Rehabs 360 Guide

Crossroads Recovery Centers is a dual diagnosis facility in La Habra, Calif., 25 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, that offers multiple levels of care - detoxification, residential, outpatient treatment, and aftercare - for adults ages 18 and older facing substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders.

Offering stays of 30, 60, and 90 days, Crossroads Recovery Center is one of just 440 (33.6 percent) of facilities in the state with residential services that extend past 30 days.

According to its website, Crossroads Recovery Centers uses a “modern, all-therapy, non 12 step approach.” The process begins with an assessment to determine an appropriate level of care, at which point clients meet with certified medical and behavioral health staff members. Those experiencing withdrawal from alcohol, heroin, opiates, and other substance may be recommended for 24-hour medically monitored detoxification. Crossroads also offers a “Detox Only Program” that lasts seven to 10 days.

Treatment aims to address a client’s psychological, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs through one-on-one and group therapy sessions grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational enhancement therapy (MET), and SMART Recovery. The center also makes use of dialectical behavior therapy, an approach used at just 50.3 percent of facilities statewide, as well as education, recreation, and medication management.

For those seeking treatment they can incorporate into their weekly schedules, Crossroads offers several options. There’s a partial hospitalization (day treatment) program that meets six hours daily, five to seven days per week, an intensive outpatient (IOP) track that meets three hours a day, three to five days per week, and general outpatient care. Similar to its residential services, Crossroads’ outpatient care consists of individual or group therapy, medication management, drug education, relapse prevention, and aftercare planning.

Along with its traditional services, Crossroads offers individualized outpatient behavioral health treatment plans, available as short-term (six to 16 weeks) or long-term (more than 16 weeks) care. The center encourages family participation and offers couples counseling, a service that’s available at just 53.5 percent of facilities statewide. Clients also focus on developing a sober support network and have opportunity to connect with local community groups.

The treatment team at Crossroads Recovery Center includes a licensed clinical social worker, a licensed marriage and family therapist, nurse practitioners, and a consulting psychiatrist. Relative to other facilities in the state, Crossroads is one of just 182 (13.9 percent) that’s accredited by the Joint Commission.

Crossroads Recovery Center can accommodate up to six clients at a time in shared rooms. Amenities of the home include a communal area with a flat-screen TV, a kitchen with dining room, an outdoor pool, and a sun room. A private chef caters all meals on-site.
