  • 12-Step

The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.
  • Dual Diagnosis/ Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

Located five miles from Florida’s South Palm Beach, The Treatment Center provides residential and outpatient-based substance use treatment for adults, including individuals with co-occurring mental health disorders. Medically managed, 24-hour supervised detox services are also available on-site.

Each client receives an individualized treatment plan upon admission. The residential program can vary in length, but typically lasts 35 days. Treatment combines 12-step methodology with evidence-based practices and includes one-on-one counseling and group therapy, as well as holistic therapies and recreational activities such as yoga, massage, Tai Chi, volleyball, art/music therapy, and meditation.

The facility offers a specialized faith-based track for those seeking a Christian recovery, which includes pastoral counseling, prayer, Bible study, Christ-centered 12-step meetings, and worship services.

There also is a court liaison program for clients with legal issues, as well as a two-day intensive family workshop. Clients receive comprehensive aftercare plans, which may include transitioning into the facility’s intensive outpatient program (IOP), partial hospitalization program (PHP), or the rehab’s other a la carte outpatient program (OP) offerings.

With a staff-to-client ratio of 2:1, the facility offers highly personalized attention. The treatment team includes medical doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, and nurses. The seven individuals polled on the specific survey metric praised the staff's experience and training.

Four alumni used the term “life saving” in describing The Treatment Center, such as Chris, who wrote: “This facility saved my life.” Bill M. echoed that sentiment and added: “These people are absolute saints. They saved my life and soothed my soul in ways I could never imagine before my 35 day stay there.” S.M. wrote: “The program and staff make it possible to get sober and find a new life in recovery.”

The two less satisfied former clients criticized the facility for what they describe is its focus on money. And Boris wrote that although the accommodations were nice, the discharge process was difficult.
