Facility Highlights

  • Massage
  • Experiential Therapies
  • On-Site Psychiatric & Physician Care

  • Aftercare Support

Addiction recovery does not end with discharge after completing a rehab program. Facilities that offer aftercare planning and/or support work with patients to ensure sustainable recovery by helping to plan and make arrangements for transitional or sober living, help with housing, vocational counseling, etc.
  • Medical Detoxification

Drugs and alcohol have widespread effects throughout your body, including but not limited to the addiction and/or physical/psychological dependence that develops with substance abuse over time. Many organ systems are affected by addiction and will react to withdrawal. The term “medical detoxification” means that there is a trained and licensed medical professional onsite to monitor your vital signs and protect your physical and emotional health as your body goes through withdrawal.

Rehabs 360 Guide

A small and intimate facility in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., New River Wellness Center offers a variety of gender-specific services for men and women struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The facility’s programs range from early intervention assistance to outpatient services and aftercare. Medically-assisted detoxification is available on-site.

New River Wellness Center takes a strength-based, holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally diverse approach to treatment, according to its website. It also adopts the 12-Steps and encourages clients to work through the steps with a sponsor. Programs for men and women are completely separate with men focusing on anger management and other outward expressions of denial while women focus on dealing with more inward feelings of guilt and shame.

Upon entering New River Wellness Center, both men and women receive a full psychiatric evaluation. If necessary, the on-site psychiatrists may recommend medication-assisted therapy via naltrexone, an anti-craving agent for opioids or alcohol.

There are three key programs at the facility: a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and an outpatient program (OP). Clients of the PHP and IOP can reside at the facility’s sober living residences while they receive treatment, and the typically length of stay ranges from 30 to 45 days.

The main modalities of treatment, regardless of the program, include relapse prevention coaching, life skills training, group, family, and individual therapy, as well as yoga, acupuncture, and expressive arts therapies. For dual diagnosis treatment, the facility uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational enhancement therapy (MET), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).

After treatment, the facility encourages clients to participate in its alumni program and act as mentors for those still going through treatment.

The facility employs psychiatrists and master’s-level clinical therapists, as well as expressive arts therapists, acupuncturists, and dieticians, according to the center’s website.

The center’s website notes the sober living residences are located on marina-front property, and the facility has a pool, a private movie theatre, and a fitness center. Clients go grocery shopping and are expected to cook for themselves under the guidance of a nutritional counselor, as well as perform other chores like laundry.

The three alumni polled by Rehabs.com at time of writing provided very positive feedback. The alumni directed high praise towards the staff. “Very caring staff that go above and beyond for patients,” Bridget wrote. “Small groups sizes and great counselors and therapists!”

Alum Ashley gave mostly four- and five- out of five stars for the 15 different aspects of the program, including the program’s treatment effectiveness, and its use of the 12-Step model. She gave three stars for the facility’s counseling options and its exercise and leisure opportunities.

“New River has saved my life and I can’t thank them enough,” alum Linda wrote. “I don’t need that pill today or a drink because I love myself. Thank You New River Wellness Center for giving me my life back.”

Additional ratings on secondary review sites were also positive. Of the 16 people who left reviews on the center’s Facebook page, which it has the ability to manage, 14 people provided five out of five stars.[1] To date, the center has an average 4.6-star rating on Facebook.

Alumni on Facebook also praised the staff and commented on their sobriety. “Best decision of my life,” Kelcie wrote in a representative review. “Wonderful staff, great therapy...Thank you New River Wellness; if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t have gotten clean.”

Everyone here is extremely helpful and the staff truly cares about helping out everyone on their journey. My experience has been nothing but positive."

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s affiliated loved ones, but Matty, a parent of a former client, fully endorsed the facility in a Google review. Giving five stars, we wrote: “Knowing that the staff cares on a different level than other places, the facility is clean and comfortable and that our children are safe is something that is unmeasurable,” he wrote. A mother on Facebook, Harriette, echoed this sentiment.
