing, 31 alumni provided feedback about Elevate to Rehabs.com, though 28 only gave feedback on the website and did not complete more extensive surveys. Most of the feedback is positive, though the negative feedback details some serious concerns.

Alumni praised the program, describing staff as “extremely caring and compassionate” and treatment as “a really cool holistic program with a lot of helpful life skills and emphasis on fitness and nutrition.” Alumni expressed gratitude for its holistic offerings: “They have art classes, music, exercise so you can really take advantage of things that appeal to you and keep you busy so you don't just sit and get inside your head all the time.” Alumni also provided positive feedback about the “friendships formed here.”

The five loved ones polled by Rehabs.com gave Elevate mostly positive reviews, except for K.H., who reported that their sister had a terrible experience at the rehab, echoing alumni complaints regarding its lack of treatment for co-occurring disorders, despite assuring K.H. they would be addressed.

But the other four reviews reported that their family and friends had positive experiences. The loved ones gave positive feedback about the staff and the facility itself, such as Dan who wrote: “[The] facility is beautiful - on about 30 acres with an ocean view and there is a lot of space to move around…”

On Google, Elevate Addiction Services earned an average of 4.3 out of five stars from 29 reviews to date.[1] Alumni generally provided positive feedback on how the program focused on “emotions” and getting to “know myself/values.” Other alumni indicated that the staff “are all amazing, empathetic and compassionate.”

On YellowPages.com, the facility earned three five out of five star reviews.[3] Alumni provide compliments for the staff and the facility itself. As one alum wrote, “The enter is aesthetic, the rooms are comfortable, and the amenities are great.”

The two staff members who were surveyed by Rehabs.com about Elevate to date both gave the facility positive feedback and five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness. “I've worked with various addiction treatments for over 20 years now and this program encompasses the best of everything I've ever come across,” wrote W.T., while Dan told Rehabs.com: “Elevate is a modern and new approach to addiction treatment. It is a non-12-Step approach utilizing holistic and empowering therapies designed not only to stay sober, but to live the life one was meant to live.” The staff members did not fill out a more comprehensive survey.

Fees for treatment at Elevate Addiction start at $37,000 for 90 days. The facility also accepts numerous private insurance plans, including Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Cigna.

Elevate Addiction focuses on a range of therapy options that are arts-influenced. Music and art therapy sessions often lead to performances and exhibition work for clients and the facility promotes their work on social media channels. Clients can be seen on the facility’s social media pages participating in a variety of activities that they would not otherwise find themselves involved in, and with positive results.
