  • Holistic Therapy

Facilities that offer “holistic therapy” see and treat patients in the context of their entire lives and health status. They treat the “whole person,” not just the addiction.
  • Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

Patients who undergo intensive outpatient treatment continue to live at home and sometimes go to school or work while participating in a highly structured treatment protocol that is focused on ending substance abuse. Programs vary in terms of how much treatment patients receive, how often and for how long. Some facilities design individualized intensive outpatient treatment programs.

Rehabs 360 Guide

Based in the coastal city of Boynton Beach, Fla., Lighthouse Recovery Institute provides outpatient treatment and sober living services to adults struggling with substance use disorder. The rehab also offers treatment for clients with co-occurring disorders, which is a specialty offered by half of all treatment facilities in the country.

The gender-specific partial hospitalization program (PHP), which is a treatment level available in 14 percent of facilities nationwide, offers the most structured and intensive option. Clients spend at least 25 hours of week participating in activities such as individual counseling, group therapy, family therapy, 12-step work, and relapse prevention training.

Offered by 46 percent of U.S. treatment facilities, the intensive outpatient program (IOP) is more flexible than the PHP, allowing clients to attend school or work while receiving care.
And standard outpatient treatment, which is less time intensive than IOP, is typically the final stage of treatment before a client is discharged. It consists of one group and one individual counseling session per week.

According to the center’s website, the staff consists of doctors, psychiatrists, addictionologists, licensed therapists, mental health technicians, and other treatment specialists. The facility has a staff-to-client ratio of 1:3.

The center’s 28-bed, apartment-style sober living accommodations have 24-hour staff supervision and are within walking distance of the treatment center.

The majority of loved ones polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing (nine out of 10) gave Lighthouse Recovery Institute positive feedback. They indicated that the rehab was excellent at involving family in the treatment process and keeping them up to date about their loved one's care. In a representative review, A.H. wrote: "Really enjoyed working with the counselor and having updates weekly. The communication was unlike any prior treatment episode, they even made a referral to a private therapist for after treatment for my family."

To date, three of the four staff members polled by Rehabs.com offered positive opinions of the facility. In a representative review, Henry described the rehab as "patient centered" and wrote: "It was refreshing to see a program develop that was about the underlying problems associated with addiction."

Fees start at $20,000 for 30 days and $40,000 for 90 days. The day rate is $1,000. Multiple insurance plans, including those from Aetna, Cigna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, are accepted, and reduced financing is available for people that qualify.
