I am writing this letter at the end of a 6.5 month journey. The last leg of this was here at River Oaks. I was placed by the VA in a homeless shelter by error after 3 months of sobriety in 2 other treatment centers. Jeff spoke with me and was empathic to my situation just by judging the desperation in my voice and got me out of that unsafe environment. Even with clean time under my belt I still needed more healing, direction and I remained teachable. They say 30 is not enough time. For an addict like myself I knew I needed as much as I could get. After 5.5 months of sobriety Christine Hernando and I put my mental state in a category that had been misdiagnosed for many years. She gave me the discernment to separate the similarities between mind and spirit. After all of these years I realized I didn't have to press so hard to figure everything out and just let things be just as they are. I was double teamed with her and Andrea approaching my spiritual side and by the Grace of God concentrated on the same subject by no coincidence. I was able to give back to River Oaks by becoming a peer leader and my GOD! addicts will work your last nerve. So big hats off to all those in this field here and worldwide in whatever capacity they serve. This place has changed the life a 52 year old man who has been battling for years. My only words of advice would be. Do not let simple tasks of medication distribution, bad TA's in the group in a position of power tarnish and define this place. These issues could be alleviated by adopting other methods used by the VA hospitals with low cost yet affective. I will always be thankful for landing here with AAC River Oaks and it's staff.
To whom it may concern, SJRP changed my life with the infinite amount of love and patience they offered to me. The variety of food and activities made me excited for each day that came along. Activities included the gym, equine therapy, horse back riding, NIT/VAT therapy ( which is amazing!!!), painting and reading, meditation, group and one on one therapy sessions. Extra activities include park excursions, kayaking, visiting springs, and the beach. All the staff ranging from the Director of Operations down to the Custodians are there to provide tender loving care for the betterment of each client. I speak from personal experience and this is why I am so grateful for the opportunity to attend Saint Johns Recovery Place.
By the best inpatient treatment facility in Florida.
