Located in sunny Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Sunspire Health Recovery Road offers Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient programs for adult men struggling with substance use disorder. Support is also available to address co-occurring process addictions, including internet and video game addiction.
Recovery Road takes pride in its clinical and holistic programming based in a community atmosphere. Detoxification services are not available on-site, but staff work closely with local centers to coordinate transition. Sunspire Health also operates a women's treatment center in Tampa, Hyde Park, which provides detox. Sunspire Health Texas offers a professionals track, and additional centers include ones in South Carolina, Oregon, Massachusetts, Illinois, and Southern California.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
A typical stay at Sunspire Health Recovery Road is 30 days and follows a structured, seven-day weekly schedule. Most days begin with meditation and go on to incorporate shared meals, multiple group therapy sessions, individual counseling, recreational and adventure therapy, and introductions to an array of 12-step and other support groups. Some clients remain for up to 90 days.
Several therapeutic modalities are used, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and various trauma-oriented practices. Group sessions address topics specific to men's experiences, family dynamics, anger management, the biological nature of addiction, and healthy relationship, coping, and life skills.
Recovery Road is equipped to help residents build a spiritual or religious component into their treatment, though this choice is left to the individual. Residents are encouraged to participate in such holistic therapies as acupuncture, chiropractic, and massage.
IOP is the last step of care at Recovery Road. Patients are given more independence at the facility as they begin to readjust themselves to everyday life while still receiving support and care based upon their individual needs. Housing is available to patients who participate in IOP.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
In addition to a board-certified psychiatrist, master's level therapists, and nurses, Sunspire Health Recovery Road employs a gambling counselor and certified family mediator. The treatment team also includes a nutritionist and spiritual counselor.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The residential program at Recovery Road functions as a partial hospitalization program (PHP) with supportive housing. According to the Sunspire Health website, the center accommodates up to 18 full-time clients, with additional space for individuals enrolled in the IOP.
Residents live in apartments located five minutes from the ocean in colorful, single-story buildings surrounded by palm trees. With nutritional guidance from staff, clients cook at home. They have access to a local gym, with transportation provided. Some group therapy and educational sessions are held at the beach or a local park.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Of the 15 former clients to date who have submitted reviews to Rehabs.com, all but two would enthusiastically recommend Sunspire Health Recovery Road. More than 80% rated the effectiveness of treatment a maximum five out of five stars.
Staff received high praise, described by alumni as attentive and helpful, addressing individual needs. Alumni awarded 4.8 stars on average for the staff's level of training and experience. Metrics measuring various elements of treatment all revealed strong satisfaction, including a 4.3-star average for holistic therapy offerings. The lowest overall rating received, for family participation, was nevertheless above four stars, from 12 individuals polled. Alumni also agreed that 12-step concepts were central to Recovery Road's programming.
Likewise, each metric measuring accommodations received a rating averaging more than 4.5 stars, including meals and nutrition and exercise and leisure activities. Feedback on the facility's cleanliness and upkeep was especially favorable.
No criticisms were repeated across alumni reviews. Some areas noted for improvement included staff communication and under-staffing, limited counseling and activity options, and consistency in daily structure.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
Feedback from two loved ones was more mixed. The wife of one alum reported that the treatment received didn't transfer to living in recovery in the "real world." A second loved one rated treatment effectiveness four stars, but expressed concern with the program's cost. They agreed with alumni that Recovery Road did a good job "catering" to individual clients.
FINANCING
While Sunspire Health Recovery Road does not publish its costs, data collected by Rehabs.com indicated overall satisfaction with the affordability of treatment. Thirteen individuals polled contributed to average rating of 4.7 out of five stars.
