  • Medical Detoxification

Drugs and alcohol have widespread effects throughout your body, including but not limited to the addiction and/or physical/psychological dependence that develops with substance abuse over time. Many organ systems are affected by addiction and will react to withdrawal. The term “medical detoxification” means that there is a trained and licensed medical professional onsite to monitor your vital signs and protect your physical and emotional health as your body goes through withdrawal.
  • Individual Therapy

This term describes one-on-one therapy, in which a patient and trained counselor, social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist meets privately with a patient to discuss challenges related to lifestyle, work, family and romantic relationships that may have contributed to the development of an addiction.

As Admissions Director for Gulf Breeze Recovery, I am privileged to assist families and to witness the transformation in our guests. I am particularly passionate about my role here because I went through the THRIVE® program at Gulf Breeze myself. The principles behind our program have not only helped me achieve sobriety, they have also allowed me to view all aspects of my life from a place of peace and contentment. This understanding is accessible to every single guest that walks through our doors! "

I made a decision to build a treatment facility I could be proud to own and worked hard to move the idea from a concept to a reality. First, I acquired my master’s degree in health care administration emphasizing residential substance abuse treatment. I then worked with a team of doctors, psychologists, licensed mental health counselors and former clients to create it. Our top priority when developing our program and treatment center was the "guest." We focused on giving each guest the best possible chance of recovery.

Rehabs 360 Guide

Set in a waterfront building on Florida’s Gulf Coast, Gulf Breeze Recovery offers long-term, residential treatment for adults struggling with substance abuse. The upscale facility is part of the 10.9 percent of Florida facilities that offer residential detox on-site.

According to its website, Gulf Breeze Recovery is a holistic, non-12-step facility, and programming is designed for individuals who continually struggle with relapse. Residents typically stay eight weeks, though length of stay varies depending upon the individual needs of each client.

The facility calls its program "THRIVE,” the aim of which is not to delve into the past, but rather amend present action. The program starts by tackling denial and resistance before residents focus on their physical health, embarking on an individualized fitness plan complemented by spa therapies.

Neo-cognitive therapy in three stages begins with developmental activities, then small group activities, and finally, intensive one-on-one counseling. One alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing reported receiving six to seven hours of group therapy a day. The facility also offers neurofeedback.

Gulf Breeze Recovery also offers comprehensive aftercare options, which include the continuation of one-on-one counseling services (either in person or online), weekly online group meetings facilitated by a therapist, and a closed online forum for all alumni.

The staff at Gulf Breeze Recovery includes a director of operations, an admissions coordinator, a clinical director, a psychiatrist, and two full-time executive chefs. The facility offers a staff-to-client ratio of 2:1 and is among the 30.4 percent of Florida facilities accredited by the Joint Commission. To date, the 12 individuals polled by Rehabs.com polled on the matter praise the aptitude of staff.

Staff Experience and Training: 4.4/5

Gulf Breeze offers 26 beds in a newly renovated, two-story home that's adjacent to the facility’s spa. The upstairs includes a modest workout room with ocean views. Clients stay mostly in private rooms, and each room offers a flat-screen TV with cable. Other amenities include an outdoor pool and a private beach area. To date, the 11 individuals polled by Rehabs.com on the upkeep of the facilities appreciated their quality.

Cleanliness: 4.7/5

Reviews from more than a dozen alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com to date were highly positive. Several former clients credited the facility with saving their lives and praised it for its kind and compassionate staff, its effective programming, and the fact that it took a non-12-step approach to addiction treatment.

The six individuals who responded when asked if they would recommend the facility all gave five out of five star ratings. “Gulf Breeze was an incredible place,” wrote C.D. in a representative review. “There isn't one person on that staff who isn't kind, caring and, in some cases, entertaining... This isn't a 12-step program, thankfully. The approach is holistic, yet practical.” The eight alumni polled on the specific metrics also praised the facility's holistic offerings and extracurricular activities.

Exercise and Leisure: 4.6/5
Holistic Offerings: 4.3/5

Two of the three loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing also gave the facility positive reviews. A.E.K. and K.W. both gave the facility mostly five out of five stars across 15 different evaluated metrics, including its family participation, its staff support, its counseling options, its holistic activities, its cleanliness, and its pricing.

But K.L.D., whose son attended Gulf Breeze, gave the rehab mixed feedback. The parent felt that although the staff was caring, the counselors were helpful, and that the programming was sound, they also noted that some of the facility’s marketing was misleading. “The pictures led me to believe it was right on the beach...the truth is that there is a small piece of sand that overlooks the water, but it is not really a beach,” they wrote.

The two staffers polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing both gave Gulf Breeze highly positive reviews, describing it as an “excellent” and “innovative” program. One staff member also awarded perfect five-star ratings for the experience of the clinical staff, the loyalty of the staff, and protocol training.

Fees start at $35,000 for 56 days. Gulf Breeze accepts private pay and offers financing via a third-party lending program. The facility accepts insurance, but clients receive reimbursement after paying up front. To date, the seven individuals polled by Rehabs.com on the matter generally approved of the facility's cost.

Affordability: 3.9/5
