Drugs and alcohol have widespread effects throughout your body, including but not limited to the addiction and/or physical/psychological dependence that develops with substance abuse over time. Many organ systems are affected by addiction and will react to withdrawal. The term “medical detoxification” means that there is a trained and licensed medical professional onsite to monitor your vital signs and protect your physical and emotional health as your body goes through withdrawal.
  • Outpatient

Outpatient treatment describes all addiction treatment that is not residential. Patients live at home while undergoing rehab.

Rehabs 360 Guide

Previously known as the Darryl Strawberry Recovery Center, the Blackberry Center provides residential and outpatient treatment to individuals struggling with substance use disorder, mental health problems, or co-occurring disorders. Located in St. Cloud, Fla., the facility also provides medical detox, which is a service available in just 10.9 percent of residential treatment facilities in the state.

Treatment is 12-step based and includes individual counseling, group therapy, addiction education, relapse prevention training, and medication management. Residential clients can also engage in family counseling and recreational activities.

Outpatient options include a partial hospitalization program (PHP), which meets five days a week and a level of treatment offered by only 24.6 percent of treatment facilities in Florida. Clients also receive comprehensive discharge plans outlining suggestions for aftercare.

The treatment team includes a 24-hour nursing staff, physicians, and psychiatrists, as well as therapists, certified addiction counselors, and dietitians. The staff-to-client ratio is 1:6.

The center is a 50-bed facility with some private rooms available. Meals are provided and loved ones may visit on Sundays. The sole individual polled on the matter gave the facility a perfect five-star rating for the facility's overall upkeep and cleanliness, as well as three stars for its available exercise and leisure activities.

At the time of this writing, the majority of former clients surveyed by Rehabs.com (49 out of 59) gave the Blackberry Center positive feedback. They described the treatment as effective, the staff as helpful and compassionate, and the facility as clean and well-run. "The staff was amazing. The food here was great. The building was clean and secure. I loved this place and would recommend this to anyone in need," wrote Brittany in a representative review.

Though negative comments were in the minority, the most common complaints included misleading marketing, unprofessional staff, and a lack of one-on-one therapy.

On Google, the rehab earned an average rating of 3.5 out of five stars based on 26 reviews. Feedback from former clients was mixed — some credited the facility with saving their lives, while an equal number complained that it was ineffective and poorly run.

The majority of loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com to date (six out of nine) gave the Blackberry Center negative feedback. The chief complaints were that the rehab was disorganized and did not provide the services they claimed they would.

"Everything they promise on the phone or on the website is either an outright lie or an enormous exaggeration," Pat wrote in a representative review. "Patients will most likely not receive most or any of the care described." The three satisfied reviewers, however, all noted that their family members benefited from the program.

Treatment costs $16,800 per month, and the facility is in-network with private insurers including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, CIGNA, MultiPlan, and ValueOptions.
