Located in Denver, Colo., Sandstone Care is a drug and alcohol treatment center for teens and young adults. Treatment also is available for co-occurring disorders. The Denver center offers a continuum of services, including a partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), and therapeutic sober living.

Medically supervised detox and inpatient treatment is available at the organization’s Detox Center in Colorado Springs. Within the state, Sandstone Care Denver is among 36 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities with special programs for adolescents and among 40.2 percent with programs for young adults. It also is among 58 percent with tailored programs for clients with co-occurring disorders.

When clients enter Sandstone Care, they undergo a thorough evaluation to determine the best course of treatment. Based on the results of the assessment, an individualized plan is created to best address client needs.

Treatment is based on evidence-based practices and includes individual, group, and family therapy, as well as educational workshops about addiction. Clients also participate in weekly community-based activities in the local Denver area. In addition, they receive academic and vocational support to help create a healthy and productive lifestyle after completing treatment, which may include tutoring, job coaching, and life skills training.

The PHP lasts from five to 30 days and includes more than 35 hours of programming per week with experiential activities and time at the gym. Clients live at home or at a sober living facility. The IOP lasts from 60 to 90 days and consists of about 16 hours per week of treatment programming.

The sober living program lasts 90 to 180 days. Technically called an Extended Care Treatment Program, it is intended to provide long-term treatment to individuals who have already undergone more intensive inpatient treatment or a detox program. All programs involve the family in the treatment process. Families participate in weekly group family sessions and support groups to build a strong family system as an asset for recovery.

Sandstone Care is one of 37 substance abuse treatment facilities in the state accredited by the Joint Commission. The treatment team includes doctors, nurses, psychologists, licensed therapists, and other behavioral health professionals.
