Tranquil Shores, located in Madeira Beach, Fla., offers residential, outpatient, and detoxification services to adults seeking treatment for substance abuse. A high-end facility, Tranquil Shores is one of 78 (11.7 percent) treatment facilities in Florida to provide residential-based detox facilities. The facility serves the greater Tampa area, including Bradenton, Clearwater, Sarasota, and St. Petersburg. The facility is also capable of treating individuals struggling with a dual diagnosis.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To be admitted, clients may either submit an inquiry form via the Tranquil Shores website or call the facility by phone. Participants in need of detoxification may receive medication at the facility under the supervision of medical professionals. Most clients remain in residential treatment for 90 days, making it one of the 139 (20.8 percent) long-term residential facilities in Florida. Outpatient treatment plans are also available, offering between one and 15 hours of treatment per week.
Tranquil Shores’ treatment program follows the Integrative Recovery Model (IRM). The rehabilitation program at Tranquil Shores centers around individual and group therapy. Therapy group topics include gender-specific issues, spirituality, alternative healing, expressive art, balanced living, and experiential focus areas. Families are also included in the treatment program through family therapy.
In addition to traditional approaches, Tranquil Shores also offers a range of unique treatments and therapies, including acupuncture, massage therapy, drum therapy, meditation, yoga, Kai Chi Do, and Qigong. Acupuncture is only incorporated at 76 (11.4 percent) of treatment facilities in Florida.
Aftercare is available upon completion of treatment, and program alumni are eligible to receive free group therapy after leaving Tranquil Shores. Alumni participate in regular meetings, workshops, and an annual alumni reunion. Clients may also receive “e-therapy” via teleconference from their counselor after being discharged.
The treatment team at Tranquil Shores includes a medical doctor, psychiatrists, registered nurses, and licensed therapists. According to the facility, Tranquil Shores's staff-to-client ratio is 1:4. The facility is also among the 30.4 percent of facilities in Florida accredited by the Joint Commission.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Tranquil Shores offers 24 beds for male and female clients in luxurious, beachfront setting. Each client enjoys their own private residence with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living area. The campus is equipped with beach access, a pool, basketball hoops, tennis courts, a gym, and a group fitness room.

The two alumni polled on additional metrics indicated that they would strongly recommend Tranquil Shores to a friend or loved one seeking treatment. The anonymous clients also gave the facility five out of five stars for holistic options and facility cleanliness, as well as four and five stars for exercise options. Both reviewers also gave five stars for the facility's dual diagnosis treatment and the staff's level of experienced and training.
“This is an amazing place. I can't imagine have made the recovery that i have at any other facility. The staff is made up of caring and compassionate professionals,” one alum wrote. Another alum added: "The whole reason I chose Tranquil Shores was because of the staff. I knew I would not have found a more professional group of people that truly care."
On Facebook, where the facility may manage its page, Tranquil Shores has an average rating of 4.1 out of five stars from 18 reviews to date. Reviewers indicated that the facility itself was “beautiful” on a “relaxing beach community.” Others wrote how it saved their lives.
