  • Dual-Diagnosis Treatment

Specialization

  • Detox

Though not all rehab facilities offer “medical detoxification,” all people with an addiction to drugs or alcohol will experience intense physical and emotional changes and discomfort as their bodies react to withdrawal of the addictive substance. Many people use the term “detox” to refer to the period of time (ranging from a few days to a week) when the body is reacting to an addict’s decision to stop using.
  • Creative Arts Therapy

Writing, making art or engaging in theater can be deeply therapeutic for people working to recover from addiction. Many facilities offer one or several forms of creative arts therapy as a way to help patients learn to express their feelings in productive ways.

ABOUT STEPPING STONE CENTER FOR RECOVERY

Located in the beach town of Jacksonville, Fla., Stepping Stone Center for Recovery offers residential substance abuse treatment for adult men and women. The facility is equipped to treat co-occurring mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety, and a detox unit is located on-site. It is one of the 73 (10.9 percent) detox facilities in Florida. Length of stay varies according to each client's needs.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Stepping Stone takes a holistic and individualized approach to treatment and recovery. Upon admission, clients undergo a comprehensive assessment that includes a medical and psychiatric exam. Within the state, 58.7 percent of facilities include psychiatric evaluations in their treatment plans. Based on the assessment findings, a customized treatment plan is created and implemented.

Those who require detox services begin their treatment with medically monitored and assisted detox. Once stabilized, clients may be placed in inpatient treatment, partial hospitalization program (PHP), or intensive outpatient treatment (IOP).

Clients enrolled in inpatient treatment have access to 24-hour medical care and case management. Treatment combines evidence-based modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with individual therapy, group therapy, family sessions, 12-step work, health education, medication management, art and music therapy, and meditation. Recreational activities include yoga and fitness classes.

Partial hospitalization programs and intensive outpatient treatment include similar modalities, but are less clinically intensive and incorporate off-site activities and meetings. Additionally, there is a greater focus on relapse prevention, personal responsibility, and character development.

Clients may participate in aftercare programming, including continuance of previous treatments along with vocational counseling, sober living housing, and other treatments.
