Rehabs 360 Guide

One of half a dozen facilities operated by Sandstone Care throughout the state of Colorado, Cascade Canyon is a residential trauma-informed treatment program for teens facing substance and co-occurring mental health issues. The facility is set in a beautiful mountain range, just twenty minutes west of Colorado Springs, and provides day treatment (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) levels of care as well.

All teens begin the treatment process by meeting with one of the center’s licensed clinicians for a 90-miunte assessment. Following this assessment, clients and their assigned clinicians work together in developing a treatment plan specially tailored to meet their specific needs.

Some teens may get the most from beginning their recovery process from the structure and support of a residential setting. Others may not require an around-the-clock environment to heal and may therefore be recommended for either PHP or IOP care. While the PHP track consists of 35 or more hours of programming a week for as many as 30 days, the more flexibly scheduled IOP meets for 17 to 20 hours a week for two to three months.

As treatment follows an evidence-based curriculum built around individual and group therapy, teens can expect to see a range of practices and therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness. In addition to these, the facility provides academic and vocational support as well as family education sessions. It is among the only 36 percent of facilities with dedicated adolescent services.

Cascade Canyon is led by a medical doctor and a licensed professional counselor who collectively have nearly four decades of experience working with teens and young adults facing psychiatric challenges. House managers are available at any time, per the program’s website. It is among the only 10 of Joint Commission accredited Colorado facilities

The two-story residential center is set across from a beautiful mountain range, presumably where teens are encouraged to take walks and hikes. Teens also benefit from art therapy, yoga, and other physical activities.
