Westport house was more than responsive to the immediate needs of our son. They played a key role in helping our son regain his overall health. He is now a productive person and we see the loving child we have not seen in more than two years. We will be forever grateful to Westport House for everything they did to save our child.
Strengths: Updated rooms, dining hall, common areas; Relaxed, pleasant surroundings free from outside distractions; extended care includes employment in facility-run restaurant. Weaknesses: Treatment of co-occuring conditions; extended care program does not include comprehensive transition plan for after care. Our 25 year old son was admitted twice to Mountainside's 30 day in-patient program. Therapist are well trained, caring, and connected to clients. Second stay included 3 months at Mountainside's E-Care program. Facility is stellar, unique opportunity to work (serving, prep work, bussing, etc.) at Mountainside's own restaurant a few miles away (transportation provided). But when time came to transition out of E-Care, there was no specific plan provided, one thing led to another, and our son is currently being treated in another facility.
My 23 year old son is a graduate of Turning Point and 3 years sober. After three different 30 day rehab stays and subsequent relapses we realized it was going to take more for our son to maintain his sobriety. Luckily we were referred to Turning Point. The Turning Point staff mentored and guided our son and gave our family a sense that it could be done and, more importantly, he could do it. The communication was open and honest and there was always easy access to someone when questions arose. The way the program is structured into phases lends itself for slowly raising self esteem which is often so lacking in these young men. The people who work at Turning Point are real life people with real life experiences making a difference to so many young men. The camaraderie at Turning Point is inspiring, my son remains close friends with many of the guys he meet during his year at Turning Point. My son is now helping other people struggling with addiction and we could not be more proud of the person he has become. We owe so much to Turning Point and their vision and insight into how to effectively deal with addiction, they taught our son how to live a sober, productive and happy life while still having fun. We couldn’t ask for more!
