Stout Street Foundation, which includes confrontation as part of its treatment model, provides both a 28-day residential treatment program and a much more intensive, structured one that takes two to three years to complete. No phone calls, mail or adult visits are permitted for the first 90 days of treatment. After patients have completed 30 days, their children are permitted to visit one day per month.

For over 40 years, Stout Street Foundation (SSF) has treated thousands of people and continues to treat approximately 300 individuals each year. Located in Commerce City, Colo., the facility is host to both short- and long-term residential treatment for individuals struggling with substance misuse. SSF is a nonprofit organization, which constitute 43.6 percent of rehabs in Colorado.


The short-term recovery program lasts 14-30 days, and utilizes a cognitive-behavioral approach to psychotherapy through both one-on-one sessions and group therapy. The long-term treatment program is open to individuals for as long as they need, lasting at most up to three years. According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 6.8 percent of rehabs in Colorado offer a short-term residential treatment program, while 10.8 percent offer a long-term residential program.

The long-term program utilized many different kinds therapies, such as individual, group, and family therapy, as well as evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). It also involves vocational training, a service offered by 34.9 percent of rehabs in Colorado. Additional programming of long-term treatment at SSF includes 12-step fellowship, support from professionals and peers, and addressing co-occurring conditions.

Photos on the organizations website revealed a small garden, swimming pool, and a shared room. Aside from a ten-minute phone call, residents are not permitted to receive calls, mail, or visitation during the first 90 days. After one month, children can visit their parents. To date, the five individuals polled on the matter by Rehabs.com appreciated the facility's upkeep and exercise options.

When asked if they would recommend Stout Street Foundation, the two respondents polled on this metric both gave ratings of five out of fives stars. The facility's cleanliness, affordability, and connectivity, also all received high marks.

In general, the program's vocational aspect earned praise. In a representative review, Alum M.M. wrote, "Stout Street helped me address the issues that caused my use and develop healthy habits to give me a solid foundation for recovery. I would recommend the program and refer regularly from the agency I work at currently."

Reviews on third-party sites add further positive responses. On Google, 42 reviewers to date gave the facility an average rating of 4.2 out of five stars.[1] In a representative review, LeAnne wrote, “This place helped me save my life...I was looking at a 4yr - 12yr prison sentence after 12yrs of addiction...Yes, it confronts the crap out of you & it's not for everyone, but I was determined to grab onto sobriety with both hands.” On the facility's Facebook page, which staff can manage, 71 individuals contributed to an average rating of 4.8 out of five stars.[2]


Reviews from five loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com to date were positive. Reviewers praised SSF overall, giving high ratings of four and five out of five stars for the staff's level of training and experience, affordability, accommodations, and counseling options. When asked if they would recommend the facility, both loved ones polled on this metric to date offered perfect ratings of five out of five stars.

One anonymous loved one wrote "Hard to get into" when questioned about the facility's weaknesses. However, she also wrote in representative commentary that the program "Helped my niece when other facilities could not."


Stout Street doesn’t list costs online, but all three individuals polled by Rehabs.com on affordability gave perfect five-star ratings. Its website does note that many types of insurance are accepted.
