Rehabs 360 Guide

Located two miles from the beach, amid the canals of Forth Lauderdale, the Core Centers provides a full spectrum of treatment programs for adult men and women who are struggling with substance use disorder and dual diagnoses. Program offerings include detox, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) with sober-living facilities, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), standard outpatient care, and an aftercare program. Treatment is offered on the Florida Model, meaning that programming and living accommodations are offered from separate locations.

The Core Centers is among the 52.7 percent of rehabs in the recovery hotspot of Florida that operate as private, for-profit enterprises.

All clients receive an evaluation that's used to identify any co-occurring mental health disorders and to enable the medical and clinical directors to develop a personalized treatment plan.

The Core Centers uses the 12-Steps or alternatives such as SMART Recovery, in a holistic program that includes yoga and fitness training alongside traditional counseling in individual, group, and family settings.

Clients also learn skills for preventing relapse, coping with stress, and managing anger, as well as more practical life skills such as financial responsibility, self-care, and household chores. When appropriate, clients also receive psychiatric services for co-occurring conditions, medication management, and monitoring services.

The center provides little information about its detox program. In the PHP, a program type offered at 24.6 percent of Florida facilities, client receive 30 hours of individual and group therapy through the weekdays, plus an extra hour on weekends.

Clients in the IOP, offered at 43 percent of Florida facilities, attend group therapy for two or three three-hour sessions per week, depending on their level of need, plus an hour of individual therapy. The intensity of treatment tapers down through to standard outpatient care.

Aftercare may consist of continuing therapy sessions or referrals to sober-living facilities, plus an opportunity to join an alumni program that meets in person and online.

The Core Centers' website boasts a 2:1 staff-to-client ratio, but does not specify any staff credentials. Both of the individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the staff's level of training and experience gave it a one out of five-star rating.

Clients live in semi-private bedrooms in one of three housing facilities, with full kitchens, flat-screen TVs, and cable. Meals are catered five days per week, and the center organizes weekend trips. The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center's exercise and leisure offerings gave a one-star rating and a three-star rating for the survey metric.

The over a dozen alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date gave mixed feedback. Several reviewers noted that they had earlier attempted to recover elsewhere and had a much more positive experience at the Core Centers, thanks to the center's caring staff, comfortable amenities, and helpful programming. In a representative review, alum Michael wrote: "I have litterally called these therapists at all hours of the night and they helped me get through tough times."

However, numerous alumni reported very negative experiences, repeatedly complaining that they felt the center was more interested in insurance money than in helping them and that staff seemed underqualified. "Most of the people there are young kids who are addicted to heroin and this center is absolutely failing every single one of them," N.W. wrote in a representative review.

On secondary sites, the Core Centers has mostly positive feedback with some notes of strong complaint, with average ratings of 4.3 out of five stars based on 25 reviews on Google, 4.7 stars based on 55 reviews on Facebook, where the center may manage its own page, and three out of five stars based on four reviews on Yelp.[1] [2] [3]

Like alumni polled by Rehabs.com, many spoke highly of the center's staff and compared the Core Centers favorably to other treatment centers they had attended. "This place is amazing. The Clinical team is the most amazing caring team compared to any treatment center I've been to," Hayden wrote in a representative comment on Yelp.

However, there are also several strong complaints, especially in terms of billing and financial considerations. "My opinion this place only cares about billing insurance," Ryan wrote in a typical comment on Yelp.

All three loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date gave very negative feedback. Loved one P.M.R. complained about dishonest staff, while loved one D.L. wrote: "My brother was at the Core Center three times in the last two months. He has emerged twice as sick as before he went there," and N.F. added: "Lack of supervision, co-ed dorms ... Disregard for the patients needs. Basically it appears to be one big party!"

According to its website, the Core Centers accepts all major insurances. The two individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center's affordability gave it a one-star rating and a two-star rating.
