    These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

    Dr. Jeffrey Huttman has been practicing in the field of substance abuse and mental health for over twenty years and is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Florida. Dr. Huttman began his academic pursuits in psychology at Temple University. After earning his Master’s of Arts degree in General Psychology from Adelphi University he went on to receive a second master’s degree and his Ph.d. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology.

    Dr. Fraser has focused her career on the clinical and scientific study of human behavior. Located in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Evolutions Treatment Center is an independently owned and operated, luxury rehab center for adults seeking treatment for drug and alcohol addiction and co-occurring disorders. Day and evening intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are available, as well as a 30-day residential program. It is one of the 139 (20.8 percent) long-term treatment facilities in Florida. Although Evolutions does not offer detox services on-site, it does partner with and refers clients to nearby providers.


Following physical and psychological evaluations, each client receives recommendations for a personalized plan of treatment. It is one of the 392 (58.7 percent) Florida treatment facilities that conduct comprehensive mental health assessments. The facility emphasizes the importance of quality sleep for all clients throughout recovery.

Available individual and group psychotherapeutic and holistic treatment practices include dialectical behavior therapy, family therapy, as well as equine canine, art therapies. In addition, the facility utilizes medication-assisted treatments (MAT) to help minimize cravings and curb cravings. Only 5.1 percent of Florida’s facilities offer MAT options.

Spiritual counseling, meditation, nutritional counseling, yoga, tai chi, acupuncture, massage therapy, and physical fitness training may also be incorporated into programming. Evolutions does not directly incorporate a 12-step program, but clients are encouraged to pursue a 12-step approach if desired.

For clients who have received a dual diagnosis of addiction and a co-occurring mental health disorder, such as severe depression and anxiety, Evolutions integrates transcranial magnetic stimulation, a cutting edge technology used to stimulate brain patterns that affect mood.

Upon completion of the primary 30-day residence, clients may choose to attend an additional 30 days or more of intensive outpatient treatment, which involves a minimum of three sessions per week and includes supportive housing for up to a year.


Founded by physicians and clinicians specializing in addiction medicine, psychiatry, and psychology, Evolutions employs doctors, nurses, licensed therapists, and certified drug and alcohol counselors. The facility maintains a staff-to-client ratio of 2:1. It is one of the 203 (30.4 percent) facilities in Florida accredited by the Joint Commission.


The facility operates high-end, comfortable residences that can accommodate up to 55 clients. Spacious, shared bedrooms include ensuite bathrooms, large televisions, and high-quality furniture. A lighted swimming pool, basketball courts, outdoor grilling stations, and a fitness center are all on-site. Along with providing cooking classes, a staff nutritionist helps clients design individualized meal plans that address specific dietary needs such as kosher foods and preparation.


At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com has received survey responses from 10 former clients of Evolutions Treatment Center, and general feedback from an additional 10. With a few moderate exceptions, all alumni provided positive feedback about their experiences. "Evolutions saved my life. It's not a flop rehab; it's a real place of recovery. I have been sober since my stay there," one alum wrote.

In otherwise positive reviews, a few areas for improvement were noted, including poor communication between residential and treatment staff and the need for more one-on-one time with counselors. Commonly cited strengths included personalized treatment, the program’s small population, and the overall quality of accommodations. Nearly all characterized the staff as caring and the environment as supportive.

[4] On Google, alum S.E. wrote: “The place is beautiful and the food is out of this world. All of the staff are wonderful and very professional.”


The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com agreed with alumni review trends about Evolutions Treatment Center, rating all features either four or five out of five stars and providing positive feedback about the experienced staff, individualized treatment, and “clean and comfortable” facility.


In keeping with other sources of feedback, the one staff member who responded to a Rehabs.com survey about Evolutions Treatment Center rated all metrics measured four or five out of five stars except the centrality of 12-step and faith-based practices of the program.
