ABOUT WHITE SANDS TREATMENT CENTER OF TAMPA
White Sands Treatment Tampa is an all-inclusive addiction and mental health treatment center located in Plant City, Fla., just east of the metropolitan Tampa Bay area. One of just 73 (10.9 percent) detoxification programs in the state and one of 139 (20.8 percent) to offer residential treatment, the massive, 150-bed residential facility boasts an expansive curriculum of evidence-based and holistic therapies and modalities.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The treatment process at White Sands Tampa begins with a comprehensive assessment that takes into consideration a prospective client’s medical history and physical and psychiatric status. Individuals unfit for starting treatment immediately may first undergo a medically-assisted detoxification in which they’ll receive medications that help alleviate cravings and other withdrawal effects. Treatment generally lasts 30 to 90 days.
Of the various approaches, modalities, and activities incorporated here residents may see a combination of 12-step and peer support groups, daily group therapy sessions, and individual counseling with licensed therapists and counselors. The center also runs what it describes as an “extensive family therapy program” for families looking to improve their communication and understanding of the recovery process.
Seeing recovery as a holistic, full-body process, the center offers ongoing opportunity to exercise, learn about nutrition, and have fun in recreational kickball and frisbee. A plethora of alternative therapy options - including massage therapy, yoga, biofeedback (sound) therapy, acupuncture, and chiropractic treatment - add yet another level of healing to the process.
Prior to completing residential treatment, clients begin putting together their continuing care plans, which may involve sober living, active participation in local 12-step groups, and enrollment into an intensive outpatient (IOP) or traditional outpatient program. According to its website, White Sands of Tampa runs partial hospitalization (day treatment) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs in addition to its residential services.
